Pete, you are correct in replacing the split valve stem. Have you had problems with bad valve stems before?

I shit you not. I had both rear tires on my car replaced with new tires and valve stems recently. A month after being replaced, one tire went flat ....AND IT WAS THE VALVE STEM leaking right where you pointed out. I thought nothing of it, but 2 weeks later THE OTHER TIRE WENT FLAT. It was the other valve stem. Either the guy installed it with 2 much force, tearing it there, or it was old

Had a flat going down the highway in the middle of the night, everything closed, no spare and all because of the cracked dry valve stem... Ever sinse then, I change the valve stems weather it needs it or not... Thanks Pete
