I have my turntable rca connected to the phono on my amp, then i have a phono male to 3.5mm male from the minidisc recording out on my amp to line in on my PC. It works.
@djlaw56what I'm afraid turntables don't work like tape decks. You'd need a vinyl cutter or a press, which are typically very expensive. If you want to put a song on a record, your best bet is to look for a one off record cutting service near you.
@djlaw56what Look for Serato Scratch Live or Traktor Pro. It is possible to take songs in mp3 and have them on your turntables. Depending on your material..
If the vinyl is recorded in stereo can the vocals be removed from the MP3 at a later date using Audacity or some other vocal remover technique? Or wil the format change alter the stereo tracks to prevent this?
@Just1Schlitz As long as you record it on your computer as stereo, no, those techniques should still work. All the same, you might have better success with a CD or pre-existing mp3.
When have my USB Turntable plugged in, I can't hear any other sounds coming from my computer. Also, how can I listen to the record even when its not being recorded? How would I configure my volumes and input/output devices
@Mrfunnyrainbow I personally prefer Adobe Audition because I used to use Cool Edit. Having used Sound Forge, however, it's a fine audio editing program.
@Doubleringer That depends on the output of your turntable. I've found that the signal produced by most turntables is too low for it to register on line in.
@vckhaze That's why I use any Amplifier with tape out (using RCA Plugs) to line in, or better still, a Mixer with output, I find the mixer is better because you can adjust bass and treble, before you record etc I have converted most of my collection this way.
@Doubleringer using the flow Turntable->Amp->Mixer is certainly an option, but this tutorial is to help people transfer their music as cheaply and simply as possible.
Nice dance

@zuma5278255424 if you look at your input device under Recording Settings, there is a checkbox labeled "Listen to this Device".

@USBTurntableLove Soundforge will use the same process as any audio software, just make sure you have your input selected in SF before recording.

OMG way too many steps I'm sure there is a product out there that just plugs into ur computer?

@toemeraldcity Sure there is, but it doesn't change the process really. It just candy coats it and costs you money. A lot of money.
