I´ve been triyng to find the name of a guitarrist that i listened almost 20 years ago who played a song called carnival morning or black orpheus which style was pretty like than this fat genius. if someone knows his name, please tell me. (excuse my bad english, i´m learning it)
iv heard about 20 gazillion versions of both of those songs, so whoever you heard might be any one of those people. There's lots of them on youtube, so just look around. See if any one of them is who you're talking about. But whoever the person that made them is a mystery to me.

Hi Don...
Welcome to the jungle. We are glad you are posting music. Interesting technique. Sometimes we get so caught up in technique we forget about the music.
With respect...I think you are forgetting the "be nice" rule. But just to clarify, I had the same blind exuberance at one time. I particularly remember when I got my hand built Olson guitar some 13 years ago...you get the picture...
He's a genius! I'm not much of an acoustic music fan, but since I've been watching these videos by Don and Andy I'm completely blown away. They can't be compared because of their different style but there' only one word to describe them: A.M.A.Z.E.M.E.N.T.
I Agree with you, it is very beautiful seeing it unfold, but its not restricted to canadians!! Americans and others are also part of this newly arrived wave of musicians.
canadians like erik mongrain, antoine dufour, don ross are really teaching what music should be. A none stop reshearch of fresh new ideas that develops itself through sound and feelings not from image and ideas like the commercial crap we have been bombarbed with for the last 27 years.
my favoritest is the one what plays with his feets... or should I say - without Don we wouldn't have all the other amazing candyrat players - including Mckee, Mongrain, Dufour, Taylor and all the other fingerstyle guys who, thanks to youtube, are teaching a new generation about musical substance
ey, pouichi007... so don ross is noutdated??? whithout DON there would be no erik mongrain!! sure he is innovative, but he has yet to reach my heart with his music. I bet DON could play his music but ERIK couldn't play DON's.. Anyway, they're both great!! Long live DON and Erik
I ralize that some of you are young, but children please! Glorify the music, and honor the musicians who create it. Playing the 'My favorite is better than yours' game doesn't do anything but show childishness. If you don't like someone's music, that's o. k.; if you do that's o. k.,.
Trying to lift yourself up by insulting someone else only shows how small you feel inside.
Disagree. Erik's overrated if compared to contemporaries like Antoine Dufour or Andy McKee. Also, Don's simply got a better command/respect for melody and groove.
I've done the search, heard the music, and you are wrong. :P heh heh. He is definately good though. But there is no comparison to Don in my opinion, but then again, I am bias. He's my favorite. Thanks for introducing me to erik though.
Don Ross is a genius. Pioneer in fingerstyle guitar playing, totally unique voice and approach. That's why he is the only guy to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championships TWICE! Afraid to Dance is the bomb!
He is the king of slap harmonics at the end there, i can't wait to see him again.

Every time I see this song.
I'm pissed off by how east the actual playing is and how fucking ridiculous the slapping is to get right.
Oh, well. I guess in another couple months I'll get it.

I'm underwhelmed by Mckee. Not funky enough. Mongrain's technique is interesting though. Don is still a major pimp.
