I have looked for this version for so long, thank you so much for posting this! I was going through some things when this came out and helped me get through many a dark day.
"2nd Resurrection" was probably the Stairsteps' most underrated album, and I think it's the only one they recorded on Geroge Harrison's Dark Horse label. I can remember borrowing this album from my aunt during the summer of 1976 and being reluctant to return it!
@woodallaj They are actually from my hometown, Chicago. Their last names are Burke. One member, Keni, had a classic R&B song in 1983, "Keep Rising To The Top", which the sample was later used by Doug E. Fresh....
@cutelittlecaramelkid Keni Burke went on to form The Invisible Man's Band also. They had a big hit called "All Night Thang"...and Keni also went on to produce for Philadelphia International Records...He produced on the Jones Girls "Keep It Comin'" CD and some stuff for the O'Jays after Gamble and Huff started running out of ideas for them. One song was "Put Our Heads Together", I believe...it's on YouTube if you're curious...
@nonia512 You're kind of right I guess, depending on perspective (which is everything, right?). Keni had a record deal with Dark Horse Records, though it was originally Clarence's idea, I think it was Keni that pushed it through, and produced it. Also, brothers Dennis and James were part of Invisible Man's Band (only Cube and Aloha, I believe from the Stairsteps were not part of this band), along with keyboard/synth player Dean Gant.
Thank you very much for posting this album. It took it to philly to turn my friends on to and left it on the train coming back to DC. This is some great music. I really liked the previous release , the one with Oh Child on it as well.
this is the original version, it was written by the Burke brothers, and was remade by the group Pockets, also they were renamed The Stairsteps when their sister Aloha left the group although I can't recall the year she left. This is one of my favorites!!
The album is "Second Resurrection" on ex-Beatle George Harrison's 'Dark Horse' label, and it's stunning. One of the best of 1976, and way ahead of it's time.
@MOONALLURE Thanks for the message my friend. I would really like to take you up on your kind offer. Look forward to hearing from you soon OK, stay blessed. Peace and unity from London England.
One of two musical concert regrets that I have in life is missing the Fabulous Stairsteps at the Kennedy Center in DC -- I'm pretty sure they were on a bill with Ashford & Simpson in '76. (The other regret was missing Bob Marley at UC Davis in Cali in the late 70's). Peace!
every morning after I bought this album in Stuttgart Germany in 1976 me and my roomate would listen to it. 30 yrs ago and it's still beautiful. I've been saying for years that it's the most underrated classic r&b pop album of the last 30 yrs. thank-you for posting some cuts. I want the whole album again on CD if possible bless the stairsteps rest in peace Billy Preston ....oh and George Harrison
Classic Album that received very little air play, why don't know...just listen and enjoy real music that you can't compare to nothing in 2012.
