  • "WOO! That's a bad outFIT!" XD

  • noone will replace the real superman: chris

  • I DO STILL MISS CHRIS VERY MUCH THERE WILL NEVER EVER BE ANY ONE LIKE HI EVER !!! RIP CHRIS AND GOD SPEED MAD LOVE TO THE ONE AND ONLY SUPERMAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OFFEN IMATATEN BUT CANT BE DUPLACATED

  • Superman uses a puff of super breath to cushion the landing when he catches someone in mid-air. Don't you read the letters in DC Comics?

  • Hey folks. Why would the cops let all those people stand right in front of the building and the COPTER IS RIGHT ABOVE THEM! even when it falls ..they stand there. they will be crushed. they would have moved people 6 blocks away..not right below it even when it comes down..they are staring looking up. Also. Lois would have broken into a thousand pieces when she fell into supermans arms. Whats the diffrent. The ground or his arms. He should have follpwed and pulled her. So many mistakes :)

  • @jeffbebe6 Watch when Superman catches her...he starts grabbing her and brings her to a stop after slowing down 4 floors below. He's Superman...he knows his shit.

  • Lois gets played really well by Margo Kiddler

  • the voice of the pilot is Christopher Reeve...ground control is director Dick Donner

  • @ignoranceandwant Oops...other way around.

  • i think i was about 9 or 10 the fricking best moive god speed chris and rest in peace you will never be forgoten

  • You've got me? Who's got You?

  • Excelent video. Christopher is the best

  • The birth of the Superhero movies.

Christopher Reeve as Superman and Michael Keaton as Batman are still my 2 fav superhero movies of all time.

  • Why do I always choke up when watching this scene? lol

  • @enigmacsg ME too I always get choked up!

  • @jcjonas8 I know what you mean! its epic how even the music starts, slow at first "bum bum,,,,,bum bum" & how he gets changed!!! even though they are rebooting superman they never will make a better film then the first 2!!

  • Had I been superman I may have saved lois lane but I think I would'nt have bothered to stop the helicopter : karmic death for all the hyena below , crushed by the helicopter they were waiting to see fall . God how much I hate those blood craving audience. If you can't help get the f.... out of the scene .

  • @nedalnekbrad calm down....

  • Still the best movie ever made.

  • love it when he opens shirt and can c the symbol on his costume

  • 3:36 epic.

  • How can 4 slack jaw faggots not like this? You fucking knobs, Superman didn't wanna save your asses

  • Superman was having coffee the entire time, just waiting for the absolute most dramatic moment to make an entrance.

    Louis - HELLPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Superman - Checks watch

  • @orgasmicide2

    Richard Donner.

  • 3:46- 3:58

Epic moment of the film, but it's unlogical. Clark should know, that if trnasformes so obviously and opened, there's no way people wouldn't recognise him again!

Not even Donner was smart enough to create AN ADULT SUPERMAN-MOVIE!

  • There's only one superhero-figure in the comicbook-world, who is even more mighty, then Superman.

  • THE GREATEST SUPERHERO OF THEM....GOD BLESS YOU CHRISTOPHER REEVE.

  • I get tears too, my friend ;)

  • Superman:Easy Miss I Got You

Lois:You've Got Me Who's Got You

  • I did not know anything about Superman as a kid (maybe cuz I was a girl?), but this is the scene where I started watching it. I was amazed when he caught Lois, then when the helicopter started falling I was saying "Get out of the way!!!" But instead he caught it, with one hand...AND still flew it back up!....I was left speechless. Love this movie :)

  • I think the producers of Superman Returns should of used Reeves Costume, or something similar. Superman's colors were too dark in SR. They should of been Bright, like they were in the original. Supes colors should reflect bright colors for hope and a better or brighter tomorrow or future.

  • i still cry when he catches the helicopter. The song is so enspiring.

  • Man...when I was twelve and my dad took me to see this in the theater, I BELIEVED. TOTALLY! This scene still makes me smile broadly and makes me feel like that kid again!

