  • Queria saber qual o notebook que utilizam atualmente... Só sei que o SO é Mandriva..

  • 1:24 he does not like it lol

  • OLPC XO 150 dolars aprox. 300 reais

Classmate 400 dolars aprox. 800 reais

    comparando dois netbooks baratos

7 "7 Inch Mini Netbook / Notebook WIFI CE R$269,00

    Acer Aspire One D250-1185 R$800,00

  • Eu fikei sabendo q o OLPC é horrivel, alguem me fala se ja viu??

O teclado dele quebra facilll .. Não te concerto... Ele não tem disco rigido... E no HD cabe dez arquivos de Word...

Foram os boatos q ouvi... Alguem me ajuda por favor... Obrigado....

  • You ridiculed my comment saying the ClassMate was better.

Well, XO is a total failure. And that´s obvious now.

    Take care : D

  • I'm sorry but I think Intel only made such a laptop to try to "look better" against Advanced Micro Systems (AMD) with XO. As it was said before though. You do not need all that power especially when running Linux. Next is think of the power consumption needed for the extras on Intel's offering. You have many partners (Redhat, AMD, Google, and others) all who have worked and continue to work on the XO to make it work and be fun at the same time. Thats what kids need to learn.

  • I forgot to mention as well that the XO can run and/or charge with a solar panel which cost only $1.00.

  • only idiots will pick the classmate thats freaking 400 dollars

  • Classmate esta es estupido! hehe I think OX would be much better I also think that Linux would be easier to use... Also Linux is in just about every language possible known to man kind. Is Windows in every language?

  • Linux is better to this system, but the basics programs, word, powerpoint, celestia. I used linux, i dont like because is dificult to configure, windows is good because is easy to work and simple to install programs, use start button...

  • o ya the oplc has a bigger screen is water proof dirt proof and a 9yr could replace the mother broad with sum help and it is drop proof and the battery can be charged up 4000 times and it only costs 10$ to replace!!!! also the ox has a wi fi conection and can conect to other ox so if one is close to a city in like africa sum far off would get the acces to the wi fi its much better

  • Classmate also only has 256mb of ram not 512mb like the OLPC and no flash media slot.

  • and the ox is Much cheaper and you can get a program that allow you play old dos games on it..... also you can charge it with a solar panel!!

  • who would pay $250 more for a couple of bumped up specs and a shorter battery life!

  • ya i know its jesus lets see give them both to 2 kid in africa lets see the classmate would probably last less then a week when ox would last hmmm who Knows?!??!?!?!

  • Are people mentally retarded. They forgot to mention battery and laptop operation life. If i was there I would rip out the power cords on both laptops and then we'll see how long each would operate under 3rd world conditions. XO's 14-18 hour life vs Classmate's 1-2 hour life.

  • Bah wish I could edit the hours, correction: XO's 8 hour to 11 hours realistically Vs Classmate's 40 minutes to 1.3 hours.

  • lol im lucky, i live in massachusetts, imma get one for free

  • how¿

  • wtf? the olpc is $100 not $150.

  • the price of X0 laptop now is 180u$s

  • The comparison is not just the hardware but the software and the mission are rather different. Intel pretends to make a company out of schools by providing the software and they should use and should learn. While the OLPC uses the school as just the distribution hub of the laptop but the ultimate target is to give technology to kids. Giving free software, unlocking the potential of innovation.

  • Also they can see how the programs were made and make their own programs You cant do that with the classmate i say

  • Comparing the processor speed of the two machines is strictly missing the point. The real question is this: Do you want to run Windows XP apps, or do you want to read a web page in bright sunlight through a wireless mesh network when you're 5km from the nearest WAP?

  • Realistically, the classmate is going to be dog slow for Windows XP apps anyway - if you want apps that won't run on the XO, you probably want to spend $600 and get a full power traditional laptop. For the custom apps that have been designed for it, I'm sure the XO is plenty quick.

  • 2007´s standars for OLPC are 256 mb RAM, 1 Gb flash memory and 500 MHz AMD Geode procesor. Is not easy to compare those procesors. At the same clock, the AMD Duron was 50% faster than a Celeron M, but I´don´t kown about the Geode core. Anyway, the OLPC is oriented to very low power consumption. It´s screen is revolucionary in that sense.

  • I really think you got your facts messed up witht that celeron comparison.... what did you compare... or did someone... say from AMD do it for you? I could test a 5yr old Celron M against a new one and tell you that the new one was 300% faster... or against a duron and tell you it was also some # faster.. right?

  • Classmate PC Rocks..Go Intel GO

  • Intel pedagogy is a joke! Marketing guys training teatchers, educational softwares that sux. Really, really bad!

  • Damnit, I want an OLPC; Its small, light, looks fancy, sturdy, cheap, planned to last 10hours per charge -> perfect for university.

Tey build a pretty good security system against thefts in, I hope they let get everyone a hand on if he wants..

  • If you plan you understanding what where talking here, with your spanish classess, you´ll never understand... because we brazilians speak PORTUGUESE, not SPANISH, damnit....

Classmate is way better. Stop all the X0 lies.

  • Better in waste electric energy...

  • also its just a waste of money so what if it has more power its A refibushed laptop also

It only has like 43 minute battery life Off the cord also is the classmate Drop proof no water proof no Dirt proof no saves Energy no

Has free programs Probably not also does it

have the option to turn into a ebook? no

also the classmate Doesnt have wi-fi/mesh system Ya lets see more power or all of that^

    lets seee

  • intel classmate

    -screen too small..

