  • this is soo awesome!!! :O im really surprised tbh, cause zeitgeist blew, and this is from the same sessions

  • This is amazing need a version on my ipod

  • billy looks like an epic game character...maybe ff or a gerudo or something....plus the song breakdown at 5:40 sounds like it could be a sweet game music

  • i love gossamer, but god did uli john roth just butcher the shit out of this. jesus super christ.

  • @jfpisciotta Uli Jon Roth is an absolute God!!! Billy Corgan only wishes he was half the player Mr. Roth is; and I am sure Corgan himself will tell you this!!

  • I want a goddamn studio version of this!!! Dammit! :_(

  • this is his genius, this is my favorite song out of all his new stuff,,,,,,

  • i too love the original pumpkins and hate zeitgeist..but this song stomps anything they ever did in the 90s.

teargarden is equal if not better than mellon collie

uli jon roth ruins this song. boo!

    SP FOREVER

  • umagresi banda

  • epic

  • s.p is cool

  • S.P IS BEST FROM 90's

  • Uli is a great guitar player period! I did work for him and every time I met him were talking about guitars. Hes one of the last big guitar heroes! Finally it brought him up on stage with the SP. Also I really like the way Corgan plays his instrument. His

Feeling is great like every other in that line up! I like the bass player Lady, yam yam

  • Hammergeil. Spitzenmässiges Gitarrensolo.

  • ULI JON ROTH IS FKING AMAZING he was incredible with the scorpions and was great solo, this is fking sick though

  • Why is everyone hating on uli?

  • What a rewarding discovery! This is the real Pumpkins rock experience.

  • is ginger there? i dont see her

  • One of the best songs,

according to what I have heard...

    I love it

  • I love it. That hippie guy is ruining the song! That hippie guy was the prototype for Yngwie Malmsteen (try looking up the Scorpions song Sails of Charon from '77 or Vivaldi's Four Seasons), yet plays with a ton of soul even at speed. It may be a fair analysis to say that he doesn't fit with this song, but saying he sucks is pretty idiotic. BC could practice for years and never be able to play anything close to him.

  • I hate when people say people who play more Blues style are better because they're expressive in a different way than rock players. Billy's ability to put emotion into music is amazing for how unconventional it is, in my opinion, and while Uli John Roth is a great player as well, to try to make a comparison of the two just weakens both artists. I know a lot of times thats the easy way out of a real discussion about talent, but with these 2 artists that's really how I feel.

  • i agree

  • man the guys on stage have nothing to do with what things sound like to the audience. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. the sound engineers mix everything from a board out in the crowd or in a booth. the artists are there to perform, not to be engineers.

You can bet that the sound engineers were freakin ecstatic to have a guy like Roth play a gig with SP.... . and the guys in the band, if you could listen to them I bet they said CRANK ULI'S MIKE LOUD HE'S A HERO OF MINE!!!!

  • What? Dude the artists have everything to do with the sound. If they don't create it, there's nothing left to engineer...

And it's just my opinion, but i could do without fucking Uli and his guitarmasturbation..

  • Uli is not a "wanker" by any means.

  • you know that billy is a real guitar god too?:P but in the most of his music it would never fit with a face melting solo. he is not a bad guitarist at all. and if you play for as long and at a high level you will get good.

  • my mind is blown

  • I've been playnig this song through my head for 2 days now and in my spare time a I watch this! I love this song!!!

  • oh and to the "Billy is wacked out now" comment...he was actually "wacked out" before because he was always on acid or X but hes got his head on straight now and making the music he loves. Thats what being in a band is about. You make the music you love and if people like it they become your fans. Youre a tool if you make music to please others. Not that thier old music wasnt amazing because it was and it was what he wanted to do then. SP is Billys band and thats that.

  • God! What is it with these morons saying that billy is going solo or that hes a one man band now???? There ARE other members to the band ya know! Jeezus. What? Are Jeff, Ginger, and Lisa not actual people to you jackasses? They are actually taking part in the song writing and recording on the new album as well. So why dont you and mtv go listen to some Fall Out Boy or something.