  • I remember the original audio for this movie didn't have any "swooshing" sound effect when Superman flew, nor the weird boomerang sound fx with the revolving door, this crap was all added in the 2001 remaster. I prefer the original audio, which I think is sadly lost forever.

  • its one of those scenes you can watch again, just when the music kicks in when he reveals the s', amazing

  • vote up if you think that are world needs a superman to save it

  • Bring back the yellow symbol on the cape!!!

  • henry cavill and zach snyder are going to have to do something extraordinary in the next superman film to top this scene. best superman reveal scene! period!

  • Christopher Reeve+Richard Donner+John Williams=PERFECTION!

  • The ONE and ONLY Superman, Christopher Reeve!!!!:):):)

  • Goosebump City. Fantastic reveal to the public, one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

  • @ShaiyaStudios Yeah, In Goosebumps list this probably would be top 1, even surpassing Han Solo's arrival before the first Death Star explodes, in a personal close second. Anyone agrees?

  • For the new Superman movie, I hope Zach Snyder uses Supermans colors from this movie has a basis. I thought his costume in Superman Returns was too dark. Supermans colors should reflect a brighter tomorrow. Plus his belt should be on or above his hips, not below. SR's suit made his legs look too small.

  • I still wondering how Lois survived everyday before meet Superman; I mean, she is a disaster magnet!!

  • My mom was in love of Christopher Reeve... She used to get hysterical with his final smiles in the end of each movie (When he flies around the earth)

  • You've got me??But who's got you??? llllllolllllll

  • the most magical moment in cinematic history

  • I remember seeing this in theaters when i was a kid. When Superman saves Lois, the crowd in the theater was cheering along with the crowd on the screen. Great memories.

  • TEH BEST EVA!!!!

  • 4:28-4:33 LOL

  • Say, Jim, whoo! That's a bad outfit...whoo!

  • There will only ever be one Superman. RIP Christopher Reeve.

  • the best superman film ever

  • Easy, miss. I've got you.

  • @TampaRed "you've got me ? whos got you!!!!"

  • @DanSullivan129 "Hm."

  • Over 30yrs old and still one badass scene!

  • Superman is a messianic romantic figure, a brilliant invention of the human mind.

  • I love the look Clark gives the phone booth as he walks by, eying it up and down lol.

  • By FAR the best ever rescue scene of any movie involving Superman! Awesome, still makes me tingle!

  • I love that bit where he runs up to a phone booth, shakes his head, and goes to find another hiding place. Also the tip about flying being safe ;) In darker comic book storylines, I always like to think back to this movie and how Clark/Kal-El/Superman (who the hell is his truest identity anyway?) could just enjoy flying around like that.

Also, anyone who thinks the Clark Kent disguise is transparent just needs to see this movie — it's all in the mannerisms, people! Unrecognizable.

  • I was nine years old when my school took us on a field trip to the movies to see Superman: The Movie, for some reason I thought I heard Chris say "bye" at the end when he flies past the camera. I still watch the DVDs, on demand channels and listen for him to say bye...Rest In Peace Christopher Reeve, Bye.

  • The four people that didn't like this are the pimp and his hoes that didn't find out where "Jim" got that "bad outfit."

  • @prismagraphy roflmao!

  • @prismagraphy lmao :D

  • I love the part when lois lane is trying to get out and try to hold on while the helicopter is sinking. i love that yellow dress

  • The Man of Steel and The Dark Knight: THE defenders of Truth, Justice, and The American Way...

And The American wAy has gone off track in recent years, with the Bill O'Reillys and Keith Olbermanns sparring and jabbering, Democrats and Republicans blaning each other while the nation burns around them...looking for a hero...

    The answer is clear, America!

WE NEED MORE BATMAN AND SUPERMAN ON TV AND IN THE MOVIES!

We have Nolan's Batman, good start...let's get Superman flying again, too!

  • Best film ever

  • best comic book transistion , even reeves plays it tounge in cheek , beautiful film

  • HAS ANYONE NOTICED THAT THE VOICE THE PILOT IS TALKING TO IS CHRIS REEVES

  • The sence of power when the brass strikes up and that 'S' is revealed. Brilliant score and movie.

