  • She sounds amazing but the video is not. Better then original from Ani.

  • A lot of artists just never get widespread attention...even if they are incredible talents.

...Joan Osborne didn't end up famous much either, or Des'ree.

    Both are incredible talents.

  • I agree bethany2781 I wish I had a time machine to travel back to th 90s Lets bring it back with one babydoll dress at a time lol. This cd was on constant repeat my Freshman year of college. Love it!

  • please take me back to the 90's!!!

  • Better than the origiinal. :)

  • @Edey02 nah

  • @Edey02 the original is awesome too but the melody and vocals work soooo well for alana..

  • im not sure why there all these bad comments. i bet you guys are just jealous!!! Good Job Hoey, you're great!

  • argh! I hate it! *clicks back on Ani Difranco!*

  • I love Alana's voice! I have this entire album, as well as the follow up, "Fortune Cookies". Shew is very underrated for her genre of music. I was so excited to hear her in the AT&T commercial singing "I am Free" a few years ago. What a beautiful and talented lady.

  • Too bad her flavor of hits only had 1. LOL

  • @bnegs521 yeah, it is too bad, but thats the business, she only made one pop song the rest were too jazzy...

  • @23broad But even this, her only hit, was a cover. Her talent did not lie in mainstream music you are right. But I would not blame the industry that she did not have the material to appeal to the masses.

  • @bnegs521 You may be right... her music is generally very personal and sometimes quirky... Probably not for everyone..

  • @23broad I would say that satement is exactly right.

  • simply Sucks. sorry

  • I'm not usually a big fan of covers, and I think Alana got some flack for covering this but I love her soulful remake of Ani's folk cover.

  • Both versions are great!

  • God help you if you are phoenix... and dare to rise up from the ash

  • thanks for the memories!!!!!! i am a poster girl with no poster great song!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love both versions of the song! Def will not/cannot argue with talent:

Alana & Ani are without a doubt both talented. <3 f

  • Ani Difranco wrote the song, but Alana Davis put it on the map i.e. got the air play. It doesn't take away from Ani's original, it's just a different interpretation. Ani would have had to give her permission to use the song, so I'm going to assume that deal was made. For those with all the hostility and negativity about this...I think you're missing the point. Artist's work with each other all the time...and share music...that's what happened here! I like Alana's best! To each his/her own!

  • P.s. Alana and Ani are friends, she didn't just snake the song from her... both versions are awesome and as different as the amazing artists singing them.

  • @getreelbereel88 You need to do your research. Ani and her manager THANKED ALANA FOR RELEASING THIS...and ALANA did not take ANY of the credit, not even for the parts she rewrote.

  • @23broad hey im juz sayin wat i think .no need jump bad ! congrats to her i juz dont like it it dosent capture the full meanig of the songs words to me.

  • @getreelbereel88 : you suck, in a great way moron.

  • @potatohead01 hey whoa wen fuck did you get convo!! i said everyone is open to there own comments ok a whole lotta ppl like ain difranco better and say this one sucks so go batter them ok!

  • i like ani diFranco better!

  • Incredible. I could listen to this tirelessly every day until the day I die.

  • I'm thinking FELICITY! x

  • WIN!!! 8^)

  • this song is a beautiful poem

  • Simply amazing. A pure, beautiful soul ... with the lyrics to match!

  • Beautiful song. Smooth and fluid voice. Her rendition of this song is my favorite. I can't stop listening to it.

  • i think im more fond of ani d's version.

  • I'm 32 Flavors and them some... I love this song.

  • Love, love, love this song! Beautiful singer! I have the Blame It On Me album and love the rest of the songs on it. Maybe she was Joss Stone's inspiration.

  • the black lisa loeb.

  • LUUUUUV HER! :)

  • 14 people are DEAF...

  • I'm kinda disturbed by her last verse..."Looking for truth, and there is none..."

  • @SparkMyWorld Truth can be an enigma, because in many cases there really is none. Take religious beliefs for example. One person's truth can be another person's lie.

  • I remember seeing Alana on the Rosie Odonnell show and she was so awesome. I said to myself, I need to go out and buy that CD. I loved it....the song CRAZY ,is just one of my all time favorite songs of all time. I lost track of her after her second CD but with all the crap out there today, I think I need to go find her again....

  • there's somethig cool bout the rockie chicks of the 90's there was a mgic in all of that age in music...

  • There are few women who can be attractive solely through their voices (not saying their other attributes aren't)....Martina Topley Birdy, Alicia Keyes, Stacy Epps and Alana Davis are absolute sirens imho.

  • Ani DiFranco's -original- version is much better! There are just somethings you cannot remake and this song is one of them!

  • @ShowStoppa2007 I respectfully disagree. Love Ani, but this is a more soulful version that sounds sooo much richer and lovely voice to match. DiFranco's is like hospital food (on this song) Alana's like the "seasoning" on it :)

  • wow she destroyed the song

  • @MusicGirl3181 You gotta be kidding LOL!! She made people "notice' the song! Her voice is rich and deep, more soulful, and musical arrangements. Ani herself said she liked Alana's version better!!!