  • Learn your damn facts. No one but Billy (and formerly Jimmy) have ANYTHING to do with songwriting or recording. This isn't a change though, in the entirety of the Pumpkins' career, someone other than Billy has only helped with the songwriting in about 5 songs. James helped with Farewell&Goodnight, Soma, Mayonaise, D'arcy helped with Daughter, and there was one more track from MCIS i cant remember. I digress. The Pumpkins have always been a 1 man band, problem is, people mistake ART for EGOTISM.

  • To clarify, i don't think it would work if there were more than one person writing a majority of the song. That's exactly how you GET crap like Fallout Boy. If anyone else has control over a piece of work, it stops being the artists vision, and starts being a collective project, losing its soul. So Smashing Pumpkins is, in a way, a 1 man band, and always has been, but it NEEDs to be.

  • You must be thinking of Take Me Down, the song James sings and most likely plays.

  • i think take me down was entirely james iha...none the less smashing pumpkins would not be the smashing pumpkins without corgan

  • @rohiogerv22

    indeed.

"i often speak of you but the you is always me

cause when i speak of me it's me i ask of you

so let there be no truth just trickery in rhymes

time the only thing waiting still as death " - from Soot and Stars. Very sad song. I'm taking a stab that he wrote that about D'arcy and James.

  • this is so great, i watch this over and over again...what a great show!!! this song!!! aaaaaah!

    *****

  • Epic song, Pink Floyd-Style! Great guitars! But Ginger Reyes(Bass) and Lisa Harriton(Keyboard) are my personal favorites. Good choice, Billy! ;-)

  • billy is whacked out now

  • Jimmy is there, on the drums

  • duh, thanks a lot. but he left the band a few weeks ago.

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • shit is whack

  • agreed

  • This song makes a great outro to the concert

  • this song was one of the best on the tour but that hippie guy ruined it with his sour fill-ins

  • I tend to agree, judging from other live version of this I've heard. Uli Jon Roth seems like he's almost playing a different song to the rest of the band.

  • yea i dont like it. He's ruining the feel and melodies of the Goss!

  • If "Superchrist" is like "Silverfuck," then I'd have to say this is a bit like "Glass and the Ghost Children."

  • Well, Superchrist is not like Silverfuck, so...

  • Gossamer IS the god of music as is... As far as I'm concerned, any band that was good is dead or has stopped making good music, but, while it isn't particularly Pumpkin-ish, Gossamer is a masterpiece, and Smashing Pumpkins still does throw us a bone every once and a while.

  • Brilliant song

    pumpkins will always be amazing.

  • the pumpkins are great but uli jon roth needs to shut the fuck up.

hes a good player, but he doesnt fit in well

  • This "songs" undeniable quality flies in the face of simpletons who think the Pumpkins are somehow dead. They just need to open their ears and turn off the braindead junk on the radio.

  • This is an incredible song. Can't wait to hear a studio recording.

  • There won't be a studio recording. The pumpkins said this song was unsuccessful and not popular with the fans. As many people walked out after a while. The song has never been played live since (I wanted a studio recording too :( )

  • How do you walk out on Gossamer? Its 28 minutes of nothing but awesomeness.

  • It proves that their not very loyal Pumpkins fans...

  • für genießer

  • They should make the bass louder and the keyboards way quieter

  • Dream Theater is good but I think Corgan's guitar carries some more emotional weight. The same can be said about Jimmy's drumming compared with Mike Portnoy.

  • I don't mean no hate by my comments, I just like emotive playing more than technicality. He probably is one of the most skilled alive.

I have the Budokan show but haven't listened to it yet. My favourite DT albums are Images and Words, Scenes from a Memory and Awake.

  • I'm really not into DT, but I just want to say to Tomdawg89 that I completely agree with you man. Technicality can be practiced and you may reach it, but to just making people feel your guitar playing is something that can't be practice.

