  • it's not Sarah Brightman...

  • @2009jaja RENT is more of an opera than phantom is.

  • Dibs on performing this for America's Got Talent

  • Michael looks nice in this. He got quite fat for a while though.

  • Lindossss

  • his virbrato was annoying...

  • As was mentioned, and a lot of people don't realize is that the composers and Andrew Lloyd Weber wrote this music to fit Sarah's voice.. IMO Sarah Brightman was the best Christine, I will go with both Ball and Crawford, they are both good. They both made great Phantoms.

  • I want to make love to him...that look at 1:53 sealed the deal for me. If only he wasn't in a committed relationship and lived in a totally different country, it would be on...Damn Les Miz 10th Anniversary. Ever since I saw it on DVD I've been obsessed with this man....he's perfect....

  • @LuvlyUnknown what a fantastic comment, and i hope all your dreams come true for you one day. i feel very similarly about Sarah, i think she's a stunner, and her voice sends me. xxx.

  • Michael BAll is Phantastic..although I´m devoted to Crawford´s performance :)

  • I really don't like sarah brightman, but michael ball is fantastic

  • Aaah...they are both so gorgeous and they sound like angels. Which 17 idiots disliked this? OMG the audacity! Well, I won't hold it against them, maybe they're just ignorant...

  • Ah! That was so beautiful! Especially the last part of it. :')

  • My favourite version. :)

  • *Sigh* Oh Michael Ball

  • HAHA his middle name is Ashley, Still an awesome singer tho

  • so moving. magnifico!

  • Michael Ball doesn't put enough emphasis on his ending consonants. And I just don't like Sarah Brightman. But cool version nonetheless .

  • that just makes me melt

  • The part of Christine was actually written FOR her by the composers and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

  • @Firestar345 Webber's ex-wife.

  • i loved his marius best!

  • @sehille4774 He's always Marius to me.

  • Amigos para siem ré

  • His vibrato sounds forced and awkward at times, and she has that awful habit of over-modifying the vowels in her upper register to sound more operatic/use head voice. YUCK!

  • a little overkill on the vibrato, but incredible nonetheless

  • @paramorexlove10194

That's weird - I was about to type in the same thing, almost word for word, when I saw your comment.

  • Michael is really fortunate to be performing here, but he's so talented it was an easy choice for ALW

  • Who else is totally jealous of Michael Ball right now? XD

  • @msshayxpear

I am too. Some guys get all the breaks. Of course, it helps to have some talent.

  • @jayseah32 Hahahaha. True!

  • Thank you god they did not put them in the movie ok there singing is good but it should stay as far away from opera as possible

  • @2009jaja You do know Phantom ISN'T an opera right? And Michael and Sarah are some of the best at singing these songs. The movie would have been 1000 times better with them than Gerry and Emily.

  • @06s091 absolutely agree...The movie would have been a real success if SArah and Michael had been part of the cast...

  • This is Class!!!!!

  • Shit I can't even finish watching it . Sorry but this shit is wack!

  • @lalakay3 Ok… :0? so who do you think sings it better then?

  • She is amazing as Christine, Im so glad this role was written for her :]

  • Beautiful and flowing I love it

  • Is she singing with or without the electronics?

  • Sarah is blind?

  • Oh my goodness, their big high "anywhere you go" was the most beautiful I've ever heard. UNBELIEVABLE!

  • there is no point trying to sound professional cuz YOUR NOT

  • @mattshplace Do you have any idea who Sarah Brightman is? The roll of Christine was written for her! You obviously don't know theatre OR music!!

  • @COBearchub

She is the ex-wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber who wrote "Phantom of The Opera."

  • @jayseah32

She's come a long way from her start as the lead dancer/singer in the raunchy (at least by the standards of 1978) group Hot Gossip singing "I lost my heart to a starship trooper" (it's on Youtube) to the grand dame of the West End and Broadway and Operatic Diva 33 years later.

    Multi-talented to say the least..

