My problem with this is that I don't think he will be able to pull off Light. I don't see him being crazy and a killer with an evil laugh. I just can't see it.

HEY, why not have the voice actor of L who brought him to life ………PLAY L, I mean it would take some makeup work, but he has close enough facial structure / features, and he actually acts like L and has some of his mannerisms in real life! You cant recreate that,

@OrcWyvern No... the character Light is not Caucasian... in the Japanese language version they call him "Raito", which is the Japanese way of saying the English word "light." He is fully Japanese but his parents gave him a name based off an English word.

I understand that they are trying to make the characters seem like the manga, but its to different kinds of art...they HAVE to change some details in order to make it a good movie, just look at what happened with the new batman films, they recreated it, imagine if the new batman still had that gray ballet-like suit instead of the armor, look at what happened with H.L´s joker...thats what they should do with the characters, choosing the actors because of how much they look like the manga...
One of the problems that the japanese live action film had was the fact that they where trying to make the characters too much like the manga, and thats just impossible...L for example, it looks very nice how he moves and acts in the anime, but when puted on live action it looks awful, one just cant buy thats the natural behavior of the character, how he walks, his posture...too exagerated (continue on the next comment)

I very recently saw 17 Again also. Efron actually did a really, really good job. I feel very sure now that he could pull off Light; his acting wasn't bad at all.
I agree, the guy has great potential. The material for 17 again was pretty shitty, but Efron managed to take that and churn out a mediocre movie, imagine what he might be able to do with good material?

- Light needs an actor that is like him , NOT ONE THT JUST LOOKS LIKE HIM

I understand that they are trying to make the characters seem like the manga, but its to different kinds of art...they HAVE to change some details in order to make it a good movie, just look at what happened with the new batman films, they recreated it, imagine if the new batman still had that gray ballet-like suit instead of the armor, look at what happened with H.L´s joker...thats what they should do with the characters, choosing the actors because of how much they look like the manga...

One of the problems that the japanese live action film had was the fact that they where trying to make the characters too much like the manga, and thats just impossible...L for example, it looks very nice how he moves and acts in the anime, but when puted on live action it looks awful, one just cant buy thats the natural behavior of the character, how he walks, his posture...too exagerated (continue on the next comment)
