Nice looking car. I've always liked this style for Mopar cars. Thanks for the info regarding the Dodge logo. I've always wondered what it was called and how the Dodge boys came to call it that. Sweet!
You never see vehicles with that type of green color anymore. I'd like to see a brand new minivan with that type of color. It may never sell but it would be interesting to see what one would look like.
I have NEVER heard the story of the Dodge insignia, but I love trivia like that.
You find some cool cars. Rally dash on a 318 Coronet! Strange.
The door gaps are ridiculous on the car, which isn't a criticism - just reflects Chrysler assembly at the time. The best engineering, but some embarrassing fit and finish.
And yes, I love the sound of the pre-74 starter motors. Interestingly, my brother's 74 cop car had the slow turning starter, whereas my dad's 74 Plymouth Fury had the fast one.
@crispiegee1 Yeah, I read about the Dodge logo on a Chrysler website and got a kick out of it myself. Now that you mentioned the gap, I took a closer look. What you're seeing is the dark green door bumpers combined with my camera being slightly underexposed which creates an illusion that the doors are excessively gapped. The fit and finish on this car is really nice though, I can't knock it. Doors close nice, not a rattle trap either.
A thing of beauty! Had one in 1977 - My first car. Was blue - same expansion crack in the dash :). Brings back memories. Ran very well. Way to keep it clean!
@cudak888 Let's see the driver and passenger of that coronet if they have an accident with a modern cadilac or pickup truck or far, far more likely, an SUV or mini-van. While the new car would probably be in worse shape, the person in the modern car is far more likely to walk away. I LOVE old cars, especially MOPAR, but they are not safe compared to todays cars.
When I took driver ed in high school we had the similar Plymouth Satellite....1970....I loved driving that car. It was the first Mopar experience I ever had (my parents only owned GM cars). Thanks for sharing....looks great!
Wow! I Applaud your efforts to keep it original. A lot of cornets ended up trashed on Shows like A Team, TJ Hooker and anytime TV needed a car to wreck.
My very first car was a 1971 Dodge Coronet. All white with a hard top, not vinyl. I had the 306 in mine. It also had the sweep speedometer you talked about. I can't believe you had the fold down arm rest which converted the bench seat into a simulated bucket style. Awesome car dude.
Really nice original 1971. I agree, cars should be kept the way they were ordered from the factory. If restoring is needed it always looks best restored to the original specs and not mucked around with. Not a fan of hot rods or low riders, I think they are hideous.
I have a 71 coronet in the same color, but it's just a custom, not a Brougham. Mine's got some dents, not at all in the great shape of yours. It has a white vinyl top, no AC, a 318, drum non-power brakes, AM radio, bench seats, no lower chrome strip, the door panels are simpler on the inside, but it has a manually adjusted passenger side mirror. I love Zenith TVs and Mopar, and it freaked me out to see that you got a '71 coronet. I also love and have 4 late 60's mopar C bodies.
I remember those old 318 V-8's. My brother had one in his '68 Plymouth Fury. Excellent gas mileage for a small V-8 and the hydraulic lifters were very quiet. Pretty peppy too, when you romped on it. I think it was better than the Ford 302 or the Chevy 307 of that era.
Its nice to see a car like that which survived rust since i guess they were so rust prone. As a person i always liked the original car style without flashy mods.
Nice video. Very informative. these cars ride and handle very nice. Mopar Starters were called Hammentrac (sp) Hummingbirds at the factory. These cars give nice ride, like you are GLIDING down the road. Very Very NICE!! 318 engine is a a great engine.

I love the old cars, but they are just so dangerous. Modern cars are much safer, if not as powerful.

@christo930 - Ah, yes. I invite you to hit said Dodge Coronet head on at 35mph with your Smart Car. Let's see who fares best.

I'm jealous! Always wanted a 70's vintage B-body sedan, but darn tough to find one in good shape here in the Northeast.
Beautiful automobile you have there. Thanks for the video.
