  • why would you do performance tests with fucking convertible versions of the car....128i coupes 0-50 is 5.9

  • conclusion 128i slightly faster acceleration than mini. Mini better handling and faster around corners than 128i.

  • does anyone else HATE the sound of traction-controlled cars taking off?

  • @rg500delta the cars traction control was disabled for this test. that's just what a launch sounds like. youngin

  • @CoonBabble hmm. I have a 2010 cooper S and with traction control off, it spins the tires like a mammajamma. That chirp-chirp-chirp business usually indicates TC doing it's stuff, but I am just guessing on this one. And I suppose a dragstrip is a lot stickier (and squeakier) than the streets around here! It's hard to modulate the gas to stay on threshold of traction, the car is so weak down low and spins the tires so easily at higher revs. 8-) fun all the way around!

  • that was insanely BORING!

  • still prefer the R53 except for the fuel burn!

  • They tested a cabrio? Should have put up the JCW!! lol

  • Why are both cars convertibles?

They're probably heavier than their hardtop counterparts.

  • well that was informative, but boring to watch

  • 11 people lost to a BMW

  • What is rollout???

  • @JacoPastorius99 A rollout, is a rollout. The car rolls out before acceleration starts. I.e. Not a standing start

  • @MrMockeryMcFly Thank you.

  • 128 for the win cuz its RWD

  • You do realize this is not a really good comparision... Mini Cooper is a lot shorter, the engine is smaler so the whole car is lighter then the 1 series. However, the test proves that BMW has some damn good brakes.

  • Did you really have to use the friggin convertibles w/ automatic transmissions? Sweet... the worst performance of both of those models.

  • i was choosing between the Mini cooper S 2006 and the Mini Cooper S 2007 and i got the 2006 its smaller and more nimble

Mini's are getting bigger and bigger each year

  • @Bader88 They don't get bigger, that was the one major redesign of the car to make it comply with safety standards, which caused them to give it a taller hood and expand the dimensions a little. It's still one of the smallest cars on the road, and that isn't changing any time soon, with MINI saying they will not make a bigger car than the Countryman.

  • @Bader88 ...you do realize you bought the less reliable, and less powerful model yeah? The R56 (2007 upwards) is turbo charged too, unlike the R53 (pre 2007) which is supercharged.

  • @tristris90 i totally agree :P

  • @tristris90 That's not entirely true. I've had zero mechanical issues with my 06. If you are going to buy any vehicle it is almost always better to get a the newest of the old over the newest model. The bugs are generally worked out by then and reliability is usually at it's best. When they change things you have to deal with new issues.

  • It's too many people talking at the same time!!

  • I like this video because my husband owns a 2009 135i and I own a 2011 MCS so we laugh that this is us once we get our GoPro cameras haha :) nice comparison.

  • ihave a 2010 mustang gt sdtock in every posssible track set up race any bimmer would not get near

  • @hondacivicsi09 ya try my m3 and me and i will and then u would be lucky to get near me for a second

  • @hondacivicsi09

hahahaha how pathetic... my 128i would rape your piece of shit ford in handling around the track. american cars are only built for straight aways. I'm pretty sure ford still uses horse and buggy chasis for their mustangs lol. The only cars I know that are american and can handle somewhat decently are the cameros, the ford gt40, and the $120,000 corvette.

  • @scoopmaster69 check the vid for 2012 Mustang BOSS 302 you might learn something new.

  • @1006Will

SMD a mustand does not combine optimum performance, handling and fuel efficiency does it?

  • @scoopmaster69 the mustangs fuel efficiency is horrible. the minis is much better

  • I own a 2011 BMW 128i and it is the most amazing car I have ever owned.

  • @LoveTheCity123 - I just got mine last night. Cop stopped me for speeding, but didn't get a ticket, lol. It'd be a crime not to get this in stick shift.

  • Am I the only one who thinks the 1-Series is hideous?? -_-" I love the look of the Mini Cooper though, it's much better than the old BMW Mini...

