Some good critics on here, however I have to agree with TomL325photo. This Video up-load could have been alot better than this. The sound and picture are poor and don't do any justice for bill Haley. Music like this is like a classic Mustang with 6 cylinder V8 engine, It needs fine tuning before for people, stop and look, regardless how battered it looks.

The Comets now perform with two "new" members. David Byrd (The Byrdman) is a world class piano player and Jackson Haney, a guitar virtuoso who beat out 300 other musicians for this coveted spot because he was the only one to do that famous solo in "Rock Around The Clock" like it was originally done.
Ok for those that haven't read any of the liner notes pertaining to any or all of the bill haley music, the drummer appearing in this video DID infact work for Bill torwards the end of the Haley time period. Therefore it makes him a member of the Comets. I am about as close to Bill and the Pompeillis' as one can get and if you need to know why read the liner notes and see.

Marshal lytle played bass on all of the hits from 52-55.joey 54-55,dick 53-55 and frannie beecher 55-62.you are right frannie did not play on clock but he played on all of the hits in the glory years.that makes these four guys original comets.the guys on this clip are original money making jerks.with the exception of the drummer 63-68.
Interesting. Who are the musicians? I'm sure they must have performed with Haley at some point, or they'd never get away with claiming to be his band. Even so, I feel the Jodimars/Franny Beecher line-up do probably have more right to be trading under the Comets banner. They were certainly responsible for the backing on a lot of Bill's finest Essex and Decca cuts.
I Played bass with the Jesters at the original Porkys in Ft. Lauderdale. One nite Porky said he had some guys that wanted to sit in with us. Porky said these guys were good and would not embarress us. Up came Bill Haley and his Comets.
We than played again that weekend with Bill Haley, the Diamonds and the Jesters on the same bill at Porkys. It was Spring Break 1959 or 1960 when this happened. Porky was a really nice guy and not at all like the movie portrayed him.
Nothing at all, when billed as such. But when you bill yourselves as "Bill Haley's Comets," then you're ripping off ticket buyers. When I refer to the Fake Comets, I'm referring to two specific groups that bill themselves as real.

Interesting. Who are the musicians? I'm sure they must have performed with Haley at some point, or they'd never get away with claiming to be his band. Even so, I feel the Jodimars/Franny Beecher line-up do probably have more right to be trading under the Comets banner. They were certainly responsible for the backing on a lot of Bill's finest Essex and Decca cuts.

I Played bass with the Jesters at the original Porkys in Ft. Lauderdale. One nite Porky said he had some guys that wanted to sit in with us. Porky said these guys were good and would not embarress us. Up came Bill Haley and his Comets.
We than played again that weekend with Bill Haley, the Diamonds and the Jesters on the same bill at Porkys. It was Spring Break 1959 or 1960 when this happened. Porky was a really nice guy and not at all like the movie portrayed him.

Obviously the FAKE Comets. NO original members, the drummer didn't join until 1959...the rest have never played with Haley.

Nothing at all, when billed as such. But when you bill yourselves as "Bill Haley's Comets," then you're ripping off ticket buyers. When I refer to the Fake Comets, I'm referring to two specific groups that bill themselves as real.
