@MissGreenAgain Right-o! This real commercial may have been Betty's inadvertent audition that got her the role of "Happy Homemaker" Sue Ann Nivens on the slightly-later-'70s Mary Tyler Moore Show ... where Betty spoofed this persona by laying the Know It All syrupy (yet sometimes snide) patronizing smugness on with a trowel! Great comic gifts.
Wow! I remember this commercial! Neat to see it again (I know I used Spray N Wash for years before SCJohnson came out with Shout!) Unfortunately, Spray N Wash is no more; Texize was purchased by Morton-Norwich International; Dow Chemical Company bought Spray N Wash in the 1980's, but spun off its oven cleaner, "scrubbing bubbles," and fantastik along with Spray and Wash to SCJohnson. Johnson sold that line to Reckitt Benckiser--which recently absorbed Spray N Wash into its Resolve line.
They should do a DVD release with stuff like Betty White bloopers, outtakes, episodes of shows like "Password", commercials like this, home movies, stuff like that.
I am just trying Spray and Wash for the very first time today, with the Power of Resolve. And I have to say, that the product is purely awesome! Leave it to "The Happy Homemaker" to promote a product as excellent as Spray and Wash.
Aside from it being a kick to see Betty White, it's interesting to note how "straight" commercials played it back then. Nowadays, they have to be gimmickey or (ostensibly) comical or overtly sexual or beat-you-over-the head obnoxious, but back then, they just talked about the product. This commercial consisted of Betty simply demonstrating how Spray and Wash worked.
Agree with the both of you! What happened to straight forward info on a product....with some nice easy jazz music in the background?
Now it's all rap/rock with flashing lights coupled with tons of camera panning, and at the end of the commercial (if you haven't gone into a seizure) you wonder WTH they were trying to selling?
so weird seeing her as a brunette 0_0

This was a few years before Betty officially was the Happy Homemaker. Actually, 1970 might have been the last year that she was a brunette!
