Oldsmobile was the first car with a turbo.. Duh the Jetstar and the Saab 97x is a Oldsmobile Bravada from the hood back. Even the AWD system is the Oldsmobile's smartrack setup
@oldsmobiletw You are correct, Alot of people got the facts wrong about what Saab actually did with the turbo.
What Saab did was to invent the modern turbo which can build up pressure and at a certain RPM inject compressed air to the cylinders. Before this turbos basically performed at 50% when you hit half of the max RPM which BTW was an invention from P-47 US Fighter from WWII.
They should do commercial like this in Europe if they want to save themselves, here we got a similar ad with a motherfucker citroen c4 (car that sucks a lot),imagine what it should be for a 9-5 or a 9-3..
To think that the US bought both of our cars, Volvo and Saab and honestly - They f'd em' in the ass. There's no secret that the main reason they bought the cars was to throw the technology into "their own" cars. Ford = Volvo / GM = Saab. It sickens me really... Since I've always been loving the Volvo. Let's see what the Chinese people will do.
You guys do realize that by this point, Saab AB and Saab Automobile were essentially two different companies. Saab AB sold it's share in the division back in 2000 to GM. Saab Automobile was owned 100% by GM. GM bought 51% (controlling interest) in 1990, and the rest in 2000. This car is a badge-engineered mid-size SUV, the GMT360 platform. For the record, I am a PROUD owner of a 2005 9-3 Aero. Also first turbo car = '62 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Saab didnt have an SUV at the time because the 9-4x is still in testing. The 9-7x was a logical vehicle to produce. Its made Saab abit of cash and has been Saabs second best selling model in the US since its launch.
its got a central ignition, saab logos, saab 9-5 inspired dash and helped Saab make some money from the SUV market when their 9-4x wasnt ready. Owners love them and the press has been pretty good about it. Its the diehard saab fans that have kicked up all the shit about this car. Well im one Saab fan who wishes this car was availible in NZ so I could buy one.
I am Saab fan and driver and I would definitely buy this if I were in the market for a midsize SUV over any other one. I did sound a bit like I was putting it down, I love this car, and it does have everything a Saab has, like you said. I know someone that had one of these (saabs are all the ever drive) and they loved it, the only they sold it was because they no longer needed an SUV, they got an
'09 9-5 aero. I drive a 9-5 myself. Saabs are great cars, all of them.
That a company that only makes a handful of very expensive, very custom vehicles per year is obtaining SAAB makes me feel good about it - they certainly couldn't do any worse than GM's lackluster 'this doesn't fit with our fast food montage, so, eh, we'll bury it.' management for the last so many years.
the funny thing about these 'born from jets' commericlas is that the fighter planes they show are not even Saab fighters! Saab make the JAS39 Gripen, which is a very advanced fighter, why dont they show that instead?
@lollerskates115 Actualy the engineering in the cars have many jet attributes and charactoristics....
first of all Saab was the first car to have a Turbo-Charger in it.... (jet engines are essentialy turbos)
secont many things in the cockpit resemble jet fighters such as the center controlls, the night pannel button, the center key engnition, the seat belt red light on the top, and the Airliner style rotatible upper light...
3rd the fact is in 1947 saab started making cars and jets.
@lollerskates115 Well no not the ones who owns the company but the ones who built the cars and jets.... SAAB has still a link to jets because you still know it's a Swedish car that is built in Sweden as well as the Jets
@lollerskates115 yes it does in keeping what the original company integrated into their cars, saab continues a lot of those ideas in their line of vehicles to this day.

@oldsmobiletw Not true........ the First FWD Turbo Sedan was a saab......
using a 16 valve 4 cylinder turbo...
From which the likes of pretty much all other Front wheel drive cars to date are...... turbo or not.

lol at passing a rebadged TrailBlazer as a real Saab.
I hope the new ownership group realizes that Saab is more than just a quirky placement of the ignition...

@Howie262 I dont think saab was the first car to have turbo in it. The BMW 2002 Turbo was made before.

@MrJumper68 Saab still innovated upon the turbo. But as i said... the first FWD 4cyl 16v turbo sedan was a saab.

"used to make jets"?
umm, Saab still makes jets, mkay?
look up saab gripen.
its a top of the line fighter-
there are still orders being placed for new ones. what's up with these inaccurate Saab commercials made by US advertisers?
AgileWarrior 3 years ago
as i said on another comment about this video, why didint saab use the Gripen as the fighter. Instead they used another makers plane.