  • @MusicGirl3181

Yeah she did the damn thing.

  • I was sad when she cut her hair really short. Like all her albums pretty much. Love her voice and would be a happy boy with girl like her.

  • My god, every time I watch this I fall in love with her over & over again.

  • Lovely! I always loved her delivery!

  • @Vilmita03 How retarted are you? Buy the music or find your warez yourself.

  • this is one of my faaavorite songs of all time. I remember being about 8 years old and my cousin and I would put this CD in and play this song oooover and oooover. singing in brushes as if they were microphones lol good times

  • This was one of my favorite songs when I started college.

  • i like this better with alana singing it....she does a good job and i can really relate to this song......

  • I love Alana's version of Ani's song. She did it a huge justice.

  • Big ANi D fan but I also like this version... Good job, Miss Alana!!!!

  • It's interesting how she becomes two facets of the same person engaged in a dialogue beginning at the part where it says "God help you if you are an ugly girl...." I think it gives the song an extra layer of meaning separate from DiFranco's version. In this way -- and the way she plays around with the chorus a little -- Davis makes it her own. Nice job.

  • Absolutely beautiful ode to a heavenly song--if i were Ani I would be smiling...

  • im so glad i found this video it brought back so many good good good memories , and not to mention the song is completely amazing and infectious

  • I aM 32 FlAvOrS, AnD ThEn SoMe ! I WaS BoRn ThaT WaY...If You Wish...taStE YoUr FAvORItE FlAvOrs........I WOn"T BiTe BAcK...UnLEsS AsKeD tO dO sO ~~

  • One of The best covers ever made in music history.. She did an amazing job on this one.

  • ani difranco wrote this song

  • me encanta sta cancion me recuerda los 90 =(

  • WOW she is sexy!!!!

  • This version is so modern and has a fresh take on the classic..this was the first version I heard.. I later listenedto the original and those others and this version just sticks with me

  • I wasn't expecting to like it either, as a die hard Ani fan, but Alana really took her own take on it and kinda made it a little bit her own. Me likey :)

  • Only the bravest souls cover an artist like Ani DiFranco succussfully. Alana: you nailed it!

  • I saw Ani in concert and she said of this version, "If I didn't want then to include the third verse I wouldn't have written it".

  • I prefer this version just because I love the chorus and the "taking my chances" part. But this song would be nothing without Ani's amazing lyrics.

  • The original is far superior, and what's up with adding a verse? No thank you. Ani does it and still does it best.

  • They're so different! I never thought I'd like an Ani cover but this is actually really well done!

  • I am 32 flavors and then some.. I love this song.. and feel it is very uplifting as well.. I heard it on 99X in Atlanta today.. and to brought back so many fond memories of my youth... Thanks for posting.... It is one of my old, new favorites..

  • Both songs are great and under-rated. Ani kills it, on the live version.

  • IAM 32 FLAVORS OF LOVE!!!!!!!!!

  • This is such an uplifting song

  • i like this one better than the original.... do you feel the same?

  • good tune....long live the 90s!!!!!!

  • this song is cool...

  • but she skipped my favorite verse... "Both my parents taught me about good will and I have done well by their names. Just the kindness I've lavished on strangers is more than I can explain. Still there's many who've turned out their porch lights just so I would think they're not home... and hid in the dark of their windows, 'til I passed and left them alone."

  • late 90s forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This version of 32 Flavors is like Jimmy Hendrix covering Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. Both versions are great but with different interpretations. Hey, at least it wasn't a bullshit sample of the song repeated over and over again to some bullshit beat....

  • @cochranexyz I couldn't agree more.

  • @cochranexyz amen to that--I love a well done cover where the artist takes it and makes it their own--Davis does it here and beautifully...I think it is a tribute to the artist who wrote it--a love letter...

  • @cochranexyz I concur...

  • @cochranexyz Oh you mean thing!!!! JK

  • i have 32 flavors...

  • I absolutely Love this Song!!!! Reminds me of Northern Michigan!!!

  • This song helps me understand women better :). Thank you, Alana Davis(though she may never read this)

  • Screw Alana. We went to see her here in Detroit at a free concert and she left the stage, pissed off after one song. We never found out what her problem was. Lovely voice, but I'll never go see her again.

  • wow

  • <3 this song, but i wished she would have kept the original lyrics and just sung them too cause i perfer her voice with this song.

  • The voice is so...SADE smooth

  • I like both versions. This one is very pop and fun to dance to! But Ani is a great songwriter and singer as well :-)

  • i like ani's song better biut i love this music and her hair

  • Are you kidding? Ani is not better at all.

Alana made this song good it was never a hit with Ani singing it.

  • Ani's is more poetic. just because something isnt a 'hit' and a million people dont flock towards it doesnt mean it not an amazing song

  • @TheAlice1865 I'm sorry, but Alana sounds more generic. Ani has a special tone, and she can pull off that special tone while adding amazing riffs and runs with her vocals WHILE playing the most difficult guitar you will ever hear.

  • One of the few songs that is actually way, WAY better than the original.

  • super grats 90's come back again!!