  • ive seen them twice now since this piece has been written and they didn't play it either time. i was so sad. its by far their greatest acheivement with the new line up

  • after watching tha dvd, i think i have a better appreciation for this version, just fucking epic, to say tha least....

  • holy shit this is amazing!! pleeeease please don't dumb it down and make it generic when recording it...please...hope he locks himself in the studio for three days and records crazy guitars again like he used to. That'd be phenomenal.

  • I already saw the dvd and have a copy of it. I won it by entering in a contest. Saw it last night, truly amazing!

  • my god they played this show at Massey last night...friggin epic

  • I don't think they should record this as a single or something like that. If they release it, they should release _this_ live version.

The rest of the show was okay, but they were much better 7 months later on tour, but this song is definitely one of (if not) the greatest song performance(s) I ever saw live..

  • i agree, its fucking amazing!

  • I think a studio version would be great, though it would sound different than it does live, like with Superchrist. Though I'd settle for an official release of Gossamer live in high quality. I'd probably listen to it onloop through breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime! It's almost the magnum opus of the Pumpkins. How could you not record it?

  • yea they really fucked superchrist.

  • Epic Rock Song from the Heaven.

  • a live version of this song will be on their new dvd "if all goes wrong"( will be released november 11)

  • His voice AND guitar playing are top notch in this song!!

  • This is definitely an amazing song. It couldn't be released soon enough! Has Billy or SP in general made any statements as to whether it will be on a single for Superchrist, or the album itself? Here's hoping sooner than later!

  • I love double solos!!! Great stuff.

Reminds me of Boston or Queen.

  • the words that come to my head when i listen to this is amazing and unbelievable. no one should even consider covering this song, its just a SP thing. This is just abnormal, too good

  • billy corgan is severly underated as a guitar player, i love his savage layering abilities, and the fact that he can seriously rip it up on leads when he wants to, so much control and restraint at times depending purely on how it will affect the song---just brilliant

  • @kingoftheswing000 Totally agree sometimes very talented guitarist get carried away with over the top guitar solos leaving the rest of the song and instruments in the shadows...

  • @kingoftheswing000 yes! that's what I tell everybody I meet

  • This is fucking fantastic, I own every pumpkins alubum, every single, Mashed potatoes, Aeroplane flies high boxset and countless live shows.... Ive got around 45 pumpkins cd's they've been my constant favorite band since 89... and I fucking loved zeitgeist I fucking loved American Gothic, and I fucking love this song. its amazing to me that good music still exists in the fog of shitty god awful fucks who play music today.

  • @wowweetoki You said exactly what I think. Pumpkins/Billy are the shit.

  • This is a great song. Looking forward to its release. Too bad it'll get overlooked by people who don't have time for them since the reunion.

  • Most people don't realize what a amazing Guitarist Billy Corgan is. He's come along way since his Eddie Van Halen (no disrespect just meaning it didn't feel like billy's style Proof; watch him solo in the Marked before SP) performances although FAST were not as moving as his later solos. He's really got his own uneqiue style now.

  • and he's also left-handed playing a right-handed guiar which makes him even more amazing

  • very uncommon song really liked it, but i cant see that billy is playing a left handed guitar right handed, its a right handed played right handed ;-)

  • jimmy chamberlain looks like john terry

  • this song is the best ever and when they release it in the studio, it will be fucking unbelievable. they should let people rate this one song out of six because its a mile above every other rock song in the fucking world. sp are back!!!

  • does any else think the opening riff sounds like spiteface?

  • i was there!

  • One of the best riffs ever written!! Harks back to 70's era...how awesome is this song!!

  • This is one of the best songs I've heard by the Pumpkins. I really hope they take the time to record and release it with all it's sonic brilliance and beauty. If they studio recorded and released Superchrist they could do Gossamer. They didn't play it at any of the shows I went to so I'd love to be able to crank this and rock out to it. And I think in the long run SP would be glad they recorded one of their best songs!!

