I too have caught my first wave at age 14, in New Smyrna Beach on the Atlantic side during a vacation. It was a great experience. I am going to live in Florida some day, and catch waves every chance I get. I can't stand to live away from the beach.
Respond to this video... venice fl,when it breaks everyone all over it!,after living in Nor cal, went back and some ass wanted to start a fight! too crowded for for the quality!!!
@TheAllaroundgamer Hey, that's great. I remember the first time I stood up on my board. I was 14, just like you. It was a great feeling. Go surfing as much as you can. You'll look back on these days as the best days of your life. Don't forget to protect your skin from the sun.
@newyorkkkful --i say yes and no. no because the majority of our surf is wind chop. the waves move faster, come at somewhat different angles, no timing like the sets in a swell and the rides are short. yes because the waves are smaller, shorebreak on SANDY beaches, ( you will appreciate this when your face is in it. ), a cumbersome wetsuit is not needed most of the time. i think it's good to learn here. learn to adapt. kelly slater & lisa anderson from here. BOTH world champs. ADAPT.
Definitely a fun place to surf. I was out there for one of the hurricanes in 2006 with my buddy who i worked with who just had his board custom painted of this pirate scene. Was an amazingly clean surfing day and we had a lot of fun.
awesome video. I live in Fort Myers and am just starting to surf. Would you mind telling me how often conditions are like this, and when is the best time of year? Thanks
pretty excellent waves. I saw briefly the town Cocoa Beach brought up. I grew up there and that is where I learned to surf. Kelly Slater also. The waves were rarely that nice though. Those are some nice breaking waves.
This is NICE!. Don't get down to south Florida much, but it looks like I might need to pack up the board and take a roadtrip. Nice smooth waves, non crowded beaches...paradise!
when was this. i would have killed, litterly, to be out there. i live in west palm bech and knee to waist chop is like gold to us. we are so desperate.
Wow! Even more cool that you told me where that was at.
I understand the apprehension at not wanting to give spots away but I, unlike I guess a lot of surfers understand the etiquette and never intentionally try and snake or cut off.

December 2007. Seems like it would be quicker for you to just drive up to Sebastian or Cocoa Beach than to come all the way over to the Gulf.

Finally a video with the natural sounds and not some repeatative indie-grindcore/alternative rock that is SO over used on vids like this.
Hrmmmm wonder where this was at? : )

South jetty, Venice, FL.
Yea, I usually just turn off the sound when they have that "music." Every once in a while someone does a nice job with the music.
