MAN!!! WHY CAN'T ARTISTS TODAY MAKE MUSIC ABOUT THE JOY OF BEING ALIVE, AND PARTYING? EVERYBODY'S A GANGSTER AND TRYING TO KILL SOMEONE. SUCH A SHAME.
Everytime i look at the Warhols prints he did for and of my Mother, i think of all the stories she use to tell me what went down in Studio 54, and i just think, god i wish i was old enough to live through that period
WOW MY CLUBS were studio 54, leviticas, paladium, bogarts, Platos'retreat (yup they had music there) roseland, silver shadow, red parrot, Xenon, Bentley's Broadway 96, Copa Cabana, Yes I was very busy in 70's, wow u don't see the word "discotheques" anymore cause they word is associated with disco. Well too bad, I am a 70's R&B/DISCO person and disco will always be here no matter what.
With all due respect to Tom, this is the "Walter Gibbons Mix". From Double Exposure, Love Committee, Bettye Lavette, and Loleatta Holloway, Walter was renowned for completely restructuring and rebuilding his song projects.
@hybridmoments1980 This version sounds like a shorter version of the 9 min+ which I think is the Tom Molton. Can you tell me what version this is at this link:
/watch?v=Xp00100RhQ8. If the link does not work the name of the video is "Double Exposure - My Love Is Free (Walter Gibbons mix) "
Yeah thats him, she said he was tall and with that cute blonde curly hair and smile, she danced with him a few times, from what she could remember before the drugs took affect lol
I remember my mother telling me one night in studio 54 this came on and she was dancing with the tall blonde haired guy from dukes of hazzard tv show, and she told him her love is free! LOL
Probably more than any other record this one puts me in mind of the Glory that was NYC in the late 70's and early 80's. I still LIVE for the memories of my nights at the Paradise Garage, but that incredible sound this joint tipifies was EVERYWHERE in NY back then, I don't think I stopped dancing for about six years straight! How could I (how could anyone?) when the music that surrounded us was this damn good!! To this day, my soul SOARS when I hear this record - thank you so much for posting!!
check out!!!! shake your groove thing upstairs at the grange bar darlington england !!!!!also every third with carlo and guests ,free entry early 8.00pm till late friendly crowd cheap drinks and carlo playing plenty of salsoul classics !!!!!!!! peace
If you like this, go to Denim located at Halsey & Bedford in Bed Stuy every thursday night. Early party, older crowd (of course), so get there by 10:30 PM, dance all night, you wont be sorry.
I still have the 45 of this song I bought back in the day. Paradise Garage was an invite from my cous and her husband who worked at WBLS. Free passes baby and we cut through a huge line to get in. My first and last viisit in 1981. My GOD what a place and the sound system was out of this world. Grace Jones came on at 4 or 5 am. What a show but the down side for me was the place was a juice bar so I had no drinks to get me in the mood so I had to pull on my inner self to enjoy the show.
The day after I heard this on WJPC (Chicago's greatest AM soul station) I went to the Zayre in Joliet and bought it. Probably for about four bucks! Haha. Still got the album too! "Everyman" is another great cut on that disc. I'll bet I was the only white kid in America that bought it, and probably the only 50 year old white guy to still have it. LOL. Great stuff from a much easier time.
My clubs: Ipanema's/Inferno's/The Funhouse/Roseland/One's/The Lofts/The Garage/Gotham's West/Bonds48, Casa Borinquen, Epoca, Chezsensual (another words, old school NYC) OUR LATIN THING!
@cehmagic And how could I forget Studio54, I went there in the early 80's though, I think like 80 or 81, they used to play that jam "Ring my bell" people lost their minds. I remember also waiting on line around the corner to get into Bonds 48, that was my spot, they used to jam that song by Eddie Grant, a classic! In short, I had too much fun, it was criminal, my ears are still ringing. Peace out!
You party at some of the same places with my sister, she love the Garage & the fun house. Told me about the time when Grace Jones was@ the Garage spiting on the crowd . When the Strikers {Body Music} tuned it out! I went to Roseland & 54. Aww miss those days in NYC.
"may u live 4ever, and me, 4ever minus a day, so that I will not know that nice people like u have passed away" Frankie Crocker. 54, Garage, reflections, Le cocu, buttermilk bottom, Pegasus,.........the list goes on, and on.
I wish someone would bring this music back on the radio. It would be great to really listen to excellent music for a change. These were the days of love and happiness. This world needs it right now. Talk about making people move, this music will make you dance all night long.