  • @COBearchub

For one thing Sarah is the ex-wife of Andrew Lloyd Webber composer of "Phantom of The Opera."

  • @mattshplace She played the roll in London for several years before playing it on Broadway for 10 years!!

  • @mattshplace Who are you reffering to? Who is it you don't think is a professional? If it's any of the two performers in this video - then you clearly don't know anything about how musical theatre should sound. They are amongst the best in the world!

  • Sarah acts out the lyrics and music of the song with her voice, eyes, facial and body expressiveness unlike other singers. She could've been a successful actress as well. Superb.....................................

  • WOW it's Marius! xD

  • strange she could get the words wrong as it was wrote for her too sing really

  • I think Sarah messes up the lyrics right from the start. Supposed to be "say you love me every waking moment"

  • @sk80soarus nah shes singing the old version not the one from the movie

  • en esa epoca michael ball estaba guapisimo.

  • at 01:52 Michael's reaction is so.....<3...God I keep hitting the repeat button since a week.....

  • SIMPLY DIVINE..................................

  • My 2 favourite singers singing tgt!! Such talent!!

TAKE THAT, POP SINGERS OF TODAY!!!

  • Michael Ball is one of my favorite singers - such volume and control -

  • lol tiny little cheesy peck on the lips

  • This is such an awesome duet. One of my favorite Phantom songs!

  • Fantastic. Also, I'm pretty sure 16 people just publicly proved they have zero taste in music.

  • The Phantom of the Opera is my dream role.

  • :O Michael's voice is absolutely phenomanal it's so powerful it could bloomin' knock you over!!

  • if you dont like it i think you might need to go get your ears checked because this is absolutely gorgeous

  • Oh Gawd ... I am always moved with intense emotions when I hear these two sing ... Sarah and Michael are by far my two favorite BW performers.

  • he has a nice voice but nowhere near as cultivated as hers.

  • 4:25 ... shivers! ... Sarah was the best Christine ever!!!

  • @torontothegood i prefer Emmy Rossum

  • "My words will warm and calm you"

ohhhh yes they will, Mr. Ball.

    yes they will.

  • Cuando sarah era hermosaa!

  • I can't believe how much different Sarah Brightman's voice sounds on this video that it did in the original recording. Still beautiful, but she seems to have lost a bit. Pity, as she her voice was one of the jewels of Musical Theater. I know voices fade as we get older, but I wasn't expecting it.

  • Some are saying that Michael Ball's and Sarah Brightman's voices doesn't compliment each other 100% and I kinda agree. But I still LOVE them singing together. I think they recording of "Seeing is Believing" from "Aspects of Love" is the best I've ever heard.

But back to "All I Ask of You" - my absolute favorite combination is Michael Ball and Rebecca Caine. Their version is simply something out of this world. Just watch it here on youtube and decide yourself.

  • @06s091

I am not a music expert, but I'm thinking that maybe their voices don't compliment each other that well because Sarahs' voice is more classical (if that is the right word for it) I find that Michaels' voice is less so.. I could imagine him singing a pop song for example, but I could never hear Sarah do that.. She doesn't have the voice for it. All in my opinion of course.

  • @lovemoody I don't know about Sarah but Michael doesn't have any formal voice training. I think he took his first and only voice lesson in 2004 before taking on the part of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables.

He sings just about anything; musical theatre, opera, operetta, pop, rock, country, swing, soul ect.

Sarah also sings everything from classical to pop, rock and new age.

  • Michael Ball is one of my favorite tenors of all time! Which is saying something because I have a lot of favorites! I wish I had a guy who could sing like that! I'd have him sing this song all the time!

  • @hansbmd20 He is absolutely FAB... I love his voice!

He isn't a tenor though... He is a high baritone. :)

  • Ohemgee....when he said "Nothing can harm you," I got chills up my spine.

  • god after all those years and both of them still got it o.o

  • Anyone who comments on Sarah's physique rather than recognizing her talent as a singer is not wired correctly! I suggest you get another lobotomy, apparently the 1st one wasn't enough! You want skinny untalented women there are plenty of them around in the pop song world!!!

