  • That persimmon looks different than the one I tried, which was fresh. It tasted awful and the texture was like a squishy tomato! :(

  • I just finished making this and boy does it taste good! I'm glad I have a new drink healthy drink to enjoy. The kitchen smelled so good while I was making it. Even my sister got intrigued. I'm bringing some to work tomorrow. I can't wait for my friends to taste this. Thanks very much!  (I made some adjustments though, used 1 cup of ginger because the half cup was a bit lacking. I think it's bcoz of the type of ginger I used).

    can u find it in any asian store?? like chineese store?? or is it in only korean store??

  • @ptmagar it will be really good for your school project especially it's served cold with ice cubes. I find dried persimmons at a Korean store or Chinese store in China town.

  • When I saw the shape of those dried persimons, I thougt cute! Japanese one is shaped different but I found the same shape of Korean one.:D I will try to make it later.

  • good dried persimmon (ggotgam) is easy to find if you live by chinatown. BUT, GREAT dried persimmon is another story. This is seasonal thing...

  • could you make sujunggwa without the pine nuts? will it affect the taste? because I plan to make sujunggwa on Thursday or Friday and serve it on Saturday

  • it doesn't affect the taste, I use it as a garnish.

  • i made this and it was really good, but the dried persimmons weren't tasty after soaking in the liquid. it tasted very tart and i couldn't eat it anymore. do you know why this happened?

  • hmm, I think the dried persimmon you bought may not be good quality. When it is soaked for a day, the taste is awesome! It should be sweet and soft!

    You can find dried persimmons at Chinese grocery or Korean grocery. Chinese grocery store sells it cheaper price.

  • Congratulation on your successful su jung gwa making! Was it a little spicy? I have never felt it is spicy. The ginger and cinnamon smell really go with each other.

  • No, cinnamon sticks are very important ingredient for sujung gwa. The sujung gwa without cinnamon flavor is like cabbage kimchi without cabbage. : )
