Only seen this now Andy been very busy well with 410 subs and double that in subscriptions, I am started to fall behind even on friends videos.
Went to website and registered, nice one and good luck with Hastings Rock, sent friends request on MySpace, yes I saw that one. vids to watch all in private playlists (just the 9)
Very busy even starting to tinker with green screen and Chroma keying, uploaded a 40 sec video of me infront of some pics using vegas 6.
They said I'd have to wait till my stats were collected to view, put in both my channels, I love statistics and thanks for that not on my space much these days, you tube and stickam taking over LOL.
damn YT, I commented on this when this it was 1st posted. Anyway... if i remember correctly I think I said that after watchig this I googled my name and found someone has mentioned me in her online BLOG about a year ago!
Well, you have to consider that all of your videos are new to someone at any given time. For me personally, if I just meet someone who I really like and subscribe to them, I'll go back and over time watch all of the previous videos that they've done to get to know them. The Long Tail theory is a fascinating one.
That's a very good point & would explain some of those 'strange' views. But, i also find that certain older videos suddenly start getting multiple views as well. That i can't explain :)
Put the book in Joe's stocking this Christmas and he's really enjoyed it. OMG I never thought to Google my name I got 26 pages back that's nuts! I feel fairly freaked out now as I always feel like I'm just chatting to my friends here. Will have a look at the TubeMogul site when I get time. Cheers, Lesley
I bought the book on the strength of your review when you did it for Lisa.
It just made me feel like my conversation was being overheard and passed on a bit. I only think of being here in TubeLand with friends though I know other people see and don't comment. L
I'm even more pleased that your husband enjoyed the book, as you bought it because of me!!
I do feel we sometimes forget just how many people are 'out there' watching videos on this site, but maybe not commenting, or getting involved in any way :)
I love TubeMogul, but never thought of my old videos as being the long tail. Very interesting application of the theory. And very true about certain old ones that have a very long shelf life.
BTW - For those who fear books, just Google "long tail" and there are plenty of articles about the theory.
Very informative video Andy! I always appreciate learning new things. I'm going to check out the mogul site ... just for fun. (I'm still a beginner.) : )
Note to self: Don't google YouTube user name again. That and the title of this video make me think of the original stalker anthem ... The Police's, "Every Breath You Take." [shivers] :P
When making this video i was reminded of a song called "Someone's looking at you" by the Boomtown Rats, from the same era as The Police.
Googling your YT user name can be quite a shock. But, if we didn't want people to watch our videos, surely we wouldn't put them up here in the first place? I suppose it can still be a shock that so many others are watching without us even being aware of it :)
I looked at it yesterday. That's cool. If anything it opened my eyes to 10 other sites. I am thinking aboyut opening an acount with them and advertising this channel.
But, speaking of online video, have you ever felt scary that there's always somebody watching your video, but you don't know who they are? I sometimes wonder...
I know what you mean & now that you mention it, it can be a bit strange.
I suppose most of us have got our regular viewers & commenter's. But when a video suddenly gets a lot more views, you've no real idea who all those extra people are, or where they are watching.
I guess it's best not to think about it too much. Spooky... :)
Most of my videos get about 40 views in the first three days then just trickle very slowly upward... But, like you said it's a fairly consistant trickle.
The only exception is the channel icon which nobody bothers looking at and one vid I know is linked which get's 3x the views of the others.
Were you in the loo? lol And congrats on the black envelope size thingy wingy on your video. Interesting, I'll have to check this site out one day if I can find a moment. I've seen my stats on google which I thought was interesting to a certain point. If I want to be a partner I might be. I check my links out, I find that more interesting.
LOL. No, not the loo, the kitchen. I've been trying to find new places to record vlogs, to vary it a bit. I suppose the toilet would be a sort of natural progression, so who knows?
I've been trying for a while to get my videos to play in widescreen. Most of ny videos are recorded in widescreen, so it only seems sensible to get them viewed that way.
I love stats. While YT does have a "links" feature under each video with the number of clicks it has received, I found through googling that this is not representative of the actual amount of websites that have our videos, including some play our videos on autostart. I have a video called TubeYou that goes up 200 views every 3 days, and that must be on autostart because no one comments on it. To go viral the vid indeed must be "out there". I'll check out this site, thanks for the recommendation.
Very interesting vlog. I often go back and check the first few videos when I subscribe to a new person. I like to see how they started, compared to where they are now.
I've always had the mentality that whatever I put up on this site, stays up there forever (unless I yank it). I think too many ppl speak off the cuff, say things in the heat of the moment, and then don't realize that it remains online for all to see, long after that initial spike is over with.
I think you could be right. As i've just said to somebody else. Maybe i should ask for some royalties?
As you probably know, i've kept all of my videos up, except for the few that had copyright material in them.
I think it's great that people are still watching some of those older vids. Some of the vids that have had views recently have really surprised me. You just never know do you? :)
Interesting video. I think you mentioned the book before and I meant to check it out back then but never got around to it. So I just now ordered it off Amazon-used-from some guy in Delaware-maybe there is something to this Long Tail Theory after all. :)
I should probably be able to start The Long Tail in a week or so-I'll let you know what I think. Glad you're enjoying The Go-Between. I think it was one of the best books I read this year. I read Spies by Michael Frayn afterwards because I heard it had the same theme of children getting caught up in adult's secrets. I don't think it had the same quality of writing as the Go-Between but it did have an interesting way of illustrating how we look back and remember our past.
I find new subs ocasionally go back through my videos as I do before I sub to people. Of cousre a lot of mine are related to each other so it helps to get the full picture
Well I just joined - not that I think I need to track my videos but it's quite interesting - also to know you could upload your videos to 12 sites at the same time is mind boggling. Another interesting vlog Andy!
I've not tried to upload to any site other than YouTube as yet. I'm not sure i'll bother either.
But, as you say, that is a bit mind boggling.

I found over 25 pages of links when i checked. I must admit i didn't check to see where many of them led.
Although my videos appeared to be in some strange places. i don't recall being in anybody's blog. That sounds interesting, what was the blog about? :)
andymooseman 4 years ago
it was good, someone basically said "hey check this guy out" and they linked to the Love Doctor video for Valentine's Day

Cool Vid! I Google checked myself a few days ago. I found quite a lot of my vids on AOL video.

That's a real eye opener :)

Good advice for those anti-book people Ken. There are even videos about it here on YT.
For me the Long Tail idea came out of talking to my friend & looking at those video views on TubeMogul :)

The first time i Googled my YT user name, i was amazed. Everybody should do it at least once.
The way that our videos & ideas circulate all around the world without us realising it, is still a source of wonder to me.
I still get a kick out of thinking that there is somebody over there in Miami, FLA watching & commenting on my videos.
As you say, if your video is not 'out there' it can't be watched & i'm sure we all like our videos to be watched :)