  • When I first heard about the American Gothic EP, I was sure that Gossamer was going to be in it. I was really pissed when I saw it wasn't on there, but the 4 songs on AG were still good. I really hope that this song is released real soon. This is by far my favorite Pumpkins song

  • i wish they'd release another machina, another adore. another mellon collie. gossamer is an improvement from zeitgeist. a huge one. i hope they become more epic/art rock now. <3 pumpkins for life.

  • i promise they will never release another album that would be a copy of any of their last ones

  • Gossamer is an invention of the Gossamer era. Note he says: "One, two, three, Four What are we fighting for?"

One would assume he's alluding to Iraq or War in general.

  • Zeitgeist era** my mistake.

  • I already have a concept music video suitable for this song in mind. My idea is to have Jimmy Chamberlin riding a Dodge Charger escaping as a fugitive and Billy as the villain "dirty harry type" cop chasing him around in a muscle car. There will be car chases. Its like Kill Bill meets Bullit.

  • this is fucking awesome!

  • ginger is neat :)

  • saving my gossamer virginity until it is released officially so I can hear it best but I can't stay too chaste, the song sounds sick from the first guitar intro

  • lmfaooo

  • This song friggin rocks...HARD!

  • Uli isn't plain' a Fender guitar.

He's plaing his own guitar named "Sky Guitar"

    look it up at google!

  • It's funny that Billy, Ginger and Uli are all playing Fenders and then there is the rhythm kid with a Gibson.

  • James Iha played a Gibson thats why :) You have to have someone with that Gibson up there

Regardless, nobody fucking replaces James Iha, as nobody replaces D'Arcy as well. Smashing Pumpkins are not "The Smashing Pumpkins" without those two. Now they are Smashing Pumpkins.

  • xD hell wtf?!?!

  • that song is amazing. i was at their concert in paris the 22nd of may :)

  • ...i was there...

  • what's the name of the bassplayer?

  • Ginger

  • talk about fucking epic!!!

  • I wish they would release this as a Single. Its so totally amazing. The intro is a lot like Hummers.

  • They are going to.

  • they were but now there just going to release a live version from the filmore. it runs 35 min long.

  • Uli's tone sucks here

  • this song is amazing, every version of gossamer is different, they just kind of wing it every night

  • Fruschendrix and Sly, I agree with both of you. Seeing this amazing song back in July (albeit not as amazing and beautiful as with three guitars) totally got me rockin'to it just and havin a great time all around. Agreed: the best song not on Zeitgeist.

  • What is with the crowd? Are they dead or something? Can't they see this awesome song being played for them?

  • I would assume they are in awe, as they should be.

  • This song f'ing rocks. I like Zeitgeist alot, but this song is better than any song on it.

  • I cant wait until the album of zeigiest b-sides and outtakes comes out, call me impatient but this is like the Smashing Pumpkins Magnum Opus

  • aw shit, it's the 32-fret Sky Guitar!

  • Jimmy Chamberlin said recently Gossamer will be realeased, a live version from the Fillmore shows, and the song will be 35 minutes long!! Check out the 'Ask a Pumpkin' answers for more...

  • i agree with personaljesus.

you took the words right out of my mouth.

zeitgeist is a fantastic album, and the pumpkins are one of the bands in the history of music.

  • in my opinion one of the best and most original songs by the pumpkins just a shame its not on the new album

  • wow, musicianfan, go listen to zwan, then come back here and start falming the board. if you dont like them, the get the fuck off this video. deal with it, whether you like it or not, the pumpkins are back, for good or for bad.

  • billy PWNED that guitar!

  • dummer = clive owen !!!!

  • umm no,...the drummer is jimmy chamberlin

  • as long as Billy Corgan is still in the band, the Smashing Pumpkins will never be over. you can think whatever you want-'musicfan99999', whatever the fuck helps YOU sleep at night.

