Nah, I think it is his snare sound. The rhythm is : HSHSHSHSHS

and the only thing that sounds like a tempo keeper on that part is the snare. I think he is just hitting it differently in that part. If my drumming friend were here right now, he would definitely know, because you shouldn't hear a tempo block on a death song, because the death songs constantly change tempos and time signatures.

@Bassbait that or mayve it's an unwanted/wanted sound that a drum mic is picking up. But also knowing Richard Christy, heavily influenced by Neil Peart and jazz/off beat/unordinary type of playing, I'm wondering if he's using a pedal specifically for a tempo block. Latin drummers use these pedals but usually for a cowbell instead.

Maybe, but the the thing is that I don't hear anything that could be a tempo block besides the snare, and I don't have bad hearing. I think that it's either unintentional sound or his snare. But during a fast beat, he wouldn't use one. It would be preferred for a jazzy/off beat/unordinary segment of the song, not a mosh beat/double bass beat. Maybe more like in the song Story to Tell or A Moment of Clarity, but not here.

@Bassbait right, now that really listen to it, i'm thinking it might be a cymbol mic, because the sound seems to be riding along with his right hand, but... at 3:21-3:28 I hear quarter notes while hi hat is playing a 8th note pattern-ish snare is playing beats 1 &3, then again after that 2 sec.. break. If anyone knows what this mysterious sound is, please jump into this convo.. cause I wana find what this is..

@Bugattievl but i dont know. Do you or anyone else hear that sound?. It's not constant throughout the song though. It sounds like a hearing riffle being shot form a far distance away, or a C natural in concert pitch. OR.... maybe the hi hat cymbol is hitting against the snare mic, thus; creating a resonant/feedback sound without hiting the snare, I think that happend to me once...

@Bassbait also note that "tempo blocks" are not used to just keep tempo, like in marching bands ect... they're used musically too and come in various sizes and pitches, just like cowbells. The name just comes from them being used to keep tempo in marching bands ect...