    -bulky size

    -lcd no backlight?, can't rotate 180 degree...haha

    -USD 400?...

    yay.. OLPC win...

  • Yes. Intel Classmate is a good product, as Encore Mirabilis is, but, for children, OLPC is somewhat better.

  • you better watch it again...

the screen are about = (small screens=longer battery life)

bulky? still small but RUGGED for KIDS

cant rotate 180?? NOT important, what is important is:

INTEL: almost 2xProcessor speed +better processor architecture(not just speed, but other design specifications better than that low-grade olpc)

-2x RAM.. yes 256MB!! THAT alone is worth $150

    -1Gb storage...

what are they going to do w/ the OLPC?ITs slow, has low storage, and is fragile!

  • Time to update your XO spec:

    -AMD Geode LX 533

    -256 MB ram

    -1 GD storage

"the screen are about = (small screens=longer battery life)" You keep ignoring that OLPC screen is revolutiony . Larger and manage to only use a watt.

"cant rotate 180?? NOT important" It is important

"bulky? still small but RUGGED for KIDS" That is the point. OLPC was tested under the rain and survived.

  • so obviously if they raised their specs.. they too agreed they were weak... but since they had thought they had no competition, they were willing to give these kids crap.

  • While managing reducing further power consumption. What you deliberately omit is the XO is intendend for educational purpose that kids can use. The Classmate is not suitable for the task given the fact it is just a refibushed traditional laptop.

  • 180 degree rotation may not be a necessity but neither are those faster specs, especially for classrooms in poor countries. Anyways the OLPC doesn't need the extra power because it works fine with its own software. Fragile!? anything but fragile. The OLPC is water resistant, drop proof, dust proof, and readable in full daylight. All that with a 6 hour+ battery life. I doubt the classmate can do any of that.

  • also the monitor is bigger than the Classmate

  • To make their laptop, Intel cutdown on features until they reached their $400 mark. OLPC on the other hand, thought about the functionality they wanted and introduced innovative display and wireless features not found anywhere else. OLPC wins hands down. Intel should have known better...

  • this is not a toy... this is an educational machine, do not compare it by what color you like best, Clasmate is stronger, and will last longer because olpc will need to be upgraded next year when they realize its too weak!!!

  • Yet Classmate does not have the ability to be read under sunlight without backlit screen, consumes more energies because of its hardware specifications especiallly with the wifi and its procressor. The screen in XO machine is the revolution on itself because it consumes one watt in full color and 0.1 watt monochrome mode.

Both Classmate and XO have different purposes anyway.

  • if your going to complain about Intel's superior HW, theres not much i can say other than: why not use a pen and paper... low power, low cost and VERY portable... if you want better tech, you want Classmate, its that simple

  • Who cares about superior hardware where it is not designed to be energy efficients? You feel so insecure that Intel Classmate is inefficient overall for rural environment in term of power consumption you cannot even give a merit to the XO machine. Instead, you resort to a childish play.

  • why wouldn't you want Wifi? how are you supposed to go outside in the "sunlight" with out wifi and be connected?

you only need a backlight in the dark... and THAT consumes energy...

  • XO laptop does have Mesh Network that allow to connect to other XO with or without Wifi. Ever heard about school server?

  • That's the point, the OLPC is not too weak because it runs Linux instead of Windows BLOATware. I can run Linux apps on half the processor at twice the speed as Windows apps.

  • That's the point, you don't need a faster process when you're running Linux instead of Windows BLOATware. I can run Linux apps on half the processor, at twice the speed as Windows apps.

By the way, those Linux apps are FREE and in many cases more powerful than thet Windows apps I have to pay money for (compare the $500+ Windows Office Suite to the FREE OpenOffice Suite as an example).

  • man, you're changing the point here from this to your personal computer... Sure, Linux can run on less proccessing sometimes... but since most apps are home made and have some patching to do often... its not really the app to give to some kids to ensure a constant and easy flowing evironment. THis MSFT is not your windows either; it has been designed around Classmate.. BUT if you like Linux, classmate is ALSO available w/ Linux

  • If you think most Linux apps are homemade, you are misinformed. E.g., OpenOffice is written by Sun and improved through a huge community of users. An example of this method's superiority is a critical bug found in Excel last year that never occurred in OpenOffice (do a search for Excel bug to read about it).

Most MSFT apps are patched WAY more often than comparable Linux apps. Windows patches it without you knowing (which Linux distros can also do), but it doesn't mean it isn't being patched.

  • Also, though Classmate runs Linux, why would I get a Classmate when the OLPC is less money (WAY less right now with the two-for-one), utilizes superior technology (mesh network, innovative screen, less power consumption, etc. etc. etc.), is dedicated to educating students (unlike Intel, which is only in this space for profit), and is put out by a trailblazer who came up with this idea in the first place (unlike Intel, who is an also-ran playing catch-up)?

  • OLPC rules..."Sugar" user interface rules...this is just the beginning of something great!

  • megabiaahtes. awesome.

  • Calma, myknapik. A primeira leva é de testes...

  • A tela do brasileiro + o 'resto' do outro.

Pq a tela do outro é um coco.

  • erm... im not good at spanish... heres hoping my classes will help me, and soon (5billion years) i will understand this!

  • is portuguese, not spanish

damn, 400 bucks for the intel laptop... damn, i think it is more expensive because it has win xp... OLPC forever!
