  • ain't it sad that 90% of comments here are about led zeppelin?instead of dixon?s brilliant songwritting and muddy?s interpretation.whole lotta british bands were during their beginings practicly blues cover bands(rolling stones come to mind).but because they were white they made it globally acceptible and popular.in a way it's a same old story from benny goodman to elvis to eminem.blavk people invent a new form of music, nurture it and then white people come along and make profit from it.

  • In the beginning was the blues...

  • muddy waters...... i love all versions, but this is his.....and this is the real thing ask any woman!

  • Wow, this reminds me of another song I know by Ed Leppzin...Dead Peppelin...I don't know it was probably my imagination...

  • The organ is what makes this song!

  • Muddy smokin' a blunt!

  • Doesn't matter if Led Zeppelin and Small Faces stole this song, because both make their versions just that. Their own.

Paul Anka, did a whole bunch of music from Nivana and the like in Big Band style, changed some of the melody and even at times the lyrics. He still credited the original writers though.

    What Zeppelin did was wrong.

  • @GuyWithNoName67

    Bullshit!

  • Stop foolin' its the same song and reorded by muddy before your time frame.

  • the led zeppelin version is totally different for me, another genre and another riff!

  • @MsFunny82 but lyrically almost the same smartass

  • @LDZPLEN Whole lotta love is not known for the lyrics,, its all in the legendary riff! :D which show how genious they are to take something so beautifull and make it theyre own, everyone knew they were influenced by dixon and muddy, but they took it to a whole new level. peace.

Check out Small Faces rendition. You'll hear the obvious similarities in Plant's phrasing. In this case it's not only about Dixon's lyrics. Plant admired Marriott, he built his early style on Steve's way of singing (of course Plant had several idols but Marriott was one of them and one of his greats influences). His way of singing in Whole Lotta Love is lifted directly from Small Faces version, it's just so obvious...especially the ending "...woman, you need love".

  • @xJayWalkerx Heya. yea just heard it and its like hearing plant. so similar. i didnt knew that version, ive always thought the way plant sung like on the ending, was his thing :D ty for ruining that! j/k

  • check out small faces version that claimed credit also Small Faces - You Need Loving

  • "Though Led Zeppelin had no doubt heard Muddy Waters's version of "You Need Love", the version of this song that appears to have most directly influenced them was by the Small Faces. The Small Faces released "You Need Loving" in 1966 ..., this track is a straightforward interpretation of "You Need Love" that stays close to Muddy Waters' version. "You Need Loving" was credited to "Lane/Marriot," demonstrating that Led Zeppelin weren't the only ones ...t."

  • @ilurvwomen Led Zeppelin were influenced by the original Willie Dixon's "You need love" and directly created an adaptation of that very song, not the Muddy Waters version. Even today, the song is credited to Willie Dixon.

  • 1:57 You need love originaly by Muddy Waters, stolen by led zeppelin!

  • @willwelsh816 Led Zeplagiarists: featuring Jimmy Plagiarist.. :-D

This song was written by Dixon!! Dixon was a prolific writter, Muddy was one of chicago blues father's, he was american, led zeppelin were british don't you think that lot of american people knew this song? L.Z just change the way to express the blues. we take profit all together

  • @willwelsh816 If it was stolen they would have taken the whole song. Jimmy and Robert said in an interview they put that in as a tribute. Next time do your research before you accuse people who just wanted to be like their idols.

  • @DaAt0miKniPpLe well they could've given him a little credit, Cream's version of Crossroads is very different from the original, and even has some changed lyrics, yet as a tribute, they let people know who it was by. On the Zep album I have, it shows that the song was written by them, yet it was just a version of this. Not a very nice tribute

  • 1:57 WHOLE LOTTA LOVE LED ZEPPELIN?!
