  • yeah bro found some tutorial on the traktor pro and i wet myself yesteday on how amazing traktor is some amazing sound im glad i upgraded torq program sucks scraching it 0 put just wondering is there more effects i can download to the traktor pro any ides ? effect pack ?

  • bro this stupid question but im new with traktor pro the new version how can i search my pc for tracks and load them with trakotr i want traktor to search for my music ?

  • @OUWATZAHLE08 Im' not sure I do get your question but as a guess: within the preferences you have to check the files management tab, then define three directories (traktor main directory/ itunes directory/ my music directory). Does that help?

  • u happen to have this mapping available?

i was using the djtt s4 mapping but its so incredibly buggy. this mapping looks fun.

  • Mate or anyone else, how much cash is S4,or how much all setup(Traktor p2,S4 laptop with recommended spec for that, etc) sepparetly prices pls and Im not interested before so Traktor works only on Mac(Apple) or works on Windows too,if works on both why everyone use Apple Mac,if somebody can explain and answer I appriciate and Tnx

  • Im a newbie but how do you set up effects on the FX knobs?

  • How do you change the LED behaviour? cool vid btw!

  • @PBowyer123 Thanks. The unit is on midi mode, the lights used are beat phase monitor output functions. The range of the output(s) has been divided between the button.

  • how do i post a link to another youtube video here???!? lol

  • Quik question, can you set up a "super knob/button" in midi mode to pull off an effect to fade out track and the switch back to HID mode quickly to adjust volumes? I hope im making sense...

Let me give you an example: Like to be able to pull this off in this vid here:

  • Comment removed

  • can you list the buttons from left to right and from down to up please?

after play in midi mode pressing shift browse can i go back to the normal setting? thanks!

  • @mariogayoso Yes it's just effects settings but there's no way I'm going to list them all here. As for midi mode, yes you press shift+ browse button to go to midi mode and then the same thing to back to normal.

  • Damn very nice.....are yuo sharing this mapp? :D

  • @StefanoMDJ nope it's a mapping I started but never really finished.

  • Damn good work there sir! I'm crossed between the S4 or S2 to keep my Maschine company. After your vid I think the flexibility of that combo would be ridiculous. If I may ask what's the 1st track/song you were playing? I'd like to hear that in it's raw state...it's sparked some sampling ideas.

  • @rOOk3mk I usually write the tracks in the video's description (lazy you ^^). But for for your convenience it's Kenny Larkin 'You are'.

    Thanks to you.

  • Hello, I know this will make me sound like a total amatuer but I am going to ask it anyway. why would you like to switch to MIDI mode if you have got everything up and running in usb mode and you are able to change the mapping at will? Thanks in advance!

  • @badfatherjames There's no silly question, no worries. I suppose you're thinking about HID mode (not 'usb'). I use the native mapping which is very 'straight', it was made to be used as it is and not changed really (of course I've twisted it). Using the midi mode allows you to have a blank canvas that you can fully create as a second layer. Also in HID mode you cant' set up faders and knobs as buttons meaning you can't have real super knobs engaging Fx on/off.

  • @Yul303 and "changing mapping" at "will" is just unrealistic when performing live. Not practical in this situation.

  • shift + browse button would get you into midi mode. Create a midi mapping to do what you want and use also the controller editor to set up the midi messages and channels on the S4.

  • How do i make this mapping so i can use this? i did shift and browse at the same time?

    THanks.

  • how do get into midi mode on the s4? i only know how to do it on my s2.... been trying to figure this out all day

  • @DJPabloco shift+browse button , you'll also have to set up the controls in the external controller editor for the channels and midi messages.

  • I hate to be cliche but....four people dont own a tracktor S4. you have no idea how grateful I am for you videos. you just made my life sir.

  • @klintruin Heloo and thanks for your nice comment. But you know it's more than ok for people to not like either the video, the sound, the style, whatever and hopefully because it will be dull if we all had the same tastes.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your message.

  • Dude i've gotta say you've been a big help man. Your really good and i would very much like it if you would keep on mixing. You talent is very much helpful and means alot. As a begining DJ i thrive off learning new and helpful tricks. Thank you very much dude!!!!!!!! Keep going strong!!!!!!!

  • @dj3651

Wow, thanks a lot for this very special comment, it is appreciated. What can I say apart thank YOU!!