  • I watched this when I was just a teenager..... I just liked the humor in the movie, and Christopher Reeve got it just right, not too campy

  • Awesomeness :)

  • after this scene, the whole world got addicted to SUPERMAN movies!

  • I remember seeing this in the cinema when I was nine years old. Half the audience screamed when Lois fell, and then screamed again when the helicopter fell. Seeing Superman just casually reach out and grab it then carry on upwards... just an absolutely magical moment. The first time the movie really gave a hint of just how much power this character had.

  • @Parrotguy1999 I remember, even back then, his cheesy smile as he prepared to leave Lois; as if thinking to himself "yeah the fans are gonna love this..." And we did... :)

  • @Parrotguy1999 Right now I`m 55 yrs old, I`m built like a brick shithouse ( all natural ) and I`ve been told that I look as if in my late thirties - and it`s all down to Superman !. When I first saw him in the early 60`s I wanted sooo much to be like him, I can never BE him but at least I can keep myself fit and young and try to live up to HIS principles - and a man could do much, much worse !.

  • @serberious You're profile says you're 20, not 55.

  • @gothatway09 I never put accurate info on ANY profile that I put up, I think that there`s way too much info put up by people at the moment, ok, it may never be used by anyone in a bad way but I`d rather err on the side of caution. For instance, I never put my real name, age or location, I also use another e-mail specifically for Youtube replies as well.

  • @Parrotguy1999 My childhood consisted on watching Superman on Beta video once a week. I would pay a small fortune just to be able to be back in time and experience the same reaction from the audience at cinema. The last time I heard a crowd clapping was at the end of Jurassic Park 18 years ago. So sad... :(

  • @Parrotguy1999 : People are stupid. Of course, at the time, I was screaming, too. ;])

  • @Parrotguy1999 ha! i dont know how old i was when my dad took me to see supernan 4, when i saw "superman returns", it got me the most when i saw parents taking their kids to see it! i wouldv'e it to do the same someday!

  • i still get tears in my eyes

  • @MrJoe1888cfc I just did.

  • @MrJoe1888cfc me too LOL i still get tears!

  • "who are you?" "a friend".

  • The pimp's reaction cracks me up every single time.

  • Comment removed

  • @leafyutube me too! I was searching specifically for that.

  • @YooTubeo

If I was that pimp, and someone suddenly started flying like that, I'd shit my pants. LOL

  • @leafyutube I think I would too, but it seems to make the movie flow along, the characters were quick to break the ice with Superman. And if I were Superman, I'd probably say "are you going up?" to Lois. :)

  • I'm curious about who clicked "dislike".

  • Chris IS Superman...............forever.

  • Welli ve always noticed this but i never bothered to actually check but by pausing im actually right. At 4:20 i dont see the yellow s emblem, the shadow shouldn't be able to black it out completely, and i was gonna say that i couldnt see it at 4:21 but i can see it pop up at the corner. Again its just for fun :D

  • 4.01 is the best fucking take off you will ever see!! funny how a 1978 movie's take off scenes are still better than anything seen since. Superman returns barely gave us anything close to this.

  • After catching Louis he should of flew her down to the waiting ambulances for first aid. Instead he continues to flies up catching a helicopter on the way and dumps both on the top of the building and then flies off meaning that emergency services have to go all the way up in the lift. Catch Louis first and take to ambulance, then fly back and catch helicopter put gently in the already closed to traffic road take out pilot and give to ambulance then fly helicopter to 'Heli's R Us' for repair!

  • @TonyW1000 Well, it's "Lois," not "Louis." And maybe your idea would have been better ... :o)

  • Comment removed

  • Great character actresses like Margot Kidder and Karen Allen, we don't see these types anymore and it's a shame.

  • 3:35 I distinctly remember the audience's big laugh at this.

  • @kataisa3 I always liked the "Who's got YOU?!" line :D

  • I love this movie, and have watched it countless times, but I have to say that there are times that I just like watching this one scene. They really did such an amazing job of capturing the amazement people would feel if a flying man suddenly appeared and did something like this, and I never tire of seeing it.

