This ignores The other 2 economies which will have passed the US in CO2 emissions by then. Compare that with ENTIRE WORLD CO2 emissions of a mere 8Gt for the yr 2005 from CDIAC. Given the reality of the above numbers, which are NOT disputed, what kind of fool could possibly believe that it's possible to trim CO2 emissions by ANY amount?

@SirTorment Even if you don't accept that we are capable of much more (free-energy etc), I don't have a huge problem with coal fired plants, but I think real alternatives are Thorium reactors which cannot be weaponized, a small marble of thorium could supply enough electricity for one individual for a lifetime. @ROGER459 Hey, the EV1 worked really well, when GM stopped supporting it, owners continued to try and keep them running and established a 'foundation' of sorts to achieve this end. It eventually died though. This was in the '90's, the doco was made in 2006.
So if this was possible in the '90's; we could achieve alot better today. I am not sure why the model you speak of ran so badly, but I am sure it is possible to develop other mechanisms besides the internal combustion, it is really old.

Until science can predict a future climate that isn't more than half a year away accurately (at least to within 80% accuracy) i won't trust them on what the future will be like in 50+ years.

Predicting what the climate will do is like predicting what would happen to you if you travel into a black hole. They have theories and a lot of science to support their theories but nobody has ever traveled into a black hole and told a story to the public about it... Would you be ready to travel into a black hole if science told you it was perfectly safe and there would be cake?

Creating an illusion of oil running out would benefit the oil companies by the rule of supply and demand. Using numbers from the US DOE, China alone will be emitting ~25Gt CO2 by yr 2050, in a 'bus. as usual' scenario, or ~19Gt in an 'extreme austerity' scenario. This ignores The other 2 economies which will have passed the US in CO2 emissions by then. Compare that with ENTIRE WORLD CO2 emissions of a mere 8Gt for the yr 2005 from CDIAC. Given the reality of the above numbers, which are NOT disputed, what kind of fool could possibly believe that it's possible to trim CO2 emissions by ANY amount?

I agree that GW or whatever you want to call it is BS, but couldn't we go a step further and get rid of oil anyways. It pollutes the atmosphere and causes cancer in heavily polluted cities. Also the combustion engine has been around for over a hundred years and we still think it's cutting edge... @8n4n08 You are an idiot. CO2 is not a pollutant, in fact, it helps crops grow...We should be trying to put MORE co2 out, it DOUBLE food in Africa whereas we are HALVING their food by cutting it out...and killing a billion of them by taking away their crops for biofuels.
Secondly, we invented spontaneous combustion a while ago which removes nasties that happen while burning coal (co2 not being one of them). Yes, pollution exists, coal/co2 isn't the issue!

BUT combustion engines produce CARBON MONOXIDE which is deadly. I have NOTHING against coal fired power plants, it can lift the poor out-of poverty.
But we have technology available to us NOW, that is being hidden away because it would cost certain ppl alot of money, which could remove carbon monoxide from the air and prevent cancer and other illnesses in places like Mexico city and China.

@SirTorment Even if you don't accept that we are capable of much more (free-energy etc), I don't have a huge problem with coal fired plants, but I think real alternatives are Thorium reactors which cannot be weaponized, a small marble of thorium could supply enough electricity for one individual for a lifetime. Search the 'Thorium Revolt' on utube.
Also research the EV1, doco called 'Who Killed the Electric Car.
Sonofusion or sonoluminescence is brilliant, you'll love this, if you look into it.

@ROGER459 Hey, the EV1 worked really well, when GM stopped supporting it, owners continued to try and keep them running and established a 'foundation' of sorts to achieve this end. It eventually died though. This was in the '90's, the doco was made in 2006.
So if this was possible in the '90's; we could achieve alot better today. I am not sure why the model you speak of ran so badly, but I am sure it is possible to develop other mechanisms besides the internal combustion, it is really old.

Until science can predict a future climate that isn't more than half a year away accurately (at least to within 80% accuracy) i won't trust them on what the future will be like in 50+ years.
Because let's face it, they have their own "proof" but no hard evidence. Until they have it, they can go die!

@DonnnixD Oil companies actually benefit from the Global Warming myth and they are the ones funding the organizations that are pimping Global Warming, because it makes the price of oil go up.
There is no shortage of oil in the world as you can see by the oil spill in the gulf, so they need to create a false scarcity. Its hard to follow but the Greens are being played like Stradivari.

Einstein would be called a kook and dismissed today by these "scientists" since relativity suggest that the "settled science" of newtonian physics do NOT APPLY in near light speed or high gravity situations. Einsteins works met the scientific burden of proof just as global warming does, Einstein's works arnt comparable to the statements of climate change deniers for the simple reason that those statements dont meet the scientific burden of proof.

@M4GW Running out of oil and global warming are two different things. Oil companies don't benefit from global warming because people are trying to "save the planet" and lower demands. Creating an illusion of oil running out would benefit the oil companies by the rule of supply and demand. We are running out of oil because although we have a lot of oil left it would take more energy to extract the most of oil than the extracted oil would give out meaning we can't sustain production.

@M4GW Exactly... we have plenty of it right here in North Dakota... 30 years ago they said those fields were run dry. They just found a field larger than Saudi Arabia. We are not running out of oil any day soon.

@M4GW The deals we are to make on making oil more pricey is going to benefit alternative sources of energy, because they will be cheaper for the consumer. This will benefit alternative sources of energy and make them more competetive with oil and coal. Which part of capitalism is it you don't understand? Are you just pretending not to have thought about that?

You make a decent point, and people will have to spend money on stuff they wouldn't otherwise have wanted to in the future regardless of whether it is to roof the house with sun panels, or a new trailer once that house has been blown away by a category 5 hurricane. BUT. You were trying to push the notion that oil companies want more expensive oil, which is clearly wrong, since alternative sources will become competitive as a result.

@M4GW This is very true! Oil production goes down = the price goes up. Demand goes up (China & India) = the price for crude goes up. It is a win/win for Big Oil.
The Greens are living in an illusion where they're fighting against the evils of Big Oil with their undying faith in the Global Warming religion, when in fact they are playing right into the hands of Big Oil.
Anyone should realize that if the mighty Energy Cartel was against the AGW movement, it would have died long ago. How sad!

The spill in the gulf was just an uncontrolled release of oil from one well. You really can't infer anything about the world's global oil reserves from one well.
As for false scarcity, people are using up global oil reserves. The easiest, best, earliest-found sources of oil are drying up, and the remaining wells' oil is more costly to refine.
