Where are your gloves using the Acetone? That goes right through your skin! Where are you masks while cutting the carbon? This stuff is worse than asbestos when inhaled! Nice work but a little more attention to safety is in order.
Again with the improper application of carbon fiber...You don't want to run a squeegee across the carbon fiber fabric when applying the epoxy resin...It distorts the carbon fiber weave pattern...That is why people use brushes or rollers when applying the resin...also because you don't want too much resin...The strength of a carbon fiber composite is determined by how much resin there is...Too much resin and the part won't be as strong as you want it to.
@datzfast The strength of the part is basically determined by the direction of the carbon fibers. There are tensile stresses and compressive stresses on a part so carbon fabric is layed in a way that the fibers are oriented parallel to the direction of the force so that the fibers can counter the forces being applied to it after a part has cured. By using a squeegee/brush the weave can be distorted making a weak spot. Rollers squeezes the epoxy while mantaining the weave configuration.
@datzfast Think of it in terms of a truss...If you went ahead and bent one of the members then the structure has become weaker...The place where the truss was bent is the weak point where the truss is likely to fail...Your more than welcome to make test pieces and do the tensile testing yourself...but you won't find spread sheets out there that tell you this...There are a lot of factors that go into making composites(Material Science) which includes the raw materials and the curing process.

The part looks nice, Did you bag it? Please you didn't use polyester resin?
For Evolvevolvo The heat coeffient between graphite and fiberglass is two far apart. Fiberglass drinks two much heat which causes the face ply to over heat and boil especially under negative pressure. I would use a LTM graphite material, cure it at 200 degrees and post cure at 300 degrees. Use a VTM material to make your part, under positive pressure(autoclave)
Its a nice part, but there are ways to make it better
why in the work use cabron fiber for molds. you should have made a mold using fiberglass, then made a final product using carbon fiber with vacuum infusion for much better results.
Vacuum bag? $300 box?

@xxsaranglubxx what was the measurable difference in strength between squeegee and brush roller applications? and where may i find this data set?
i am more than just curious.

@xxsaranglubxx just as i suspected no one has the answer, its weaker this is whiy and no we dont know how much weaker. lovely.

ltm materials we use (12/211) cure at 56 deg C. post cure anywhere upto 215 degC

At first, I was like, "What are they trying to do???"
After seeing the results, it seems like a great idea! (meant for the battaries, right?)
Thanks for the vid.