  • Oh, come on FruscianteLennon311. He just gave his opinion. It's not like it's preventing you from listening to the album. I guess your violent little retorts are what help YOU sleep at night. And I like Zeitgeist. A lot. I like it more than Adore but less than Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. That there, my friend, is an opinion. Don't lose your cool with me now! ;)

  • I say as long as Billy and Jimmy are in it, but you're definitely on the right track.

  • i agree those emo bands are the worst, but zeitgeist really sucks.. zwan part 2

  • hahaha what the fuck are you kidding zeitgeist is nothing like zwan

  • whatever helps ya sleep at night. the pumpkins are over.

  • Calm down. It's just music. And people have their opinions about music. You don't need to get too negative with people. Same goes for that FruscianteLennon311.

  • Zeitgeist is Zwanish, and who cares.....they both f****** rock

  • why I don't get is why people expected the old siamese dream Pumpkins. The closest to that will be the cd, Siamese Dream.

You can't moved backwards if you only want to go forward.

  • i don't expect them to sound like the old pumpkins, i merely expect them to sound GOOD. too much to ask?

  • well that's based on opinion. We can argue for ages that they do or do not sound "GOOD".

  • your a douche

  • at least i can spell "you're"

  • dude, zeitgeist sounds nothing like zwan, it may not be their best album but its better then most the albums coming out this year

  • the album leak!!!!!!!

  • They have returned to kill fag emo bands like hawthorne heights and fall out boy

  • It's nice to see Billy smiling (2:29). I never see him smiling anymore.

  • finally... real rock

  • LONG LIVE SMASHING PUMPKINS!!!

    Jimmy rock's so much ass!

  • Walk on home emo-boys! this is rock history!!! Uli Jon Roth is a fantasic guitar player. Billy Corgan and the new smashing pumpkins are unbelievable! Thanks for a gorgeous rock-event..

  • Walk on home emo-boys! this is rock history!!! Uli Jon Roth is a fantastic guitar player. Billy Corgan and the new Smashing Pumpkins are unbelievable! Thanks for a gorgeous rock-event..

  • He doesn't whine any more. i MISS his whinning. He just sings totally gay now.

  • wow! jimmy actually does a solo for once!

that was cool even if it was a short one...

although it might of just been a sound check.

  • not sure if you know, but now there is a video result if you type "jimmy chamberlin" solo into youtube, which is a solo from their 2000 tour. pretty short, but interesting to see.

    and of course, phenomenal.

  • fucking unreal trippy dreamy pumpkins!!! They are back and billy's voice and music is like everything in the past and then some new. It spans from gish - mellon collie, particulary trks like "the orchid" and "united states" "doomsday clock" all very pastashio medley. Let the echoe ring forever on.....and fuck all those emo my chemical romance crap etc/bloc party 80's disco in the wheelie bin! Stupid poser rock emo kids.

  • personally i think that uli jon roths guitar solos ruined the first part of this song in the very beginning otherwise the other stuff was pretty sick that he did. i fucking love this song!

  • Oh my god, why is this song not on a album? It's so great! Can it be true that a hman being has created it? It's divine!

  • awesome, and tummelke says: very nice

  • REALTIME Trolly-Dolly RHCP Music Video---

10 CAMERAS rolling at the same time---

    ENJOY IT!

  • Ridiculously AWESOME! Uli With the Pumpkins Incredible Landmark~

  • Tanks !!

  • Put simply: WOW!

To be honest, I haven't heard a lot of pumpkins-music. And What I'd heard didn't interest me much. AND I wasn't much of a fan of those old Rock Gramps. This evening changed a lot! The Pumpkins were so fucking awesome...and Uli topped it all off. One of the real great expieriences.

  • a true encore! Rock history.

  • JIMMY ROCKS ASSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song!

  • Uli shouldn't have played the riff... lol

  • saw the whole thing live! it was amazing. this right here is the best encore ever. Uli PWNED that guitar.

  • Whose that fella behind Billy with the guitar? Santana?
