However in June 2007 when the CRTC approved the CTVglobemedia buyout of CHUM Television, CTV was forced to sell the Citytv stations in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver because it already has O&O CTV stations in the same markets, and soon afterwords, Rogers announced that it will buy the Citytv stations from CTVglobemedia.
Initially Rogers wanted to buy CHUM's A-Channel stations along with several speciality channels that were put up for sale by CTV in the wake of pending takeover of the CHUM group.
With this outcome CTVglobemedia retained CHUM's A-Channel stations along with all of CHUM's speciality channels and 35 radio stations.
