I am Australian and i sure as hell hope this ship was saved from the scrap yard , it would surely have made any man or woman proud to serve on her, god bless J
this ship might come to stay in portland, maine! if not, its going to be scrapped.. the city is debating over whether to welcome it or not because it will take up a lot of room in the harbor and may be an "eye sore". However, they are saying that the ship can be made into a museum and attract tourists and create jobs. Lets all hope it goes to portland!
I remember the ships visit to Dublin in 1996 and was privileged to see two of the F18 Hornets take off from Dublin Airport to rejoin the carrier sailing off the coast of Wexford. This ship will always have a special place in the hearts of the Irish.
This is great video of the Kennedy. I reported aboard Kennedy in September 1979 and departed June 1983. Retired from the reserves in 2005 as SHCM. I love this ship.

I was on the ship between 2004 and 2006. Through combat, damage and trials the crew remained dedicated and strong. Out of my time in the Navy, I miss this command the most.
I was flown onto the USS JFK as an airman apprentice from Sig. about 1/3 thru the cruise to VFA-87. While most of the people in the squadron treated me like shit because i was the "new guy"...I got a lot of life lessons from that time.
In retrospect..I liked this ship better than the other carriers I was on.
I did the work ups and cruise in 97' with VFA-87. We hit 12 ports, but lost alot of crew and pilots on that cruise. Both ship and squadron.. I also remember getting reports of Princess dianna and B.I.G dying..It had its highs and lows but all in all a good cruise...Oh yea, you can see the JFK in the movie Speed 2 during our workups down in St. Martin.....It was mistakingly put into the film as there were not supposed to be any help in site.
i served a month and a half on the Kennedy back in 04 with my squadron VF-11 after we switched CAGS, the ship had a hole in her ort side keel, and you could see it lean to port from lookn at the bow from the fantail, plus i remember working nights and always needing my flashlight to look for hols in the catwalks, but a pleasure to have been on though!
my step dad served on that ship for about 4 years

JFK - hero just like the men and women who served on this ship. The man and the ship, gone too soon.

My son was on this ship for this last "ship trip". I had a personal tour of it in JAX in May '06. What an awesome ship.

This ship was decommissioned. It is no longer in service. One last time it went to this port. It was a great ship.
