@mightydistinguished Yes, absolutely mightydisrespectful. That would leave all the room for wonderful normal neurotypicals as yourself who bring such joy, peace and encouragement to our hostile world. You betcha. Rock on.
To what do you attribute the progress he is making. He was on a supplement last I heard, and a new seizure med? Is there any thing else new you are doing?
@ckcarlson1 : First, progress is intermittent, until he stays on the same course, we can't say oh yes, this is it! Jamey was laughing hysterically a few days ago. He had a status epilepitus episode yesterday. He had self-abusive meltdown waiting for bath time last night and I had physically hold him to protect his head from fist punching.
@ckcarlson1 HENCE, no ONE drug is the answer for Jamey. Not 5-HTP, Not keppra, not lamictal, not depakote (the latest adjunct), etc....PROGRESS is a minute to minute, hour to hour, consistent continuity of care and implementation of mulitple strategies and pro active, acute interventions, plus DIET is critical. The wrong meal can cause stomach upset that triggers savage self injury. Constipation triggers seizures
@ckcarlson1 Jamey's meds are complex: Keppa causes vertigo. Lamictal can increase myoclonus. Depakote causes stomach pain that triggers SIB. So, I research how to counter this: Gingko Biloba can counter vertigo. Cal-Mag-Zinc counters myoclonic side efffects from lamictal. Aloe vera, pro-biotics help mitigate depakote side effects...
I guess the less "busy" PECS board didn't work? I mentioned to you that it is typical for autistic people to need less distraction with PECS than busy backgrounds. Everyone is an individual.
@christschool Actually, I agree with you. Since then, they are using a device that he taps with his hand that has a simple pic of food on it. I think the other was too distracting as well.
@kgaccount Doesn't this raise a question about the people charged with teaching and caring for autistic people to assume that a visually "busy" and what may be to us an attractive distraction would be overwhelming for an autistic person? This is so fundamental and the person that came up with this didn't have even a basic understanding of what has shown in studies to work? Not this person's fault but its the system's fault.
I can't believe there is another parent experiencing the same things I have. I've watched some of your videos and my son Howard is 9 and exhibits the same behaviors. We recently went through a rough patch for about 4 months, where he was self-abusive all day, most of the nights we would wake up in the way you described your son.
I would love to see someone pay attention to this in and out fading you are talking about. He often fades in and out where he is clear and focusing on you one min and the next seems to have uncontrollable actions with arms flailing about.
How about pray for autism removal of Jamey?
