It is IMPOSSIBLE to find this song online. I want to buy just this song, but it's not on iTunes and the sites that claim to have it are screaming scam and want you to buy $30 in credit beforehand.
@Picardy I just double checked my Duffy CD with London Girls on it and I don't have this version. I have never heard this song before either and I have I think all his stuff from Tin Tin, The Lilac Time, and even The Devils. My version of London Girls has Me Me Me songs: Hollywood Wives & Tabitha's Island.
Musically I'm not sure if I like this song better than Barenaked Ladies' version, but I love Duffy's subtle lyrical tweaks. "Lived together" to "slept together" and "cooler" to "safer if we just stay friends" makes it so much better.
The subtle lyric changes are interesting. Comparing Page vs. Duffy is like comparing apples and oranges though. Their vocal styles are completely different.
holly crap, never knew this version existed? although it doens't surprise me seeing that he helped out with Page's solo work. Good stuff, nice version to listen to for a change
another Duffy stormer.. hopefully more people will take the time to listen and digest - how can such a simple topic be brought across so well and with clever lyrics.. Duffy strikes again of course!
great song from SD SP of BNL...Photomontage...wonderful...would you please tell who some of these actors/actreses are? Also...note photos at 2.41, 2.54 and 3.40...more on these? if possible...Thanks ...a very nice video...
Thanks very much. At approximately the times you mentioned are: Jean Seberg/Jean-Paul Belmondo...Jean-Luc Godard....Stephen Duffy. Others I've listed in your email. Thanks again.
Wow... this is so much better than Jane. Probably because this was recorded with overdriven guitars. And duffy's lyrics were less mainstream - 'It wasn't long before I slept with her'.
Robert and I were saying that we actually prefer Stephen Duffy's voice. Confusing yes? As they both have the same first name. But I like S. Page's version a lot too. I just happened to be a Stephen Duffy fan first, like you with Page. Great song either way. Thanks for posting. Cheers.
yeah, page is way better than duffy....duffy is still good, but page is amazing...but maybe i'm just bias because i heard page sing this first, you know?
Thanks - I did checkout some of songs on the Vanity Project. Stephen Duffy's velvety voice is sadly absent from what I listened to. For me, I prefer his singing over Page's, even though Duffy strangley thinks Page sings better than him.

@marijapan
It wasn't released at the time it was recorded but surfaced later as a bonus track on the "Duffy" CD, the one with London Girls on it. Cheers.

True-that! Wish someone would post "Sugar High." This guy get no air play on college radio. This song is great, though, a fabulon!!
The first girl I loved was the original Sweet Jane but she didn't love me back even though "I was so pretty!"

I just posted a video for Sugar High. Thanks for the suggestion - I hope you enjoy. I chose the slower version as I liked it better.

I always thought Duffy has this sort of "grownup" velvety voice like a choir boy = v. good compliment to me...
egiappaige 4 years ago
Also to add that you can't really compare their voices because Duffy sounds more 'stone-ish' while Paige sounds a little husky.

I have to agree that Stephen's voice is better ... and if Stephen thinks otherwise, well he's daft. cheers!

Duffy's voice is nicer and smoother, but in singing abilities such as vibratos and strength, Page is definitely more powerful.

Steven Page Stephen Duffy cowrote this song,
and several other BNL hits. Duffy and Page are friends.

He co-wrote the song with Steven Page, along with others for the barnaked ladies.
