Snape's story is heartbreaking, but I love it that he eventually finds his right place in Harry's heart. "One of them was a Slytherin and probably the bravest man I ever knew", perfect line. He truly was an angel who just happened to fall at some point and then sacrificed his whole life to get up.

I am no expert. However, I think that what happened was this:

Snape is an angry person. Period. His only real friend is Lily. Otherwise, he's a loner, in Slytherin, in a politically turbulent time and studies the Dark Arts more than most people think prudent. He's a prime targert for recruiting. & even if he didn't want to, he would most likely toe the popular political line in his house. Lily, kind as she is or isn't, has watched him grow angrier and darker.

I also like to think that since Severus and Lily were in 7th year, and in love that they had to have had sex and that Severus got the last laugh on James. Harry is really his son b/c Harry has black hair, looks more like him than James (in the movie) and James had brown hair. Just my thoughts on sweet revenge for my dear Severus.

I hope they show this on the big screen someday. I couldn't wait for the HBP (Half-Blood Prince) so I read it, then I had to read the last one. I cried when Snape died. At first, in the first movie, we see him as Harry does--a sadistic bully (to Harry anyway), whom is cold and borderline evil.  But, it turned out there was more to him than one would think. I wish he didn't die, 'cause it turned out he was a good man. Plus, I hope they show his and Lily's past, and how close they were.

i agree completely. i for one think lilly severely overreacted, and that was what pushed him to joining the only others who ever even remotely understood him. James was a prick and i've hated him since i heard about him so he should have been punched in the face a few good times to see how Sev felt. I feel so bad for Sev and i bawled like a baby when he died. More than i ever have for a book character or book in general!

i know, i just talked to my friend and he thinks that james is an ok character! i went off and listed all of his horrible traits and it felt so good to bad mouth him. i didnt like sirius either as a student, he was worse than james. Rowling should write another book on the Marauders, one half from their veiw, one from Sev's! i would love it and love Sev even more (if possible)!

First off, he gave as good as he got. People kills me when they take shit about James or the Marauders, and don't back it up.

J.K clears all this stuff up interviews. That Sev, and James hate for each other had nothing to do with Lily until later. That sev dark arts love is what drove him and Lily apart not the mudblood comment. His love for the dark art is also what made James dislike him so much. That Lily always loved James even when she was being mean. She tells all this stuff + more

That Lily probably could have love Snape in a romantic way if he gave up the dark arts, but he didn't. J.K said that Lily only ever saw him as a friend, that she knew he liked her.
