it's a mix of both for me i will pick up a book for certain creators (green lantern, spider-man) i will also pick up a book for certain writers ( jms, geoff johns.ed brubaker) but if a writer does a bad job with a character ( the new spider-man team with spider-man) i'll drop it.
I lean more towards creators as well. For example, right now I would be more inclined to read anything with Robert Kirkman's name on it. And I'm also dying to see moore of Terry Moore's work. Although I'm not sure you'd like it, Eric, seeing as he does a lot of women talking and that apparently bores you. LOL JK! As for the flip side, if you told me Hit-Girl was in something new, I'm all over that like a fly over garbage.
@WeirdGamer20555 Same here. I see whatever I think might be interesting and give it a shot. I'm collecting the Superman / Batman books because it's freak'n Superman and Batman!
i believe Paul Dini shoul write the definitive "riddler story". Riddler should be given an epic origin story. by this i mean he should have what "the killing joke" was for joker or "long halloween" for two-face. besides, he´s really underestimated. that´s what pissed me of about "arkham asylum:living hell", Dan Slott seemed to truly believe riddler is a lame villain, which is bulshit. imagine how good a character he is, that even with so few good stories, some can actually see his potential.
i prefer character, but if there is something by someone i like then i will be inclined to buy or read that story without looking into what it's about. i'll just go off of what's on the cover.
I really pick up books mostly for characters, but if the stories have aterrible writer Ill stop reading it. like ill read any spider-man story but since joe quesdada screwed it up so i just read ultimate right now.
I loved Sandman, but never picked up The Dreaming because Neil Gaiman wasn’t writing it, so I had no interest in it. But at the same time I will pick a comic just because it has Harley quinn in it….and then I picked up Sweet Tooth just because it struck my fancy one day I had never read Jeff Lemire’s stuff before…I guess I’m a rather neurotic comic book reader…
I will admit. I've only seriously got into comics several months ago. I picked up a X-Force trade and the first 2 trades of Warmachine because of the charaters. I just picked up the first two tades of Geoff John's Teen Titans, because I loved Blackest Night and the Teen Titan cartoon. Mostly, I get trades based on recommendation from people like you. I can't get single issuse where I live, but when I move, I guess it would be a mixture.
@Amuia Also, I am a firm believer that The Riddler should at least get his own mini-series. Am I the only one who would love to see 'The Riddler: Year One'?
@Amuia fuck no(sorry about that. just wanted to emphasise). i´ve always been a huge Riddler fan, and i would really really like somone to give him the attention he deserves. he´s really underestimated for no good reason. actually, i´ve been thinking about doing a video on that topic soon, probably this weekend. so anyway, no, you´re not the only one who wants "The Riddler: Year One".
Then you should stick to reading and picking up trades on the characters you like, cause in my opinion JMS will deliver a good story on WW, just wait it out. Also, your right about the 'Riddler', he needs a definitive Origin story and One really good Run...who do you think could do a good run with the 'Riddler' ? Manos might know of a good 'Riddler story'.

I think I usually follow creators and creators can get me to follow their characters as long as subsequent artist build on what good writers have established. Occasionally it will work the other way around, usually when a writer that I don't know follows a run that I'm following. Brubaker was like that for me. I find it interesting that you said Rucka doesn't get the Question when his Question is Renee Montoya. Do you define the character by the mask or the person behind it?
see I find that the writers most of the time write the character as the character. if they do the characters differently then thats just stupid, so for me, i think its more character based. writer based stories for me pertain more to the plot or structure of the story. I often think the characters are written the same most of the time because the character is the character. writers don't deviate (unless we're talking about re-interpretations like ultimate or jeph loeb)
well i'm more of a characters i'll read a comic book if it features my favorite character. cartoons do the same you like the episode that features your favorite character. i'm a batman fan but don't read all series right now i'm reading batman and robin because of damian. but not happy with the artwork but still sticking to the series to see what happen to damian
I'm writing a crossover with my comic book characters crossing over with Marvel. I've been putting some thought into it so that my characters are shocked or amazed to learn about the Marvel characters, and I'm taking my time with certain characters. Do you have any tips so I don't make it a spoof on accident? (I tend to make the story too funny on accident.) Also which books should I look to for inspiration?
But I'll will buy Spawn No matter what simply because I've stuck with it so long and it's switching from artist and creative team I just like the different takes on it.
Yeah main reason I got interested in Brightest Day is because of Boston Brand AKA Deadman finally getting some screen time, and I'm hoping once it's all said and done Deadman will finally get a new ongoing series.
@blowshimselfupdude I think he will, since Johns is the new creative direcotr. (or something) and he has said he really likes aquaman and wanted to do a rebirth (basicly brightest day now) so i think Aquaman will get his own series which i'll read.
now I got a question for you when a author comes on a book do you think a that author should have the right to use the character as speaking piece for themselves or should they just write the character the way he has always been written , or does it just depend on the books subject matter
same with me when it comes to batman ever thing else I feel if i dont know the people working on it then i dont care . Now when it comes to artists there really only one person that makes me want to get the book if its good or not and thats Frank quietly . I just love his art work now it does help that most of the books he has done have been ewith morrision but i still love his work
I buy the X-Books no matter who is on them. Everything else depends on the creator. There aren't any creators or artists that would make me buy a book I'm not interested in though, unless John Byrne decides to put his grudge with Marvel behind him.
i wanna read immortal iron fist because of the writers

I usually read either comics that are well received by others or comics that I like when I read the first two chapters in the bookstore.

I buy pretty much anything by Andy Diggle...Even if i don't usually read it.
Other than that, i'm more of a character guy. Sadly, the characters i enjoy reading usually don't have a lot of trades (or very good trades)
MiniKojib 1 year ago
abit of both.
i pick up hulk religiously even if i dont like it or dc/marvel cosmic stuff.
other books ill choose because of the writer, ex: batman, daredevil, superman...or anything peter david (except supergirl).