  • @Yul303 No prob man. Keep on playing man!!!!

  • how do you do that movement around 2:18 ... ?? is that just a delay being chagned paramter wise?

  • @47ArabianKnights Hello, as far as I remember I don't think so as I only mapped one delay with only one set of parameters, what you hear may be a combo using either the beatmasher or gater and a flanger pulse set at 0% (in group mode) that causes the 'bubbles' type of sound (and with the delay). But I'm not sure.

  • Impressice you did a very creative job!

could you plz tell me the effect (combo) at 1:25?

  • @GermanTechnoBoy

Hello, as far as I remember that was a gater with flanger then just after with a filter92lfo. Thanks!

  • I play with these toys, but you fuckin rocking this shit. keep it up!

  • @LiCKERiSHmedia

Thanks, your comment keeps me motivated!

    Take care

  • wen aparato y wena musica!!!!! saludosss artista

  • Could you possibly share this mapping with us because I'm not good at mapping!

  • @JRyanVogel

    Hello, no, not available.

  • @Yul303 really that's to bad. can I ask why?

  • @JRyanVogel

Yes , it was a work in progress I didn't finish and didn't find the time to since then.

  • @Yul303 it would very much appreciated if you could find some time to show us how you do your mappin :)

  • This or the numark ns6?

  • @xlildeebomb13x

    Traktor or Itch? ;)

  • Can you connect the midi fighter or another midi controler to the S4 to use as a trigger, instead of remapping like this?

  • @Chirsbom Hello, yes you can use other controllers in conjunction with the S4. It would even be a better idea and more practical rather than adding additional layers of controls on the S4.

  • @Yul303 Thanx for your reply!

I am going to get this unit as i move from vinyl into the "modern" age with somewhat mixed feelings ;) But your videos have convinced me that this thing is just awsome, and can be used to a lot more than just sync and push play. Its the options of editing, chopping and tweaking stuff i am after.

But since i am not a wiz kid on mapping and things like this i was thinking of having an additional midicontroler as "hot buttons"

Keep up the good work! :)

  • @Chirsbom Just so you know, it's only a personal opinion, may be don't go into the full digital solution and get the best of both world that would be a DVS system so you keep using either your turntables and/or CDJs (and mixer).

  • @Chirsbom yeah

  • I Enjoyed

    ;)

  • thank you so much for your time, im sure its valuable. i said foget it and bought a midi fighter...

    keep postin dope vidz man!

  • @DavidDHolly No problem, you're welcome. You won't be disappointed by the midi fighter, it's a fun and nice piece of kit. And yes in the end sometimes an additional controller is still the best and most practical solution.

    Take care.

  • I spoke too soon. hopefully you can help me.

how in the world are you using your s4 as a midi? in my controller editor the s4 isn't even an option. im going thru and thru over and over the manual to no avail. please help me!

  • @DavidDHolly

It's probably somewhere in the manual, you may have missed it. Just press shift+ browse button, then the unit is in midi mode. Please note you'll probably have to use the controller editor (ie not the manager, the external software) to set up your controls as you want them to be. If you want to return to the normal mode, press once again shift + browse button. There's also an option in the controller editor so you can start the s4 in midi mode if that's a need.

    Take care.

  • i found it in the manual. keep up the ballin work

  • @DavidDHolly

Ok I think I didn't understand your question in the first place, my mistake. Cool you found that directly.

    Take care.

  • and how do i get the jog wheel to do effects instead of scratching. i dont like to scratch

  • how do i word it...

i see when you press the sample buttons/cue points effects happen.

also, what is your advice on getting the kind of music you mix. i dont know where to find it. i find it hard to mix like you b/c all i have is progressive house electro ect...

  • is there a link to show me how to preset fx's ect like ur setup

    ur good man

  • @DavidDHolly Hello, you mean like in the video's description?

  • i like ya style

  • great vid thanks for posting this !

  • @IC43

Thanks to you. I appreciate you took the time to write a comment.

    Take care.

  • can you say some of the fx's combos????

  • @MrRidisc

please have a look at the video's description, there's a link to a thread with some info on that.