Double Amen, to that. This is music that stand the test of time. I am still rockin to this. The sound of Philly is something that can never be duplicated. It was and still is GREAT!!! I'm a new yorker and this music was apart of what made NYC special. Let's keep good music alive!!!!!
now this is music , today you do'nt see big groups anymore this group made some good music when they were around, my mother use to play this song a lot everytime i hear it i think of her.
IF EVER THERE WAS A PHILADELPHIA INTER NATIONAL RECORDS FAN IT HAS GOT TO BE ME..SALSOUL KNOCKS ME OUT..MFSB! HAVE MERCY!!.TOM MOULTON MAESTRO VINCENT MONTANA JR.LET THERE BE MUSIC!!..AND LET IT START WITH ME..GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES..RESPECTFULLY, DJ BILLYGEE...
Im from chicago n this is a jam. Check lowrell mellow mellow for sum chicago stuff my fellow groovers. The music in that time was awesome wish I could have enjoyed it wit u all I was born in 79 n I hate the music. U all sang about fun n love n mad black people look great we sing about drugs n killin n make our people seem hopeless.
@MrDeathdealer79: I agree sir...And you know? Only in Chicago can you hear our disco being played on any given night! No, not even NYC. Disco/DeepHouse is still alive in the Chi and believe me, the dancefloors be packed!
you're right...music of this calibre just ain't made anymore, but thankfully there is the likes of KISS-FM's Rhythm Revue (every Sunday from 12:00p to 5:00p or so on FM 98.7) AND once a month, most months, they (the DJ Felix Hernandez) hosts the Rhythm Revue dance at Roseland Ballroom on W. 52nd. Wepa!! And you'll NEVER believe the opening song on the webpage!! Google classic soul Felix Hernandez (since this site doesn't allow links)
I can vividly remember the first time I heard this tune. Tony Humphries at the Brixton Academy towards the end of 1988. It blew me away and has been one of my favourites ever since. Humphries was doing his magic and I was sure that he was playing the record backwards (maybe he was).
SOUND STAGE G DISCOTEQUE COCOA BEACH FL 1976-1980..WE HAD IT ALL OVER EVERY ONE ELSE..AND YOURS TRULY IN THE DJ BOOTH ROCKIN..WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM SOME OF MY OLD FANS..FIND OUT WHAT EVERYONE IS DOING THESE DAYS AND WHO,S STILL AROUND..XOXO BG..
its up to all of us to pass this amazing music on and keep it alive cuz commerical radio will never ever do it-i try to see the good side of youtube-that we can use it as a forum-and stop blaming this generation for not getting it-its our fault if they don't
I play this song every party I do and people become trance like. Dancing with their eyes closed and just vibing out great soulful song....Gives you the chills...
personally, i think if any of today's new artists out there tried to cover this song or attempt to make any kind of music like this, they would probably fail miserably. let this music stay in this era. please.
it's fun to make these little musical discoveries and i think every generation had something to offer. just so happens that the good stuff today is mostly underground and unappreciated.
also i'm sure i'm not the only 14 year old who likes this song or this genre
I'm impressed. You go. To be your age and know the analog era along with the digital. There is a sea of great music from those earlier years. I'm from that time. Check out one my friend,s record on my label Gherkin Records. OBAN1 instrumental remix a nod to this song.Peace
At the club On Stage in Freeport, NY in the 70's and who's appearing? None other than Double Exposure - what a show - this of course was before the drinking age was 21 - LOL - takes me back to my high school days.
We used to practice doin' our partner hustles to this song. It was great. It was another time - and the music was so free. Thank God for Salsoul and for TOM MOULTON.
Hustle dance hit, if you could hustle you could be with the most beautiful women in the club. Between NYC and Philadelphia there were so many great dancing clubs and there always beautiful women around, those were the days.
I was in East Orange NJ. I walked into a club called the Back Door not knowing that Double Exposure were performing that night. The joint was jumping.
I was in East Orange NJ. I walked into a club called the Back Door not knowing that Double Exposure were performing that night. The joint was jumping.
Those were the best years ever, the 70's and 80's, and at the Nickel Bar, Better Dayz, Paradise Garage, Melons, Bonds, Peter Rabbit. then we would go to Philly, for Club 21 and Catacombs, or drive down to DC for The Old Bachelor's Mill, or the infamous Clubhouse. Most of the big Club or Warehouses, you would pay a good price and there would be no liquor, go in and do your vice and strip down to bike pants and wear the dance floor out until the wee morning hours, drinking punch.
all about fun in chitown ,I can relate pure fun ,you could dance to 3 or 4 records straight, fun no bs,its amazing how music puts you right back there, you say what was I doing when this came out,who was I with pure ,happy feeelings.,thanks for eveybodies memories, good times.
In NYC,we would take a nap after work, cause we wouldnt be even heading out till midnight.Dancing all night, coming out after daylight drenced in sweat. We were fortunate to be part of all this great dance music.Hell,if i tried that now,id be recouperating for a week.
I am grateful and thankful that I was able to be apart of musik history for dancin going to clubs in NY & Jersey We balled danced all night and enjoyed life I would not have traded it for nothing in world
This music reminds of the days....,when you would have a cocktail or two while getting ready for the club. Baby once you stepped to the floor it was on for the evening, dancing to long plays... Come on all you GROWN FOLK from back in the day you know what I mean.. You would dace your ass off of three or four long plays then strut your self to the bar for a cocktail all the while not bracking a sweat. There was no fighting just folk having FFUN!!!!!!!