  • darn it, wish they had a coupe and not a heavy convertible comparison :( :(

  • Same father, different sons...

  • i'd prefet the MINI, even if its yellow. the new shape bmw's are fucking ugly.all of them. the first series especially! i used to love bmw's, now i don't even look at them. P.S. for some very strange reason almost every BMW driver is a complete tosser! don't wanna offend anyone, just wanna understand why?

  • Give similar power, traction, and brakes to an original Mini Cooper, and we'll have a clear winner! ;-)

  • ITS OVER 9000!!!!

  • Holy looks like the PS7 with Infinity Definition optical cables.

  • could they make this video more boring wtf.

  • go mini!

  • Why anyone would buy either of these cars as convertibles is beyond me. They are slower and look faggy. For the price of a 128i convertible with automatic and navigation, you could get 135i sport package w/ a 6 speed manual. Convertibles are for chicks, not enthusiasts.

  • or enthusiasts looking for chicks? ;)

the 1 series is bullshit to me. with the added options, its totals about 32k and im like hell, might as well get a 335.

  • @pimp4lyf134 a 335 starts at over 40 and after its decently equip ends up well over 50k depending on options

  • @rootsmanuva82 i could not agree with u more! hate convertable cars.

  • @rootsmanuva82: what a lame attitude. Live by the beach and you'll understand convertible love a bit more.

  • red is ugly maybe if the beemer was black with a hard top it wouldent be ugly

  • I drive a 2010 BMW 128i and it is the best car I have ever driven. I would highly recommend it to ANYONE.

  • I like Mini CooperS

  • how u getta job like that!?!?

  • whats the best mini co0per model?!

    (....o6.07.o8.09?!)

  • mini's past 07 are good. I'd avoid the 06.

  • its actually more avoid 02, and 03. 05 and 06 got a revision/update which makes them actually pretty good, especially value for money since they will cost a lot less than 07+

  • you clearly havnt driven the old ones, as some ppl will quote they are actaully a bit better handing then the new generation MINI's

  • probably the newer the better as a whole, though they also cost a lot more though.

  • @012unknown12

The 2nd generation models (from 2007 onwards) have more modern engines with better fuel consumption and a tiny bit more power but the 1st generation models (2001-2006) have better steering.

The old Cooper S drank horrendous amounts of fuel but thats about the only down side of the first gen models.

  • eh how about the '90's model?!

  • @012unknown12

    That's a completely different car.

It's a car designed in the late 50s (!) kept in production for so long because it was an automotive icon.

I guess it's more fun to drive than the new BMW MINI but it's not a modern car. Reliability, practicality, comfort and safety are some things you won't find in an old Mini.

Great cars but they require some commitment and willingness to wield a spanner once in a while.

  • i'm buying my wife a red cooper for valentines day, i was a little disappointed that the 1 series wasn't more like a 2002 rwd 4banger for around 30k, i can hardly tell them apart from the 3 series

  • whaat? theyre half the size man

  • My Mini Clubman S -08 is the best car ever, it runs great and takes corners like nothingelse, (30mm lovered)

And if I had got a dollar for every longing look I got at my car I would not have to work a singel day for the rest of my life :)

  • clubman aint all that at all i duno what the hell your bousting about, its all about the classic normal MINI COOPER. with the S for a bit more fun

  • If Mini is made by BMW, this is like BMW vs. BMW!

  • yes both good cars, but,,, i have a 08 mini cooper s, and i can bet you that after a day like that at the track,,, you will be spending a few days at the dealers fixing it, my mini has 20,000 km, and it probibly spends 1 to 2 days at the shop every month, but its a fun car, dont be fooled by the fun test drive,

  • You must treat your MINI like shit or not know how to take care of it properly. My 09 Cooper S has been in the shop once and it was due to an intake manifold freeze up, which is a common issue on the Cooper S in Canada and the northern USA.

Mine drives great, runs 14.9's at the strip (stock) and gets me 45 mph on the highway doing 120 km/hr. No complaints here at all.

  • Both good cars, depends more on what you're after. I prefer the styling of the 1 series over the mini - see one in person before you decide.

