love watching these clips but it saddens me at the same time knowing that they never really got their due. Limited one scene work and the fact that they left hollywood for Europe during their prime due to the racism is just sad. People that know the Nicholas Bros. know they were the best and people that look up the clips know that they were the best but time is slowly forgetting them. I just dont feel theirroutines are as romanticized into the moder pop culture the way they deserve
@Jazzmanchgo, Fayard eventually retired when he got old and he might of had some problems. Word was that it was always more work for Fayard, But Harold was still doing splits and dancing almost until the very end. Check out the challenge scene in the move Taps with Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr. A 68 year old Harold was still doing jumps and splits.
how do you watch something for 40 years, and it still stops your heart? when you know you are seeing the best that you will EVER see, and best of all you are looking at YOURSELF, for this is what it meant, and means to be black. Lawd, aint it beautiful?
The perfect mix of the Dells song "Run For Cover" is oh so appropriate for this clip!! Oftimes a Blackman had to laugh to keep from bursting into tears!! The talented Nicholas Brothers! Elegant, Acrobatic, Well versed!!!
@amensupremera - these lads are pure MAGIC - stick them on any dance floor not a single person could match them !!!!!! jesus wish i could match their moves * AMAZING *
the footage from another movie they featured in called "down mexico way" is astonishing in that it shows Fayard, the elder brother doing the splits holding an outstretched handkerchief between his hands ,he then slides his legs together, coming up to a standing position and takes both feet through the loop of his arms and hanky ,landing in splits with his arms now behind his back, then repeats the same move in reverse, jumping back through and over his manmade barrier and lands in splits again!
Does anyone know where this is from, a movie or another show and the name. I would like to see it in the original form. Your reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
FINALLY, I've been looking for this sequence for I cant even tell you how long - when they run up the wall and land from a somersault to a split. I'm a huge fan of the Nicholas Bros, I did a compliation of their dances on my page as well - this one is excellent, docludi! Great job!
Buckets full of cod liver oil and glucosemine tabs,I think not! not in their day.Wonder if they suffered from athritis in old age?The suppleness incredible!Would love to read an autobiography or any other imfo.Just amazing guys.
I think I heard that Fayard had his hips replaced but that was later in life. His brother was in the movie Taps and was still tapping and doing splits in his 60's!
So all I have to do is learn this routine and every northern soul dance comp will be mine for the taking. NOT!!! Absolutly bang on great track and a great dance routine. Thanks for postingxx
If there was a world cup for dancers . these two boys would have been the undisputed champs. Awesome! The track and the dance sequences were made for each other. Excellent job! Really welldone for putting this together . Just love it.KTF G.
i first heard that record at the blue note club , in november 1966 , played by the ledgendary dj ROGER EAGLE .he would have been amazed to have seen a clip with the nicolas brothers , who fred astaire used to clock.

@amensupremera Correct me if I'm wrong -- but didn't they end up pretty severely disabled (ruined tendons in their legs) from all those splits?
