I had to watch this film because P.Verhoeven was its director. He made brilliant RoboCop, Totall Recall and Basic Instinct. And yes, Starship Troopers was great. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer & Jake Busey did a great job. Critics gave many negative reviews to this movie but I think ST is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi films of the 90's (along with Strange Days, Alien 3, Them, Lawnmower Man, Virtuosity, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, The Apocalypse, The Arrival, Mimic, Virus, Space Truckers)
Who would be DISCUSSING HEINLEIN the author today if NOT for the MOVIE! HEH! Only a few self-important scifi wonks. I give it ONE thumb Up and ONE Thumb Down. (Personal opinion-natch!)
i watched the movie again today...and it brought back good memories, but from watchin this video, ur suggesting that it has subliminal messages and that u dont agree with them...am i correct?
its obvious that the person how made this vid and a few of you commenting have not read the book and have no idea about the themes or the author. it was written in 1959 to be reminiscent of the Korean war and deal with issues of voting rights, civic duty, wars role in society, and capital punishment.
in the book the modern democracy's of the world (government based on Popularity) fail because "people had been led to believe that they could simply vote for whatever they wanted... and get it, without toil, without sweat, without tears." , and the society that replaces it is a Meritocracy (government based on demonstrated talent and ability) that why in the book you have to serve to be a citizen and earn your vote. The Movie was Good the Book was Much Better.
Sounds like a scary premise to me..after all the Fascist and "Communist" and, more and more, the "Capitalist" countries of our world (ahem, the US) are sorts of meritocracies.
Who decides what characterizes "merit"? Usually those in power, or those funded by those with power, making decisions to preserve said power.
The US was meant to be a constitutional republic to preserve individual liberties, its since been corrupted by globalist plutocrats that threaten to destroy its sovereignty
Not that I'm gung-ho for the US...especially in its current pathetic state of existence and power-hungry government. But its my general feeling that the sovereignty of many peoples has a higher probability of at least preserving ideas of liberty than would a single one world government (which is now being openly called for by many wealthy "elites", their cronies, and pseudoscientific mischief)

The movie is God, the book owns the movie like a bitch, it has so much win the universe exists to contain it.
