So they recycled a few chords. You try writing fifteen albums and coming up with new chords. Besides, thats the style of the Cali. punk they were born into.
@Filmorethepreist Exactly. Songs evolve, it's not like they promote this song and the lie as different current songs. This song just became what is now the lie. It can take years to make a song into its final state, happens to me constantly
Normally Davethebrave makes some relatively dumb comments, but I agree with what he is trying to say. New America was a "poppy" album leaving something to be desired on a few tracks. People who are die hard "Suffer" or "No Control" fans probably cringe at some tunes. I am with Dave on this one. Half that album rocks hard, the other half not so much. And by the way, the song NEW AMERICA, is really terrible. All BR fans know that, even if they like the song.
What ever kind of music it is. Bad Religion are trying to express important messages that will pertain to the future. It is up to you as an individual if you take good advice or not. Only you can think for yourself I only hope it is not for shitty purposes.
What a closed minded life you must live, they've churned out album after album filled with politically challenging, mind engaging, angry, yet beautifully metaphoric and poetic content.
We all know they can write songs that are rich in melody and catchy and with a few songs they've shown this more prominently. Even if that's not your thing it takes nothing from their other more 'punk' songs. If something as insignificant as that puts you off you're NOT a BR fan.
"Even if that's not your thing it takes nothing from their other more 'punk' songs." wtf? of course it doesnt, i never even mentioned their more punk songs
"If something as insignificant as that puts you off you're NOT a BR fan. "
insignificant?
Well, to ME, a punk rock and Bad Religion fan, its defnitly not insifnificant if my favorite punk rock band ever puts out a record with more pop songs than they ever did and a record of which i dislike half of the songs.
the 3 songs there will be a way, the hopeless housewife and dont sell me short are definitly among my favorite BR songs EVER.
I just stated that i think new america and believe it are pop songs. for me there are just some of the worst BR songs on the new america - that has nothing to do with close minded and with their other albums of fantastic content.
Sorry man, I just get pissed off when people are so fickle, down talknig such a great bands because a few of the songs don't appeal to them.
Punk rock is a cool genre but to totally write something off because it crosses the strict restrictions set by punk rock is just closed minded and fickle.
yeah okay, but i think the "poppiness" (:-D) of the songs on new america are a problem, because theres too much of it and i really cant stand those songs.
it's kinda funny casue a lot of their b-sides are better than what they actually put on the album. Most likely they didn't have much choice or say in the mixing and production of their records when they were at atlantic. Still glad they went cause they would have gotten too big had they stayed with epitaph and that could have possibly destroyed them as a whole.
Bad religion has some really amazing b-sides and rare tracks. This one is off of an new america promo disc,Some other great b-sides include song's called MEDIOCRITY,NEWS FROM THE FRONT, SHATTERED FAITH,MARKOVIAN PROCESS,LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS,THE FAST LIFE,AND THEY HAVE A FEW MORE THEN THESE ONE'S
Lol, and it's probably one of the more punk driven songs from New America. I still have love for NA though. I like how it is more personal, but not completely as direct as American Lesion.
@DavetheFuckingBrave go to BR's website.... into the unknown .... LOOK FOR IT

both BR's poppy and punkier stuff. Give it up for The New America.

Wth! They used this song as a reference for "The Lie" off of Process of Belief! That's kinda cool

i personally think:
what is dumber than "dumb comments" about the OPINION (!!!) on the quality of some tracks or one album
is to rate down comments Oo' just because you dont share the opinion.
as i mentioned, i love half the songs on new america, dont sell me short is among my all time favorites.
but i think half the "way back die hard" hardcore bad religion fans would agree that songs like believe it and new america are crap.
but even if they didn't - its still just an opinion.

It was just different from their other albums that's all. It did a great job of commenting on 'the new america' which rose around the time.
I don't feel it was without soul at all, it has a lot of passion. It just isn't as awesome as STF ^^

its just that its totally NOT "down talking.." when i call a few (very bad) songs of them "pop songs"
for me the mentioned songs simply ARE pop songs and are the reason why the new america record isnt as popular as most of the other records.
DaveTheFuckingBrave 2 years ago
Well you gave me the impression that you were implying the songs weren't very good simply because they're pop.
BringBRToTheUK 2 years ago
