y do people dislike videos like this i mean unless ur hitting dislike cuz it hit the truck i can see that but i cant see straight hate toward a video thats G rated, to me it can be a learning tool for other pilots or ground crews so there more aware.
From the looks of it and having flown a few 205s with the bambi bucket, it looks like he went IMC and punched it to climb out of the smoke. Or he could have been close to an overtorque and punched it. Either way he flew out and what a wash job.
why do you noobs think the pilot will lose his job over this? people make mistakes, accidents happen, nobody was hurt, what's the big deal? is it that you would like to see someone lowered in status? maybe lowered to your car washing level? sorry, not this time
That was a pretty serious incident. Could have been really nasty had the bucket been caught by something or had a person been struck. Smoke really does make things invisible I guess. Rarely are these types of videos educational but this one certainly qualifies.
Pilot says to Copilot "Dangit Merve!! I swear this is the LAST time I forget we have a 40' cable with a 1/2 ton of water dangling from the ass of this rig"
@poitertoip The bucket is made of fabric, not metal. However, the mass of water hitting the windshield that way could certainly shatter it or knock it out of the frame.
That is a CDF UH-1H w/a Bambi bucket and he was just flying a lil' low enroute to a fire line just beyond the pick-up pumper that it hit. I think it was down around Mammouth Calif.
What do you do for a encore? A transmission change? You know a good pilot always has an excuse for this sort of thing. I wonder what his was, shoes untied?
@krouxmosby i wouldnt call it a stunt. he was flying low so he could keep visual refrence to the ground because of the low visability caused by the smoke

The pilot can now say goodbye to his job. Maybe he will make it in the car washing industry.

Why do you want him to lose his job so badly? Let's see YOUR heavy-smoke-fire-fighting videos!
Didn't think so

where the heck was any communication? whats next in this clip, a burnover? really puts out a good word for us firefighters.
dufur450 1 year ago
That was neither, "NEAR" nor a "MISS."
But in all honesty, in aviation speak - there is no such thing as a "near miss." THERE IS a reportable incident called, "Near collision."
FINAL SCORE:
Bambi bucket 1 - Fire truck 0.
DrMotorDude 2 years ago 3
Near miss? No, direct hit.

I think the pilot knows what he's done wrong cause he turned that thing round pretty fuckin' quick.

@columbusfire425 Actually it was a near miss because he nearly missed it, but instead hit it.
okEric89 1 year ago
@columbusfire425 That would be a near miss. If he hadn't actually hit it, it would be a "near hit." ;p