  • no worrys my friends thanks ! =) oh and if u ever do get it setup sick and stable let me know ill try and do the same in the mean time mess around with it. but anyway man keep mixin and great vid

  • thats pretty sick how you set the browse mode on and had FX.... i would be very greatfull if u could provide me with the info on how to do it ! =) thank you

  • @DJpatsta No mysteries: I passed the unit in midi mode (shift+browse button). Previoulsy using the controller editor I set up the buttons as I wanted them to be and used the controller manager to create a mapping to call several fx presets and activate them by holding one or several buttons. In case, don't ask for a tsi, I don't have any to provide, it was a test and didn't work later on it. It's a still in progress "I'll do it one day" kind of project.

    Take care.

  • Hi can we use s4 as a external mixer?? thanks I am writing from Ecudor , please reply my question, i hope you can help me

  • @panteradj01 You can transform decks to live input or hook up turntables or cdjs and use the traktor scratch upgrade but, it is a controller, not a mixer.

  • Hi can we use s4 as a external mixer?? thanks I am writing from Ecudor , please reply my question

  • do you have a tutorial on how to setup the midi mode in your video I would love to have that setup

  • @Legrangemusic

Hello, nope didn't do it. You pass the s4 in midi mode, you set up the buttons in the controller editor to your liking , you create a midi mapping then with the controller manager. It's quite easy, once you chose a way to call a fx preset, all buttons are just mapped so they engage the fx(s) when held and set the parameters.

  • It would be great to use mappings form Midi Fighter like this. Instead of buying another equip, just limit mappings to three rows on S4 and use their brilliant programmed FX. Anyone?

  • hey could you hook a keyboard up to this thing anyone reply please.

  • @DJTableSkraps17

What type of keyboard? If you're thinking about the musical instrument, yes it can be set as a live input inside the software and connected to the hardware. If you're talking about the midi controller type, yes you can add generic midi controllers to the software too.

  • Very Cool ... I was wondering how you got color knobs then I decide to actually read your description. That is a really great idea I might have to steal it. I hate all the knobs looking the same.

  • do you think i can use the s4 with serato???!!!!

  • @happymarik

No and that would make no sense at all.

  • @happymarik

Serato doesn't have an internal mixer, right? So you'll need traktor to run to use the s4 anyway. And mapping wise you're going to be very very limited because of serato's limitations on this side. As I said, that makes no sense (to me at least).

  • @Yul303 aha couse i just got a job to do an opening for a club and my friend sais s4 looks ameratures and makes fun of people who use em at clubs lOL. Imma try hooking up traktor to cdj 800's

    thanks

  • hey buddy i just wanted to know how u got the mapping for your s4 like that ? i love it ! and want to do that to my S4 =)

  • @DJpatsta

Hello, the mapping was a test. I put a link inside the video's description to a thread at dj techtools where we talked about it. You'll have find the method there.

  • how do u get all the lights and sample lights flashing while spinning like that? is there something u have to do before u start?

  • @fealmor

Well yes in a sense as it's a custom mapping in midi mode so I just mapped the lights using beat phase monitor commands (with different ranges).

  • I love your music choise!

    LOVE IT!

  • @TheSjoholm

    Hey, thanks!

Kenny Larkin - You are (Planet E communications)

  • @Yul303

I'm thinking about buying Traktor S4, i have been dj:ing for a while but im far away from a pro, i still do my mistakes if u know what i mean. So i'm wondering, do you recomend Traktor S4 or is there still midi-kits that are cheaper and still very good?

  • @TheSjoholm

I'm no pro either you know so and be assured I do make mistakes too, it's not that an issue as long as you do correct them quickly - and that you don't cut the sound ;). The rest comes with practice and experience. Recording yourself is very useful too to learn.

  • Be also assured that I've heard a LOT of great artists doing mistakes too ^^. My point is that it's not all about technique hopefully, there's way more than that. I saw Sven Vath several times and I remember once during a party, he wasn't even mixing any more. He was just taking each vinyl after another, teasing us with the next and then 'bam', just dropped the needle on a killer of a track. And you know what, people didn't care because he created such a mood, we were having a great time.

  • @TheSjoholm

I cant' tell you that as it's really up to you. Would I recommend a S4 for a 'beginner', probably not. I would suggest to get a fine and solid 2 channels controller, learn with that and then may be upgrade later. But then, it's a good piece of kit (not perfect and with some issues) and so if you have the budget and if buying it pleases you, why the hell not? It's also heavily related to your software of choice. Anyway it's very difficult to give a complete answer here. Take care.