  • As soon as Sarah started singing, I started crying.

  • @ElenaGabriella um mija that was 5 freaking months ago

  • So dreamy this Michael Ball!!! He can sing to me everynight for all I care. OMG in love...............

  • MARAVILHOSO me casei com essa musica e até hj me emociono com ela....

  • Its the little kiss at the end that iced it for me....

  • How charmmy! GOD!

    LOVE THEM!

  • When Phantom was playing in Manhattan about 20 years ago I saw it every night for about two weeks because it was so engaging. (different stars than the London performance, but the American stars were superb as well). I notice though that this is not a live performance. Am I right? They appear to be lip-syncing to the original recording.

  • @TheTubePortal Many Youtube Uploads have audio out of sync with the video.....................Not lip Synching.........You'll often see that on TV Shows like America's Got Talent...........The singing looks lip synched but the host Nick Cannon's speaking introductions are out of sync as well.

  • @TheTubePortal It IS a live performance! There can be slight delays in picture on youtube - so it can look lip-synced. I own the DVD, and there it matches perfectly. Besides I know Michael Ball's voice too well to be fooled into believing it was live if it wasn't. And the original recording doesn't include Michael Ball - he took over the role when the original Raoul(Steve Barton) reprised his role on Broadway.

  • Wow, Sarah is so beautiful, I could watch her sing forever.

  • I think if Michael Ball looked at me like that during a song, I wouldn't be able to sing.

  • @ABsensation If I had to watch Sarah Brightman during a song, a severe tent would be pitched the whole time...

  • 4:55 i wish i was Sarah :(

  • Everytime I watch this video all I can think of is the way Michael looks at

Sarah. What an engaging performance from the time he walks down the steps, the way he looks at her. You feel the meaning of everyword sung. One of my alltime favorite performances. Love both the voices and the performances. Bravo Michael & Sarah.

  • What's the name of this concert?

I wanna hear more of phantom of the opera from this concert!

  • R U 13 dislikers crazy???

  • Luv, luv this! its a perfect love song...

  • Me and my friend sang this as our duet for a recital we were in recently. It was such a wonderful experience. Sarah Brightman is amazing!!!!

  • Simplesmente divino... coisa mais linda de se ouvir.. amooo

  • Love him, but I agree his version is milder, great drama though.

    Lovely!

  • @wendy321

True. However, Nick Jonas sucks as Marius. XP

  • Just Simply Beautiful!!!

  • Michael Ball -3

  • Iconic performance

  • No words. Heaven.

  • Absolutely perfect. No, I'm not exaggerating.

  • @ChorusGirlVT the original lyrics were "All I ask is every waking moment", and it's still like that in some Phantom music books and karaoke CDs. Same thing with the POTO theme "Beneath the opera house I know he's there/He's with me on the stage he's everywhere" instead of "In sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came/that voice that calls to me and speaks my name." kinda cool to have options, but weird if you're not expecting it.

  • I love this kind of music!!!

  • Ahhhh!!!! It's Marius!!!! *swoons*

  • @hiccuprocks101 That's exactly what I said when I started watching this! I love me some Marius! :D

  • @hiccuprocks101 marius is swoon-worthy, really, but i think i swoon over enjolras more XD

  • Did she mess up the lyrics a bit in the beginning? Sounds like she said: "All I ask is every waking moment". Unless she's singing a different version the line goes "Say you love me every waking moment". Haha oops.

  • @ChorusGirlVT it is like that that was the wrong lyrics..

    yeeah you are totally irght!!!!

  • Omg! I saw this live years ago with my mom in England. Hearing Michael Ball sing live is beyond anything I can write here, unbelievable

  • I love, love Sarah Brightman and Michael Ball! It's my favorite song performed by two great talents! Brilliant!