@tony6110 Amen to that! This is one of my all time favorite songs from that era, one note and I am at the Garage in 1980. But the sound is Pure Philly (my home), God the output from Philly back then staggers me. But NY embraced this sound like no place else. 2AM coming down the GC in the Bronx, heading out to the clubs, Timmy Regisford mixing this on BLS - I could hardly stop from pulling over and dancing right there. Still can't!
@njplr W-B-L-S FM! wow got chills reading your comment also have roots in the bronx (college ave) and south jersey / Philly. Used to remember riding to NY with my dad in the olds 98 and checking every five minutes when we got close to New Brunswick if I could switch to BLS lol I gusee that's why I ended up going to Rutgers. Best of both worlds if your antenna was good enough. :-)
i am the one a fault. i see you did mix the 12 inch my love is free. walter's mix of this song is on the "disco madness album" sorry about the mixup. but walter did mix this song(smile)
Youtube is a BLESSING to many of us music lovers because there are so many songs folks have posted on this sight. I have relived so many parts of my life listening to the many gems. This is one of them. 1977 I think is the year I bought the 45 of this record and always loved it. SALSOUL music is the best with Loletta Holloway, Jocelyn Brown, Double Exposure and of course First Choice. Some good songs from these folks and orchestra.
What happend to music like this?!! I m about to break this chair while typing and writing..50 years old n still got it...this song is bringing it all out!!!
DISCO was heaven! The devil stole the music, the sound and the soul from us all. The disco period was the time when real soulful music was being produced. It made your body move even if you don't to. Youtube has brought disco back to life! Thanks to all the Uploaders. KEEP DISCO ALIVE!!!
Tom check out my comments !!! i am still lame on tech stuff But my EARS are still among the Best TODAYS people need to be SCHOOLED each day... THE MELODY is the KEY ... MY theme song Nick Baby Love Salerno ... Godbless the memory of our Buddy JIMMY STUARD !!!!!!!! if dj's / Producers etc.only had A fucking Clue he went to M.i.T. & was the most Amazing Talent EVER...Nick
@mickeyjoepa OMG I am crying and I can't believe it. How can a song effect so strongly. It saddens me to think, this period when so many people white, black, brown, yellow, red and plaid; straight, gay, bi or eunuch would party together in unity - coming to an end under the thinly veiled racist edict "Disco Sucks".
@1146beaver This particular song gets me like that too. IDK maybe it's cause I DO remember how we ALL danced with such wild abandon on the floor whenever they played it. It was a glorious time, and I will forever be grateful to God for having put me in a Time and Place where I was able to live this...
@tommoulton This is Nick Baby Love Salerno !!! i will never forget u Tom for the class act you ARE ... the only name on the Trammps disco inferno L P is our close Friend ETC. Jimmy Stuard the Fucking MOST complete DJ/mixer in History... HE was THE First to Break 10 % / my Love is Free & countless others RESPECTFULLY, NICK NBLMUSIC@gmail.com
Good House Music memories from Chicago: The Warehouse, The Rialto, The Music Box, Jeffery Pub, Club La Ray, The Club House, Stop & Drink, Gallery 21, and all the other fabulous bars I forgot to mention!
man oh man .... do i remember this tune. We used to hustle our asses off to this song at the clubs in Manhattan. Clubs like Othellos, Levitticus, Pippins, Silver Shadow and LeMartinique. People used to party in those days till the early morning without fear of being robbed or shot. Those were truly "the good ole days">
@peaceman07651 yeesssss fab hustleing song we partied at the paridise garage, the loft, buttermilk bottom better days starship discovery 1 , the hollywood omg and dont fortget ten percent
went to Taboo in Hempstead Saturday night...they said Larry Lavan was there. Straight hour of classics like this ! Have'nt heard or danced to music lik this in a long time . Club Zans...club 88...the shelter..Red parrot ...2nd floor...New Speaks ...club cheata on sunday night ..
the last generation to love this music was the house gen(my gen) onest we are gone whos going to carry the torch for this music. i dj and still play this music out ,it works on the dance floor today as it ever did. but after 30 min you end up with a spoty teen asking for some simon cowal inspired junk. try to start a club night for this kind of music and most club managers say no or at least dont understand what your trying to do. there is so much life and soul in this music. forever salsoul.
it's Friday night and I am in Manhattan, New York City...the year is 2010; I am listening to this song and thinking "Damn, there is NO place in NY (or anywhere else for that matter) where this type of music is being produced anymore. I have to rely on YOU TUBE, memories and Old School radio stations; pity the current generation who have NO idea what REAL MUSIC is and has the power to do...
Thanks for posting....pardon me while I go into ecstasy....
@mydeeplove123 Man you sound like me. What a shame. You think music would get better but unfortunately it has degenerated into a something so pathetic that I can't even find the words to describe it.
@mydeeplove123 yes they do play this music in NYC. many of the dance schools that teach the hustle play this music. it's great because not only do you get to hear and dance it ,you also get to meet plenty of people with your taste. most Fridays, the schools have socials, so you get to show your moves with many partners. it's great, it's fun, and a hell of lot cheaper than going to these clubs here in the Big Apple. enroll and enjoy.
@mickeyjoepa ...I dropped this track 7:30AM deckside at Studio/Tru in Atlantic City back in the summer of 2005 going plate for plate with about 8 other DJ's and people literally propelled thier bodies to the next level; dancing, bouncing, singing, jumping, cheering, screaming, clapping, smiling; it was universal and pure bliss! Without a doubt one of the most memorable and spiritual moments I've ever had behind the decks. I am forever blessed and grateful for that.
hey do you remember the song from the 70's call
I keep praying for a miracle