  • if superman played mw2 he'd have sum great kill cams :)

  • Who are you? A friend. What are you? I'm Batman. I think like the former better,

  • the one and only superman

  • Great work!

  • Great scene.

  • "Easy, Miss...I've Got You!"

"You've Got ME? Who..Who's Got YOU?!"

That line and this rescue...the Best, Most Comic-Book-Classic Moment Ever!!!

    ^^X^^

  • Still the greatest superhero scene in film history. Bar none.

  • superman's curl in his hair looks like an "S"

  • fantastic :) god bless chriss xxx

  • I hope Reeve read this comments. It would be great for him to know, he is our hero even if he was in a wheelchair.

  • REEVE is the best Superman and the embodiment of the character. Still the best superhero movie followed by Batman.

Reeve and Keaton rule those roles in my opinion.

  • when i saw this on it's release at cinema the place was packed so much they had to bring out spare seats so people could sit in the aisles.it also made the 6 o clock news.a true blockbuster

  • I first saw this in the threatre, I was eight years old . Supermen catching that helecoptor was by far the kewlest thing I ever saw!!! Rock on, Superman!!!!

  • THERE WILL ONLY EVER BE ONE SUPERMAN CHRISTOPHER REEVE !!!! COULD WATCH THIS SCEANE OVER AND OVER THANKS

  • this scene is 10x better than the rescue scene in superman returns. this was done without any cgi , great work

  • I disagree strongly. this scene is an infinity times infinity times infinity times infinity times infinity times better Than SP returns scene!

  • @nbk5vb3 i cant. I mean its a great sequence for the 70's but if you think that they would ever release a film as slow as this to mainstream audiences of the 2000's then you need to know how the world works. With so much shit and other movies that you can watch that are fast pace this is considered a let down. Back then there were like 2 movies in the theaters, now you got so much resource to watch so many other things you need to make it stick out.....in the 70's it stuck out.

  • @nbk5vb3 Thats why i believe that in the present, audiences would prefer the plane sequence which was fast space and powerful as oppose to a somewhat slowed helicopter rescue with really no actual dramatic consequence other than Lois dying. And in this point in the movie we barely know her.

  • still one of the best superhero 'saves' in all the superhero movies...jawdropping then, and still is now

  • This ABSOLUTELY HAS to be the way Smallville handles the big reveal of Clark in the costume - it is classic - they even have to have the pimp say "SAY, JIM - THAT IS ONE BAD OUTFIT!!! - WOOOO!!!!"

  • Man he had a smile on him. What girl wouldn't want him. One of my top 10 favorite scenes from a movie. Dramatic, heroic, romantic, and just a touch of comedy with the perfect music. Pure genius.

  • @fifimsp true-a smile that could make you melt. Brandan routh tried, he just did not have the "it" factor that Reeve had

  • @mindylinky I agree. For me, Reeve will always be superman.

  • great scene the only thing ruined was when that guy said, "SAY JIM! That's a bad outfit! WOO!"

  • I remember the first time this movie aired on ABC in 1982. It aired over 2 nights because of the extra footage deleted from the theaterical cut. The movie was shown as a cliff hanger (no pun intended). The first part of the movie ended around 4:15.

  • @msmithstud Now that you mention it, I remember it being aired over more than one night. I can't recall if the cliffhanger was when Luthor had Superman chained up and thrown into the pool.

And by the way, what did the pimp mean by "bad outfit"? Did he mean that it was cool, or tacky?

  • @MrColuber i have a vhs copy of the ABC extended cut as it aired over 2 nights. The scene when lois falls from the helicopter was when the first part ended. On my tape, after she falls, the scene blacks out and the end credits come into play. The pimp was referring to ''cool''.

  • Thank YOU!

  • I remember this all to clearly..way back in 1983 when i was a teeny weeny nipper :)

  • bit cheesy but class!

  • "Say, Jim, that's a bad outFIT! Whoooo" love that guy. lol

  • Great scene, amazing movie... No other Superman will ever beat Chris Reeve!