  • @Yul303 Okey, thanks alot Yul303. I will look around, but i still like Traktor S4 alot so i maybe buy one anyway haha

    Take care

  • was wondering": if you record in the loop recorder, can you then put the recorded loop into a sample deck? and if so ..how? thank you

  • @gmorkje

Hello, yes you can and answer is within the manual, there's a section called "transfering a recorded loop to a sample slot". Tip: check the index at 'loop recorder', it even gives you the page!!

    Amazing isn't it!!

Ok, kidding aside, if you don't find it, I'll tell you but then I'm sure you can find the answer by yourself.

  • whats that u do at the first 3 secs of the vid? why do DJs do that? touching the disc when the music is playing etc...

  • @fealmor

It's a bit specific here as I'm controlling a white noise kind of effect with the jogwheel so turning it increase its sound.

Usually however it's to nudge a bit the speed of one track so its matches the speed of the other track you are playing (and then adjust with the pitch fader). Just not in this case here.

  • @Yul303 couldn't u accomplish speed matching with the sych button?

  • @fealmor

Beatmatching? Yes you can or could but that's not something you can rely upon 100% of the time and there will be a lot of occasions where you'll need to beatmatch by ear anyway. As for knowing the exact speed, the sync feature is a tool, not that far different from looking at the exact speed of a track on a cdj or on a screen. A tool doesn't replace talent, skill, creativity or practice. It's cool to have it but there's no "I win" button.

  • @Yul303 okay... but how do u exactly do that? coz whenever i push that disk , yea the speed goes up but then it goes down again ? what exactly is going on?

  • @fealmor

Do you mean by using the outer part of the jogwheel? Yes of course the speed goes a bit up then goes back down to what it was. If you really need to change the speed of a track you have to use the pitch faders, nudging (is that the correct word in english?) is for small adjustments. Here's a very honest tip: if you don't really know about djing, buy 'djing for dummies' (I'm serious here), it's a very good book and I wish it existed when I started years ago.

  • banging music and sexy effects... this is way AMAZING!!

  • Have to ask you where u get the coloured knobs from, i want them too ;-p. Other people want to know this too. Soo people plz thumb up so everybody sees

  • @gerben2994

orange colored knobs come from djs face, faders are custom painted.

  • @gerben2994 He Tells you in the description: "The coloured faders were painted blue & white to match decks' colour code with some acrylic paint but comes originally from Djs face like the orange knobs used on all D/W knobs." I was wondering the same thing till I finally decide to read his description.

  • @BigDtheDJinNJ Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, I'm happy someone actually did read it!!!. Thanks to you.

  • @BigDtheDJinNJ thnx stupid of me :P

  • @gerben2994 Did you ever figure out the answer to this question!?

  • @JRyanVogel no kinda fucked up right!

  • @JRyanVogel The coloured faders were painted blue & white to match decks' colour code with some acrylic paint but comes originally from Djs face like the orange knobs used on all D/W knobs.

  • Mission Accomplished! As an owner of a modded (DJTechTools) VCI-100 SE, your demo has solidified my reasons for picking up an S4. My only hesitation was those jog wheels which I didn't like the feel of when I demo'd the S4 @ Guitar Center, but for all the other features... it's a winner. By the way I appreciate your demo with music for "grown-ups" instead of the usual cotton candy.

  • @write2kc

^^ thanks for the comment. Have you seen the Twitch controller from Novation, it's packed with quite a few fun features and could be the closest thing you could find to the VCI - well, ok, apart from the jogwheels of course.

    Take care.

  • It would be really awesome if you made some tutorial videos :)

  • @DJLeFTii

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take that as a compliment. However I'm not very good at it, and that would be really time consuming (not something I can afford right now). But who knows. Meanwhile, if that's not the case already, join the community at DJTechtools. You'll find plenty of ideas, help and inspiration there.

    Take care.

  • @Yul303 Yeah I'm on DJ TechTools and check on them often. S4 all the way :)

  • did you paint A & B channels volumens blue?

  • @juandaniellizarraga

as described within the video's description, the faders and knobs, yes.

  • S4 <3

    Well done, nice Show

  • @Chokololly

    Thxs.

  • @DJHILLIONAIRE

Yes those are only traktor's natives. They are a combination of chained FX and/or advanced ones.

I used the possibility to switch to midi mode to be able to play with those on the buttons, jogwheels and faders instead of the FX units' controls. There's a link inside the video's description to a thread at DJTT if you're interested. Have a look also at the latest video I uploaded.

