Great video illustrating the destruction of the flood. As a native Cedar Rapidian that loves this city, it is so sad to see the historic locations damaged. Cedar Rapids will rise again, but will never be as it once was. Thank you for documenting this historic event.

The GTC may never be normal again. The main reason is because they were planning to move for months so they are thinking about not using the old GTC center for the city buses again.

Repairing and rebuilding is already well underway. Of course, there are still decisions to be made -- but I'm hoping they are made sooner rather than later. For instance, if the city decides that a residential area is too close to the river and should be razed, I hope they don't wait until the home owners have spent weeks cleaning up their property. Better to make that decision now.

As for the businesses, I think the larger ones will be fine. I worry about our small shops.

I hate to say this, but I live Iowa. Cedar Rapids Is just one of 6 counties. Including, Fort Dodge, Crawford, Carroll, Westside, Arcadia, and Coon Rapids. I cannot see why they focusing more on Hurricane Katrina, although that was bad, in 2005. We are people you know. I happened to be in Crawford County. We also had a tornado 2 weeks ago, and still picking up the damage. For pete sake this is deadly! Notice: A 8 year old wrote this.