  • ESTE DVD LO TENGO,... PERO QUE BUENO QUE ESTA EN YOUTUBE, LOS DVD Y CDS, SIEMPRE SE DAÑAN. O SE RAYAN O ALGO LES PASA,..... ESTA ES UNA CANCION PRECIOSA,..........NO SE LA PÌERDAN, DEL FANTASMA DE LA OPERA,.....

  • I was shouting at my screen soo much for them to kiss that if my parents were outside they would think be bonkers enough....then again my mum has walked in and found me yelling at my tv screen when I was watching the 2004 film.

So wanted them to kiss more, it's just so hand in hand with this song that you just have to kiss, kiss!!!

  • MIchael Ball has a voice comparable to other famous tenors.A PLUS,his killer smile and those adorable dimples,a yay yay!!!

  • @RebelComedyClub What luck. I've been looking for someone to sing all the male parts haha ;)

  • AMAZING, and think that i'll be sing this song at play in this year! wow i'm so excited and nervous too!

  • This is without a doubt the BEST performance of this song...Michael Ball & Sarah Brightman...cannot get any better (sorry Michael Crawford...you are great too but I LOVE this version better!)....

  • Michael is the perfect Marius and Raoul <3

  • both have such angelic voices and blend perfectly together.. when i was dating this one guy he sent this song to me, but a different version, it brought me to tears then and still does! such a beautiful piece :)

  • what the hell has her hips got to do with the music? I guess that spoiledkid999 must have a perfect body, but unfortunately blocked ears!!!

  • If I find a man who looks and sings just like Michael Ball, I would never let him go!!! Someone like Mr. Ball is rare and difficult for people to find.

  • @LuvlyUnknown I like his voice but im so dissapointed that this version didn't have the man doing the high G#, it just adds so much dramatic effect and makes the ending 10x more amazing

  • @LuvlyUnknown its beacause he's related to me :)

it runs in the family haha :)

  • @LuvlyUnknown I know precisely what you mean about michael ball!!! he is too good to be true!!

  • @LuvlyUnknown - for you it's Micheal Ball, it Sarah Brightman for me. He is exellent singer love like his style of music. At 51 yrs I still have lust for this gorgeous woman. Her voice just melts my heart.

  • @angelsunny8 Yeah, he was marius

  • Im not liking sarah much. Michael did a goo job though.

  • was Michael is les miserables?

  • @angelsunny8 Yes he was the original Marius.

  • Sara Is the Awesome !!!! this show is awesome lol

  • those seven dislikes are from ppl who don't know how to appreciate music. even if u don't like this song, seriously you gotta at least respect the ppl who sang it!!!

  • I added this to my favorites before he even opened his mouth.

  • Two of the best singing together!

  • @MrJORGERAMOS123 i think e must hav she refered to him as a soulmate not alot of people know that the role of Christine was writen for her she has a beautiful voice

  • michael ball wouldn't have to ask of me twice.

  • ANDREW LLOYD WEBBERS Most ROMANTIC MELODY EVER. He must have really loved Sarah to write a song like this.

  • Immortal love incarnated.

  • i still prefer emmy as christine.

  • johnnywalnuts ---> This is music...! this is TALENT. Thanks from Brasil

  • Blind mag has put on some weight

  • @kimbok101 This is actually from sometime in the 90s...Sarah Brightman did gain some weight at that point but if you look at her now (and as Blind Mag) you can see she looks AMAZING :)

  • @RinaBloom well thats good, good to know, thanks

  • @kimbok101 And putting on some weight is relevant to this performance? HOW?

  • @ElenaGabriella She is only like 10,000 times hotter than Emmy Rossum....she looks better big anyway...not that it matters.

  • @vmi3301

I'm not sure how any honest person could ever say that. Emmy Rossum is close to a perfect 10 physically. As talented as Sarah Brightman? Not even close. Sarah is 10 times the performer. But that doesn't make her "10,000 timers hotter" than Emmy.

  • @ElenaGabriella irrelevant to this performance, except maybe more depth to her tone, but she looks so much healthier and attractive like this....not that it matters....

  • I just love this song. Wonderful music.