Thanks a lot for your comment.

  • which knobs did you buy? from which controller because i went on djs-face and they dont have the traktor s4 knobs?

  • @alexiglesias24

Not specifically directed at you (but the thought sprung into my mind while I was reading) but is that because of internet that people tend to forget to say 'please' when asking questions? Or is it just plain bad manner? It happens to me too anyway ;)

Knobs are usually quite standard (but there are different standards). In this case those from Djs-face were supposed to fit Xone products.

    Hope it helps, take care.

  • GEEEZE I needa get me one of them s4's

  • Sounds good to me :)

  • @kdejaeger

^^ a bit of luck actually (at least one time, one of the button got stuck).

But, thanks, I appreciate your feedback.

  • a hell of a maping!!!!

  • This is a SICK warping of two songs man. You're really taking the S4 to it's potential. Fantastic.

  • How long do you think it'd personally take me to master a mixer?

I currently know the basics. I'd like to hopefully have a career out of this.

I'm familiar with the Traktor software, but i'm still trying to learn the ropes..

  • @HypnoticCyclone

There's no short and definitive answer to that. I've been mixing for 15 years roughly and I'm still learning. Note that it's not all about mastering a 'mixer' (whatever that means), you can be a great technician and suck when it comes to music selection. You can be the best and not be able to perform in front of an audience. How do you learn music culture? etc

Just be realistic with your expectations and work hard. In other words if you want more, you'll have to give more.

  • @Yul303 That was a good response. See, I view it as. You don't mix. You do what you know sounds good. And then practice and clean it up. Make it sound better and clean. And then test it out in the field. To me DJing is just having fun and doing what you love!

  • Good work, the presets you've chained up sound great together! Despite being an S4 owner I didn't realize it was pos to access midi mode without conflicting with the default map. So it's simply a case of shift + browse = midi mode? I just spent the last few days applying the latest midi fighter instant fx combo mapping to my X1, looks I'm going to getting busy with the control editor again

  • @djdubadutch

midi messages are only sent by the S4 when in midi mode, the rest is another communication protocol. So yes you just switch to midi with shift+browse (and use the controller editor accordingly). Have fun.

  • @Yul303 Have you figured out how to switch between the different midi pages on either deck? According to the Controller editor there's 4 layers of midi per aside, Deck A Basic, Deck A Shift, Deck C Basic and Deck D Shift. When in the controller editor you can just use a mouse to jump between pages but there doesn't seem to be any hardware controls to access the different layers?! I started a thread on TechTools and N.I. but know answer.

  • @djdubadutch

You can have a look within help->manual , it will give you some info on how the controller editor works BUT it isn't made specifically for the S4 so the explanations may fall short to be honest and something I, like you didn't fully grasp. Not a big deal as long as I can get 4 pages, one for each deck that's not an issue really (and I change manually the orange frame within the controller editor to set up everything).

  • @Yul303 Yeah I did have a dig through the manual before and couldn't find anything S4 related, which seems odd considering the manual features other NI controllers.

grrr, 4 layers of midi per a side and know obvious way to access them via the S4 hardware, so annoying!

  • @djdubadutch

It's probably something simple I'm sure that we didn't see but it is an issue only for setting up, not a problem to actual mapping right? if you plan on mapping let's say layer C, you just switch the orange frame accordingly as it will change the midi messages, not too much of a big deal don't you think? If you get the answer, let me know please or post it within your thread at DJTT, I'll be interested to hear about that. Thanks and take care.

  • ..Kenny Larkin - U R OriGinal...

  • that's quality mate// * * * * *

  • @markwhelan82

    thxs

  • I could not even get started with commands since you cannot see the embedded TSI all i need is a start to emulate the VCI 100 SE juggle mode. Are you sharing your great knowledge.

    Other than that great job.

  • @tarco69

I just switched to midi mode to be free of the embedded mapping and switch back when needed. When in midi mode you just have to map your effects settings however you like and see fit.

  • Sorry I should have been more precise in my thought: as you're using the embedded mapping and then switch to midi mode, the midi mode is free ie there are no controls that are taken by something right (apart from shift + browse mode) so you just have to open your controller manager, create a new generic midi device, open the related functions for your Fx settings, fill them in, set the button to engage the FX as an 'hold' type and you're done.
