mine does both in 20. HA (j/k, but really does in around 20).
There's no point in doing raytracing, tho. might as well render a normal pass and use that for refraction in AE, if you have it. brings down the rendering time massively.
i was having the same problem with long baking times. Check out the youtube user Mpan3, he was the one that made the gigantic tidal wave sim. Somewhere in his youtube profile should be a link to his website. There you can find a download of blender optimized for physics. It pretty much cut in half my bake time. Before it took about 14 hours for a 250 frame animation with water quality at 150. Now it's taking about 2 hours for a 250 frame animation with the water quality at 200.

You mean you can use blender not only to make animations, models, and games but you can also use it as a physics sandbox?
I think I'm in love...

32 hours of rendering time, for 9 seconds of animation, what an undertaking lol, at least it came out looking really damn cool

What subdivision did you use? Cause this seems very detailed for a res of 150 to me.
Do you know why you can see a cross after most of the water has fallen? Other vids here don't have that.

It was 150 ^^
And about the cross, no idea..
