It was good from 1500 and up. I never went ove 6000 RPM anyway. I had a 2800 converter in it I think. I wish I still had it.

This thing sounds great!, im restoring a 65 coronet with a poly 318, i dont wanna throw big dollars at it, just 30 over and a big mutha thumpur, should do the trick. When you got your heads ported and polished where did u notice the most difference while driving?

It is 30 over 340 with 10.5 sealed power pistons (not stroked), HV Melling pump, Summit mech fuel pump Cloyes double roller, Clevitte bearings, & balanced... No real high dollar parts in it, oh, and the big muthr thumpr cam. The J heads were ported and polished by Mancini Racing probably 20 years ago, but kept fresh with all matching parts for the cam and 1.6 roller rockers . Biggest thing is make sure you break a flat tappet cam in properly. Any detailed questions shoot me another message.