And as always in these sorts of videos, the comments are more interesting than the video lol.

  • both those cars could seriously benefit from a sport package with stiffer springs (especially the mini) because they body roll too much.... and if they do have sport packages then wow... needs some work!

  • mini body roll too much? lol you don't know what you're talking about.

  • Mini doesn't have much body TO roll, right? Lol

  • Wrong. The MINI handles amazing without the sport package, even under hard driving. The sport package makes the car ride stiffer than a shopping cart, and barely increases overall handling. Not worth the extra money.

  • either you are from another planet, or are spoiled brat who buys pagani zondas with your spare change. Go drive one and then compare it to whatever it is you are driving, see if that will change your mind.

  • I was supposed to race a guy i work with, he has a 128 i have a cooper s. everyone think i'll get my butt handed to me. Now im definitely going to do it!!

  • Holy shit...higher skidpad, higher slalom, shorter braking distance...why buy a 128i over the MINI? Now, can we get a comparison between the 135i and MINI Works?

  • Holy sh!* in the race between the BMW product Vs. the BMW product the BMW product won!!!

  • Would take the Mini any day!!! The bimmer is but ugly and its not even faster than the Mini (okay, in a straight line it is, but only americans think about the straightway performance!). Allso the design in the interior is far much better in the Mini. Over and out!

  • Take an american to the alps and he props would die of shock of such a place existing (corners that is) lol

  • @Chingonshushu Look up "Tail of the Dragon" in North Carolina. I grew up not far from there. You'd be a fool to think a country as big as America with TWO distinctly different mountain ranges would not have a plethora of twisties.

  • @motomonstrosity yooo calm down it was writen in metaphorically.....nahh you dont say :S no YOU must be dumb for thinking a person does'nt know that america has twisty roads, erm cmon bit more sense mate.

  • where's the drag race :(

  • nice video

  • Actually you can't compare these two cars. It is not even in the same category or the same type at all!

  • Um, actually, you can totally compare these two cars. BMW makes the new Mini...it's just a BMW disguised as a go-kart! :-)

  • BTW U rock!

  • Not much of a test considering they are both bimmer... I do find it interesting however how closely they perform numbers wise when ones fwd and the other is rwd.

  • both braking is amazing

  • @lovinitson I would have wanted a little less feet since it does have the brake fade compensation and electronic brake distribution but overall, they both did amazing!

  • still like the mini better

  • R56 baby

  • that's an R57

  • do these cars share chassis

  • why the silent treatment

  • Damn.

The Mini is alot better than I thought.

Interesting comparison, considering BMW makes both of them.

  • Okay, I just wanna throw this out there. BMW makes some fantastic cars; they drive like nothing else, and I would know. I have an C.P.O. 328i, and every time I drive it [at speed limit ;)], it leaves a stupid little grin on my face and I want to keep on driving forever. No other car I've ever driven has done that for me, so unless you've owned a BMW and know what it's felt like to experience a finely balanced machine, don't hate on their owners just because a few act like dicks to others.

  • this video is like watching two ugly fat chicks in a foot race.

You dont want to watch. But you do.

  • wow cool!

  • whats the diff between 0-60 test with roll out and with out? why are the times so different?

  • WHATS ROLLOUT?

  • MINI Wins, only thing BMW wins is in acceleration, and some style

  • MINI FOREVER!!!!!

  • mini are very expensives ... shits

  • @audigiovanni and yet they have continued to top the list of vehicles that hold their value over the years. It sounds like a good investment tt me.

  • u wherent pushing the cars to its limit

  • MINI!

  • BMW!

  • hi well i just finished watching the video and i have to hand it to you it was alot of fun just watching it so good job

  • WoW, good performance BMW.

  • WoW i'm really surprised never thought the cooper would be that good. the cooper was better in every test except 0-60 which means it will win against the 128i on the track never expected that :D

  • COOPER!

  • Two cousins competing.