  • He saved corporate property and a human life - WHOO HOO!!

  • Since i was a kid, everytime I have watched this, just made me wish that I could fly and be like Superman. And i know i am not alone

  • always like feel like i still a kid whene watchin it , nice

  • We never found out if the helecopter pilot was ok lol

  • CHRISTOPHER REEVE IS THE BEST SUPERMAN! MARGOT KIDDER IS THE BEST LOIS LANE!

  • The trumpets, the trumpets... 3:52 and again at 4:19... ahh.

  • Iconic.

  • You shed a tear because you're an idealist. And thats a good thing. We want to believe in pure good. It's what gives us hope.

by the way. It brings out a tear or two in me as well.

  • FOREVER SUPERMAN....

  • FOREVER SUPERMAN....

  • I still get chills when I watch this scene...so wonderfully done! Lump in my throat moment, even some 30+ years later!

  • christopher reeves is the perfect superman!

  • Anyone ever wonder how the helicopter pilot somehow knocked himself out with his own sleeves?

  • @Kandimann Perhaps he's narcaleptic? :)

  • @mahnarch That could partly explain the accident too. I haven't ran into very many narcaleptic helicopter pilots, but this is America, you can be what ever you want to be if you're willing to try hard.

  • @Kandimann

He smashed his head off the seat real hard, even a padded seat will hurt if you hit it hard enough.

  • @Kandimann hahaha

  • @Kandimann : I always assumed he hit his head on the door

  • @Kandimann I caught that, too. Hysterical!

  • @Kandimann I think he was shocked by a bolt of electricity.

  • At 4:46 my heart smiles :)

  • I will never, ever, ever grow tired of this scene. Seven minutes of sheer cinematic ecstasy.

I wouldn't even take the pimp out.

  • I did

  • This is one of my favorite scenes in the Superman series.

  • Who ARE you? A friend. And WHAT are you? I'm Batman. These 2 lines sorta reminded me of eachother. Both stll great though.

  • Alex, I saw it the second Friday of it's release. It was amazing. I can tell you that the shirt rip got cheers (First shirt rip on film). but the great thing was the last shot, after he flies off the roof of the Daily Planet and does the loop de loop. In the middle of that scene, when he first looks at the camera, before he and the camera loop de loops, almost everyone in the audience got up and gave a standing ovation. I saw it at the Waikiki 3, but I am told...

  • ...it was something that happened at most theaters during it's initial release. It was that moment where people who were watching it realized that the film team pulled it off, and Chris was Superman. Haven't seen it in a film after until the T-Rex eating the lawyer on the toilet in Jurassic Park, and I forgot, but a scene in Starship Troopers.

  • love it when Clark sees the telephone booth and realizes he can't change in it

  • @Chrshonore Classic "good grief" look on Clark's face at the phone booth....makes me smile every time.

  • I first saw this film over 25 years ago, and the first rescue scene make me shiver every time I watch it, an absolutely amazing motion picture.

  • Christopher Reeve was definately the best Superman, but what about the guy that did the flying and all the other stunts that made Chris look so good. His name was George Lane Cooper. He appeared in over 300 movies, uncredited for most, but he made the stars look great. He also appeared in Batman as Joker's goon carrying the boom-box.

  • black man: say jim that's a bad out fit

Superman: excuse me ( flies up in the air)

    black man: whoo

  • DC always has the best super hero movies. This is the greatest portrayal of Superman in movie history, nothing after has ever come close!!!!!!!!

  • God bless Chris! He will forever be the greatest Superman!

  • "You've got me! Who's got you"

Brings a smile to my face everytime I see it. As does Clark looking over the phonebooth for a second before deciding on another course of action. They don't make movies like these anymore.

  • "You've got me! Who's got you"

Brings a smile to my face everytime I see it. As does Clark looking over the phonebooth for a second before deciding on another course of action. They don't make movies like these anymore.

  • masterpiece, one of the best movies ever made and will never be regarded as such. Perfect cast, amazing acting, the best script and score outside of the godfather...shame...stupid critics
