@RomanKnight88 it all depends where you are from, if the uk then places like giant cod and ebay, if usa then try the robot marketplace. send me a message for more detail
Hey. You can go to NERC (dot) us and click on the big red "Getting Started" button. There are links (hopefully ones that still work) that will point you in the right direction. Youtube isn't really the place for me to be explaining things like this to you. Good luck!
You could build that exact platform for under $300. Overall I've probably put over $600 into different renovations of it all together for the 3+ years it has been fighting.
@liamglen1 Bull. He had sponsors. Each of his drive motors alone is over $150 (NPC T-64s). The Etek motor driving his weapon is about $800 and change. His wheels are at least $40 a pop. Throw in a custom (probably laser) cut weapon made out of hardened steel or Titanium and you're looking into at least $200 for the raw steel (at least a grand for Ti) and a cutting fee of maybe $100 at least (huge disc). ESCs and electronics haven't even been talked about. Raw cost at least $8,000 I'd say.
@goatman357 the etek motor was not driving the weapon the thing is to bug its got 10 hp and its 6 inches wide unless your talking about a diferent motor
What motor did you use for the saw? What one do you recomend?Looking on starting up and ahave a good idea with the saw thing just not really kool on the whole motor thing yet.
it's very nice, but if you could use a claw to hold the enemy close then you could do more damage, cus ur bot wouldn't fly away as soon as you hit the enemy
Isn't the DX6 discontinues. They upgraded to the Dx6i. They still have the AR6000 receiver but they also have the new BR6000 receiver. By the way, I'm also thirteen and I fell in love with robotics after first watching the show robot wars. LOL. How we all relate...
I am using a Spektrum DX6 2.4 GHz transmitter with the AR600 Bot Receiver (available at the Robot Marketplace online). In this video I was using 2 Banebots 24:1 16mm drive motors. I switched those out recently to 17:1 Maxon gearmotors.
1 pound weight limit...plus there really wouldn't be a point to it. If I could drive well enough to drag someone with a claw I might as well just drive into them...it would be a lot simpler. ;-)
I know builders who are younger than you and still can compete quite well. I started when I was 13 personally. But BEFORE you start messing with things (you might hurt yourself or waste a lot of money), do some research. Start searching for websites, go on discussion forums and ask questions. It's not as hard as you think. I would recommend going on NERC's website or the RFL and get some tips there. If you have any direct questions though please don't hesitate to send me a personal message :).
That's an awesome robot. There's only one thing I'd change about it. It looks like that blade will just go under some robots instead of getting a good hit. Moving the blade up a little bit should fix that problem.
Yeah for the most part that's true. This bot is now over 2 years old and is in dire need of a redesign. Even after a 2nd place showing at it's last competition, I almost broke an axi and my blade flew off. The whole chassis I think needs to be redone to eliminate huge pressure on the weapon motor from upward spinning drums/discs.
It's an axi brushless outrunner (available at hobby-lobby). It's the 2208/20 model. Very light, very powerful, fairly sturdy, and about $75 bucks. You'll also need a brushless speed controller. I'd recommend getting the one that comes with the hobby-lobby package. It's good.
Probably the easiest way would be to buy a powerful servo (about $120 on the robot marketplace) and stick the flipper right on there. You can plug servos right into your receiver.
horizontal spinners hit themselves along witht he other bot. i think vertical spinners are better. cool bot tho, ive never heard of a one pound weight class :P
yo i would spin the blade to other way because the way its spinning it can only slash but if you spin it the other way the jagged blade would hack into your oppenent. just flip the blade over no neet to redirect the motor.
It actually is spinning that way, it's just an illusion. It digs into opponents quite well. And it's not as easy as just flipping the blade upside-down now...It's screwed on and the holes wouldn't match up...a simple wire switch however would reverse the motor if I had to.
I got the parts from a variety of places including the Robot Market place, Banebots and hobby-lobby. It cost around $350 all together now but that's probably including spares and stuff.
a 5.5" Titanium waterjet cut saw blade with 6 jagged teeth isn't enough for you? lol. It isn't too powerful, just sometimes it destroys itself. That outrunner kicks ass.
The blade was water-jet cut at Aquacut engineering in Syracuse, NY. My friend had made it for one of his robots. I bought it off of him for $20. You'd either have to know someone who has a blade like that already, or get it made yourself. Water-jetting for that part could cost anything from $20-$50 I'd say depending on the place. It's made out of 6AL-4V titanium that's .08" thick. Hope that helps.

shouldn't the blade spin the other way if you want it to cut? coz spinning that way the flat side of the teeth are catching and throwing both bots around. Unless that was the plan?
