Okay, if this worked, great, but isn't there another type of therapy that won't be like torture for the cat? Just because its breed is supposedly a natural swimmer doesn't mean it enjoys the water, or at least that this one enjoys the water. Clearly it doesn't. It's obviously in distress & I find it painful to watch. Do the benefits outweigh the incredible stress the cat is being put through? Even if it's worth it in the end, I don't think this video does your business any favours.
People who deal with physio complain just like that cat. Because it's hard, and it does take effort. But when the effort pays off - it's worth it. I'm glad your boy is doing better now!
That's great that she overcame the paralysis. I know some people may not have read the info and were hating on the video because it is a bit painful to hear her meows...but in the end, it's only to help her, and saved her :)
People are so ignorant sometimes... hope you attack like that the real abusers... would you be aager to pay therapies like that for your pet if you were an abuser? come on people...healing processes are not enjoyable for neither animals or humans. Now the cat is totally healed, guess the water times were worth it!
most of the time, I would agree with the people saying this is mean. alot of the supposed "cat loves to swim" videos are like that. but this this one, they clearly are helping her heal. did you guys not read the description? her distressed meows are more likely to be just about the fact that he is using her legs which hurt, than anything specifically about the water.
@margotbigg obviously she's distressed she has a fucking paralyzed leg you dumbass. this is why they're giving her therapy to make her feel better. some people are so retarded
I work at an emergency vet clinic, and adopted a cat who had come in paralyzed on his left side, I massage his muscles, flip him every 3-6 hours(unless I'm sleeping) and I also have him trying to swim in the bath tub, and waking on his hind legs across a yoga mat. Please give me as much advice as possible to try and get him walking again, and in a state of self sufficiency.

I talked to owner few days ago and would like to put everybody’s mind at ease that Nazzanin has recovered 98% of her motoric / mobility and is almost as jolly and playful as ever. The alternative was to put her down which was unthinkable.
FYI, John (guy in the black cap) is a FANTASTIC, well-trained physical therapist, vet tech, and a huge animal lover. He helped swim our dog back to health after she suffered a bad sprain--and she lost weight, too.
I recommend this place highly if you are in the NYC/NJ/CT area.
@eriksk883 That's why I added the disclaimer of 'I know I'm gonna sound really stupid'. But I'm not complaining, I just don't like the sound. If only my cat and this cat would just shut up when they're in water, I'd feel... I don't know, less guilty or something. Heh.
I always thought that a Turkish Van would be a cool cat to have. This was also a very good idea to use this type of therapy as this cat probably feels more comfortable trying to move in the water after her injury since she's a swimming breed of cat.
@Turbo617 No, it's not, at all. Look up the bloody definition of animal abuse. Hydrotherapy is a wonderful form of rehabilitation, used for humans and animals alike.
@Turbo617 Get your facts straight before you make ignorant comments. This cat is a Turkish Van. That particular breed of cat is a natural swimmer and actually enjoys being in the water significantly more than other breeds. Secondly, they're not just randomly putting it in the water for the hell of it. This cat had been suffering from paralysis in her leg and were giving it hydrotherapy in order to teach her how to walk again, going through the motions in a safer environment than on dry land.
@bandgeek8986 Bull shit, van or no van is no important: the cat don't want stay on water and the bastard use the hands to take it on the water ,see it with attenction,it's only a ugly show for dorks...
@Ilovetobeyoung Actually it has, I'm happy to say. After nine sessions of the therapy, Nazzaning is almost back to normal and is now walking and running by herself around the hoyse.
I just chuckle at her cries because my Angora makes the same sound when I give her a bath. It's funny how melodramatic they get over a little water...
@yingerx it's supposed to help her. in fact it's much better than if she was on land. most likely they won't need to do it much more. most cats just don't like water, and well... tough. a lot of kids don't like water but it's for their own good to get clean, this is so she can get healthy.
@Pumacat101 Here is part of a small article about her:
"She was suffering from partial paralysis in her paw and couldn’t walk anymore. A neurologist at the hospital suggested hydrotherapy to help Nazzaning walk again. He explained, “Her muscles needed to learn how to move the correct way again, and because she’s partially buoyant in water, if she makes a mistake it’s much less severe than if she’s walking on dry land.”

Please have a look at my Turkkish Van Video. Although not ALL vans are equaly fond of water, most of them enjoy it.
Not All Vans are swimmers neither and about 50% of mine would do it willingly,.
The rest will play in shallow water and or show quite affection and facination with it.