  • the Mini Cooper S would win on the track then with the results seen from these tests

  • true, not to mention the cooper's probably a lot easier to drive, much more comfortable and has better handling

  • the slalom proves that

  • The I28I is Fugly

  • the convertible looks pretty bad but i really like the coupe, the 135 looks waaaaay better though

  • looks like a pug nosed 3 series, sorry no offense to any 1-series fans out there

  • Thanks for the comments. We will be posting more track videos in the coming weeks.

  • Mini murdered it throught the slalom!

    That was unexpected.

  • Front wheel drive can accelerate earlier than rear wheel in the turns.

  • with it's all loving twin...understeer.

  • cooper

  • well, good video, but i think the old Cooper Supercharged, was much better in 0-60.

  • Is that a tiny bit of second gear wheel spin I hear comming from the BMW?

  • isn't that a good thing

  • there's no comparison. the bmw is rear wheel drive, the mini is front wheel drive. the mini is for people who want a fun city car, and the bmw is for motoring purists. however, motoring purists would save their money another few months, and get the 135i

  • Psssh a well equipped 135i is well over 40k. Comes very close to 48k fully-equippped.

  • i got my 135i up to 42k..

  • Yeah those things are expensive. Truly I would have bought a 370Z with the money, but 135i's are cool too.

  • dude why would you spend 48k on a 135i? i've equipped a 335i to $49,000, so why would you choose the 1 over the 3?

  • correct me if im wrong but the 335i is a sedan and the 135 is a coupe!

  • you can get the 335i in coupe form if you so choose.

  • Oh trust me I wouldn't.I'd rather buy a G37 or S5, BMW's are too common for me. Im very eccentric and that cars too common.

  • plus they are freaking ugly!!!

  • you're such an imbecile if you would buy an infiniti, which unlike lexus, is nothing more than rebadged versions from it's parent company. and the audi is too firm, and doesn't handle as well as the bmw. they're common for a reason you fool. while most other manufacturers simply can't be bothered figuring out when the ABS should cut in (and simply have them cut in at the slightest brake input) bmw's never cut in unless you really need it.

  • the 335i especially has one of the world's greatest engines. instead of simply sticking two large turbos onto the car, you get two small turbos, each one feeding 3 cylinders. this means there is no lag at all, and performance is linear. then, the bmw is easily the best handling car in its class. bmw tunes all their cars (including the x5) on the nurburgring, which means the suspension brakes and engine are tried and tested on the most formidable racetrack, and they are perfect.

  • they're called the ultimate driving machine for a reason. did it ever occur to you that the bmw is common because it's a very good car?

  • Where did I even incinuate that it wasn't a good car, you immature, fucking neanderthal. I don't care if its faster I don't want to look like everyone else and MOST people buy them simply because of the badge,NOT because of how it drives. You are VERY immature and I never disrespected yoou or insulted you. Your mind is overwhlmingly under developed so I will not waste my time talking to some E-Thug, who talks shit over the web.

  • you call me a moron? i'm not the one talking about buying an infiniti. you buy a car because it's good, not because your neighbor doesn't have one. it really pisses me off how people in america view cars as nothing more than a means of transport.

  • You're a fucking douchebag, taht's the number 2 reason why I'd never buy a BMW.

  • No I never called you a single name before you started insulting me simply for saying taht I wouldn't own one. I simply said I'd rather have a better looking more exclusive S5 than a BMW. I'd also have a G37 before owning one too. and the insults started flowing. You are the perfect example of why I wouldn't own one. "BMW owners are cocks"

  • that may be true, but they are still the best damned cars on sale today regardless of how the owners behave.

the infiniti is just a badly executed copy, nothing more.

  • Based on your opinion. Mustang owners believe the same thing, and so do Civic owners. I've driven them and I think you're all brainwashed. My brother has a 330i that me and my other brother has romped on, multiple times. We even went to the mountains and burned him even worse. I was in my VR-4 and my other brother was in his 350Z. You're like a delusional cult. Good, yes. Unbeatable or ultimate, not even close.

