for creativity, i cant imagine any program giving you more on the fly options than ableton, after the apc40, holy shit! i really want a maschine to make my beats with and use the apc to control my samples and loops. oh the possibilities!
if all you want to do is be boring and just mix, maybe throw in an effect every now any then. great fun......not.
Traktor is the best software to start laptop DJing with, but if you want to take your set to greater levels, so you are actually performing/improvising your own material aswell, ableton is where its at.
Not knocking Ableton, but yeah, Ableton is good if you're producing and mixing your own music. If you're playing a paying gig at a big club though and playing a set live you want Tractor IMO. I guess it depends what you're using it for.
Ableton live is way harder than DJing lol I know I'm going to catch alot of shit for saying this but if you've never checked it then you cant speak. I have done both! F off you can be way more creative in Ableton
100 % right ! Putting cd's or loading vinyl all the time, a bit routine work, always the same, i work with 2 midi controller and cteated my own liveset... LIVE for LIFE !
agree - ableton is not for your standard A to B mixing DJ . Ableton allows you to go much further and use it as a giant sampler of sorts - creating loops - re edit - crazy time seqs. all on the fly - LIVE - no other programs does that
@theofficialSandDevil It means its a "Remix" or the Original song. RMX= Remix

I sometimes see (Live) behind DJ-names, like:
Sebastien Leger
Fedde Le Grand
Rauwkost (Live)
Etc.
What does it mean when there is (live) behind a djname?
lauwrencio 1 year ago
@lauwrencio It means they are not using a cdj and doing it with a MIDI control using ableton
MiBlazed 11 months ago
do you always have to press play with your mouse in ableton?
because that would suck

Space works as a play/stop toggle.

no - midi mapped it to anything u like
joeyparanoia 2 years ago
I think if your midi controller keyboard has transport buttons on it, you can assign it to the ones on the software!
corndogers564 2 years ago
nah, just map to a key on you controller/keyboard

Fair enough, to each their own I guess.
Ableton has decided freeze everytime I try to load a track so I've been using Traktor today....ha.
alastairfff 2 years ago
these are my thoughts exactly. ableton will practically beat match everything for you
danlar84 2 years ago
wrong - you must go and warp all the tracks you want to play
joeyparanoia 2 years ago
yeah, so you warp them all, whats wrong? better than beatmatching