  • For me she hasn't gotten the point of the song by leaving several verses out. She has left out most of Ani's awesome poetry, so all she is really singing is 32 flavors again and again. She needs to add more of the original song, and I don't think the music is good either.

  • in fact that is EXACTLY what they are NOT about and in fact that is kind of the point of BOTH the songs...so it is pretty much pointLESS for you people to get all up in arms about which one you like best.

  • Alana changed up a few partssubtle changes in themselves but in the end they make it a song of it's own some parts of it are completely original and anyway it as a whole is really a different song..but kind of a sister song, a relative, if you willshe adds something very original and special of her ownani and alana are really not about that kind of competition in art or that kind of hate and dissonence..

  • hey it's not a competition...this song is basically an ode to ani's original masterpiece 32 flavors and ani in general...it's a complement in the highest sense, not a diss..but they are both 2 of the most beautiful songs in the world...alana adds something very original of her own ..it is not just a cover, while a good chunk of it is definitely taken directly from ani's 32 flavors which she penned herself music and lyrics

  • anyone know where to get the lyrics for this song? it's kinda hard to find

  • Awsome song !

  • This isn't bad but I still prefer Ani all the way.

  • I am sorry (not really), but this version is much better than the original...

  • I am sorry (not really), but this sucks. Listen to Ani's and get som quality.

  • Love this version of this song......rocks!!

  • i'm not ugly yet this song says what i can't

  • @groverx2 lol

  • i love disz song!

  • I wanted her beautiful curly hair for a long time I still do!

  • This song is old... is Ani Difranco the original or the cover?

  • timtorney Alana Davis made this a hit in 1997 but Ani Defranco wrote it, doesnt anyone ever google?

    Anyways awesome song

  • I can't stress enough two things:

    1) She guts the song of it's power by removing lyrics and reordering them.

    2) That being said, it's great that Ani let her cover the song AND supported her version and she does this version well, even though it lacks the power of the original.

    That's it.

  • Good observation...I appreciate that...

  • This song should be the basketball highlight song for Kevin Garnett. It fits perfectly!

  • me encanta la voz de alana.. sta cancion m despedia cada dia antes d partir al cole.. cuando mtv ponia musik d verdad

  • This is beautiful. Wow. I never heard of her. I'm so thankful to my Ras bredren.

    Jah Guide,

    Cinnamonslices

  • i meant jealousy is stupid!

  • "God help you if you are an ugly girl

Course too pretty is also your doom

Cause everyone harbors a secret hatred

For the prettiest girl in the room

God help you if you are a phoenix

And you dare to rise up from the ash

A thousand eyes will smolder with jealousy while

    You are just flying past."

    jealous is stupid!

  • nice song...she sounds like Sarah McLachlan

  • i absolutely love this song!!! its amazing!!!

  • I was 15 and on my way back from boarding school on a plane to Charlotte NC and I sat up front with Alana and her band. She said she was on her way to or on her way back from Lilith Fair(97) I think). She was so nice to me telling me all about her band. She didnt have to take the time to talk to me but she did. Im now 27 and love her music. What a cool chick.

  • awesome. you win,

  • what do you mean by she squirts?

  • So, you're asserting to the rest of the world that you are this woman's former lover and subsequently, you've decided to devulge the fact she squirts as nothing more than a sidenote on a Youtube posting....

    Did I get that correct?

  • yeah...I think I did.

You're a bottom feeder with no unique skill or value to add, so you prey on others...

  • Ahh, and there it is...

Wealth = value...'cause everyone knows the measure of a man's value is based upon his wealth...

    Good one, genius...ya' that's original.

    Never done before...

  • Why do you argue with so many people on You Tube? Really, if he says he had sex with her what business is it of yours? Alot of people had sex, hell even your parents! Nine months later, you came out of that horses ass and now you're trying to act holier than thou. It's okay if you've never had sex before, or at least know the joys of 2nd base. Apparently, you're better than this guy because you're still a virgin right?

  • hey alana!! are you biracial...looking good.

  • you know u are definitely an asshole to post some shit like that.....not cool dude...she is a personal friend of mine and i don't think it's cool for u to post your personal business on the net....

  • this song got me through a bunch of dumbass shit

  • Thanks to ani for the lyrics- great song.

Thanks to Alana for being a fan of it - great performance.

  • Alana Davis has a beautiful voice and is a brilliant songwriter. She covered a song. Big deal. It still sound great.

  • She wrote the song dumbass.

  • @soccerunites88 ... alana davis did not write this song!

  • u must b smokin some good cali green

  • Sorry dude alana's version is better than ani's

  • I agree! Kudos to Ani for crafting a perfect song, but the performance and production value on this cut are better than the other versions I've heard.

  • u suck

  • Comment removed

  • Thankyou aja!!!!! ive been looking this for a long long time!!!! finally

  • I've always enjoyed both versions for their differences. Musicwise, it's a pretty nice break, particularly with that half chorus "taking my chances as they come/searching for truth and there is none".

Although does anyone else think the video's concept was done much better in Eagle-Eye Cherry's "Save Tonight"?