  • They are only better than cars that cost 10 grand less. Race a base C6 Vette in your 335i and I GUARANTEE you'll get dogged BAD! A 370Z is better in any MEASURABLE way than a 135i. it's quicker, faster and handles better, everythin else is subjective. An S5 vs. 335i is completely subjective, all based on opinion. The only cars that a BWM will win hands down with are cars that cost less, unless it's an M3, that's the only exclusion.

  • a c6 vette? yes, in a drag race, a bmw 335i would lose. but the vette's interior is made from tracing paper, and for god's sake, it runs on leafs springs! on the top gear lap board, for example, the corvette was beaten out by the SEDAN M3.

the 370z might be faster than a 135i, but i guarantee you it is not as fun or rewarding to drive. i mean, the 370z heels-and-toes for you!

  • first off, im just giong to point out that the ZR1 set the ring record with leaf springs, so why cant your european stuff do the same? second, having the car do all the work for you takes out all the fun of driving. its people like you that i hate talking to, that think they know what they are talking about when it comes to driving, because they have driven their moms automatic G37.

  • what are you talking about? i admit that i have never driven a g37 because i have no need to. it's just a counterfit copy of the 335i, that's all, yet they sell it at almost the same price. if you could buy a fake rolex from china town for the same price as a real rolex simply because it looks nicer, would you? it's basically the same principle.

and the zr1 isn't the same as the base corvette. i'm not sure if the zr1 runs on leafs springs, but it does have magnetic dampers.

  • They all have magnetic dampers and they all run on leaf springs.

  • more rewarding to drive, yet another completly subjective rebuddle. I can numerically prove that the 370's better and all you have is opinion. BMW's are neutered IMO. They are so easy. an AWD EVO has more rear slip angle. That's why even the EVO X was rated better by Motor Trend. It's a boring car. and the NA ones, may as well drive a Civic.

  • idk what you're talking about, the 335i and 135i are one of the most tail-happy bmw's ever made, but the evo is also tail happy.

and they're not anywhere near boring, the interior may be, but to drive they aren't.

and yes, it is a shame, but i agree. the north american model of any car is neutered.

  • its a FACT, it only allows for a 3 degree slip angle unless you puposefully push it to tail slide. They have the softest clutch I have ever felt! When I drove my brothers I was scared to rest my foot on the clutch pedal because it was so soft. Theres no "snick-snick" precision with the transmissions, they just kind of slide in gear. I shifted to second and I couldnt even feel it engage. The only time you hear them is wide-open throttle. They lack the rawness of say a Vette or Z. Way too soft.

  • @coolerdude44 Both the 335i and the 135i are great cars. In choosing the 135i, people are showing preference for less expensive, slightly faster, smaller and lighter, over the bigger, heavier and more attractive and more luxurious 3 series.

  • there is a big dif. in HP

    bmw: 230hp

    mini:160hp

  • from 2007 on the mini develops 175hp not 160. plus it use to develop 163 not 160hp.

  • which 1 series has the turbo?

  • 135i

  • not only...

  • 135i

  • 135i

  • 135i

  • +1 ;)

  • 136???? :)))

  • they are both bmws

  • mini is too girlish... i prefer the 1 series over this video

  • Whichever one you buy, BMW will get the cash!

  • So true haha

  • rear wheel drive.

  • Convertibles aren't meant for speed. The structure and body rigidity takes a hit plus most cars become up to 300 pounds heavier in vert form. This was a dumb test if u ask me.

  • forgot the mention that there is no sport package on the 128i so how can the handling be anywhere near great?

  • but its a bmw isnt it??? yeah sport package on any car will make it handle big deal

  • it's a dollar vs. dollar comparison, you add all of the packages and it will be WELL over 35k.

  • i think this convertible did an excellent job

  • bmw is extremely overpriced!! bmw is shit! like 30k for a new mini?!?!?!?! you can get a 2010 mustang v6 for like 24k with like 210hp

  • not everyone will want a V6 Ford Mustang.

  • the mini has the style factor plus made by bmw so it handles better, rides better, is a premium small car and will be much easier to use in a city.