you're right...music of this calibre just ain't made anymore, but thankfully there is the likes of KISS-FM's Rhythm Revue (every Sunday from 12:00p to 5:00p or so on FM 98.7) AND once a month, most months, they (the DJ Felix Hernandez) hosts the Rhythm Revue dance at Roseland Ballroom on W. 52nd.

I play this song every party I do and people become trance like. Dancing with their eyes closed and just vibing out great soulful song....Gives you the chills...
CISCO768 10 months ago
personally, i think if any of today's new artists out there tried to cover this song or attempt to make any kind of music like this, they would probably fail miserably. let this music stay in this era. please.
it's fun to make these little musical discoveries and i think every generation had something to offer. just so happens that the good stuff today is mostly underground and unappreciated.
also i'm sure i'm not the only 14 year old who likes this song or this genre

Those were the best years ever, the 70's and 80's, and at the Nickel Bar, Better Dayz, Paradise Garage, Melons, Bonds, Peter Rabbit. then we would go to Philly, for Club 21 and Catacombs, or drive down to DC for The Old Bachelor's Mill, or the infamous Clubhouse. Most of the big Club or Warehouses, you would pay a good price and there would be no liquor, go in and do your vice and strip down to bike pants and wear the dance floor out until the wee morning hours, drinking punch.

Still can't!
njplr 1 year ago 31
@njplr W-B-L-S FM! wow got chills reading your comment also have roots in the bronx (college ave) and south jersey / Philly. Used to remember riding to NY with my dad in the olds 98 and checking every five minutes when we got close to New Brunswick if I could switch to BLS lol I gusee that's why I ended up going to Rutgers. Best of both worlds if your antenna was good enough. :-)

@mickeyjoepa OMG I am crying and I can't believe it. How can a song effect so strongly. It saddens me to think, this period when so many people white, black, brown, yellow, red and plaid; straight, gay, bi or eunuch would party together in unity - coming to an end under the thinly veiled racist edict "Disco Sucks".

the last generation to love this music was the house gen(my gen) onest we are gone whos going to carry the torch for this music. i dj and still play this music out ,it works on the dance floor today as it ever did. but after 30 min you end up with a spoty teen asking for some simon cowal inspired junk. try to start a club night for this kind of music and most club managers say no or at least dont understand what your trying to do. there is so much life and soul in this music. forever salsoul.
