OH LOL! I never understood what he meant until now! I thought when he said "heard that in a game once" he meant "heard that in a game of poker once" or something. Like he was saying some guy that he played poker with said "What are you buying?". As if his opponent was pretty much saying "You will lose, so you will be giving me money."
