  • thanks..simple explanation as to how to convert audio that many other vids couldn't seem to do properly

  • all you do is jackoff your jaws and say nothing

  • I am recording from my record but it sounds it is under water! It plays perfectly on my amp but on my laptop it sound terrible, something like under water... PLEASE HELP!!!

  • I have tried this to record an LP but I am not getting any sound when I try to playback. I am getting the waves on the left hand side of Audacity but no sound - any ideas?

  • Dear DigiWiz, Thank you for posting this video. It's helped me tremendously. My wife takes music lessons and wanted to transfer her practice tapes to CD. Following your instructions, I was able to record, edit, and burn her music almost effortlessly. In addition, I hooked up a mic to her laptop and showed her how she could record her lessons directly. I am familiar with Audacity, but never knew how to record before. With your help, I am now able to do so for free!

  • Thanks very much!!!!! 10/10

  • How it would be used with an LP?

  • How do you get it onto the CD?? sorry I got the mp3, I just don't no how to get it on to burn CD? please help!!!

  • @sexything256547 Hi. When you export your music from Audacity, set it export as a .wav file. Next, open your CD burning software and set it to burn an Audio CD. Load your .wav file into the burner and burn away. Good luck.

  • Thanks for the detailed instructions, very helpful. Any chance I an update to suit the latest beta version of Audacity? ( However, I did find the mentioned settings eventually in the beta version.)

  • I have a ION Profile Pro - I got a fairly good deal on it and did not own a turntable. I want to transfer my vinyl to CD and be able to play them in the car or on any home stereo CD equipment. Will this ION product allow me to do this using your method without using ITunes? Thanks for your help, really appreciate it!

  • Interesting... I have been looking at a lot of videos with Audacity, but not using the Y cable (I was looking at the Behringer set up), and each person just turned on Audacity and hit record and that was it. You have been the only one so far to go into details, and I love it! Granted, your version is slightly different than mine, but I did as much messing with both the laptop, the recording levels and Audacity, and now I am off and running. Thank you so much!!!

  • Hi! I have followed everything put when i check the levels a high pitched screeching noise starts. The only way i can get it to stop is to close down audacity. Any ideas?

  • @Gemmavic1981 Yep, that's feedback - Caused by the mic picking up the sound from your speakers. You need to disable the audio you're recording from playing out thru' your speakers - Or if you can't do that, just mute your computer's speakers while you're recording

  • How do u just record the record player. I have a jack hooked up to the mic outlet on my laptop, but i pick all background noises and its bad sound sound quality. PLEASE HELP!!!

  • @Thestonesification Are you picking up background noise that is happening while you're recording?

  • thanks a lot for this! Is there a way in Audacity to make the cassette sound better? My cassettes have lots of background noise, how can I get rid of this please? thank you so much

  • @tierix You're welcome! I don't have Audacity on the computer I'm on right now, but I seem to remember there are some pretty good noise reduction facilities in there.

  • i can't get it to work for me it keeps going crazy with the audio levels...

  • I did it all by myself!!!!! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!!!!! So easy to understand for someone who isn't a computer geek. I have been wanting to convert my out of print children's story cassettes to mp3s for quite a while. Now I can. So grateful for this!!

  • All good and useful, i do all you have suggested but cannot seem to find the saved mp3 anywhere, any ideas..?

  • Thanks for the tutorial. It really helped me out.

  • Thanks for the video, helped 100%!!

  • Thank you for the video. It was of great help!

  • Fuck dis. Ipods 2 da max!

  • Gracias

  • hi digiwizuk. will that mp3 go directly into my itunes once i have completed that step? please let me know. Thanks,

  • Hi thanks for this upload.

I have a new cassette with perfect sound but when imported into Audacity the sound seems to distort and even though the input volume is turned way down both on Audacity page and in the control panel, the sound distortion will not disappear. It helped a lot but not completely. The wave sound touches both the top and the bottom. Maybe you can help?

  • @latabeatles Hi, you have the input volumes turned down in cp and i audacity, but what about your source? Are you coming out of a headphone socket on a stereo? Try turning that volume down

  • This is a great video, but I'm having a problem and wonder if you can help. I've tried both the line in and a USB device, but no matter what I do the input device selection box is greyed out, so recording doesn't work. Any thoughts? Thanks

  • It's NOT illegal to record the radio or television, so long as it is for personal use ONLY and not for profit!!!

  • It's NOT illegal to record the radio or television, so long as it is for personal use ONLY and not for profit!!!

  • Can i record the entire record then copy the sound into seperate files

  • My mother left me a tape 17 years ago before she passed away. I hope it still plays. Will there be any degradation in sound or quality once her voice is recorded from the tape to CD?

  • @alsaxon No, there shouldn't be.

  • Excellent explanation and I can assure you if it worked for me then it will work for anyone. I even used one of those hand held walkman like cassette recorders and the sound came out very well on the computer. Awa the lads. THANKS

  • Isn't the mic jack mono?

  • @donaldpeter28 Depends on the computer, some are, some aren't

  • Is the microphone jack mono?

  • I recorded a couple of tracks and all was fine. Then suddenly the next couple I tried were distorted. The levels were below 0 and when played back there was a horrible buzzing noise. Any idea why?

  • @TheWalterz Buzzing noise may have been a lead not plugged in fully?

  • you said make sure playback device is correct - but you didn't saw which option was the "Correct" option. which is it?

  • "With digital, it's always better to be quiet than loud." I think the record companies should take notice of your quote and quit it with the loudness wars already!

  • You are a star! Thanks so much for the info.

  • great video, just a quick question, when im recording my old vinyl on a usb turntable, the playback sound is way to distorted im not recording at full volume either, apart from this slight hiccup everything works good, any info would be appreciated.

  • thank you very much

  • nice vid helped me allot and gave me something to do haha but the volume on audacity and my computer is very twitchy/temper-mental which is troublesome but who ever said life was easy ay =]

  • Thanx a bunch for putting up, but there are certain songs I want on Cassette. So could I take audio files from my computer and record to cassette?

    -PLEASE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @StuntmanAustin Yes you could do that very easily

  • Why is it illegal to record the radio?

  • @rickschravendeel copyright

  • @DigiWizUK oops! i used to do that many years ago.

  • Thanks for this tutorial it was really helpful. Just a note to other users who are downloading LAME from that link you gave. You don't really need to click the link used in this guide to install the .Exe as we only want the 'lame_enc.dll' file. What I did is download the Zip file below the .Exe file and then copied the lame dll and pasted it into my plugins folder within the Audacity folder and it works fine. :)

  • Now I won't have to pay $80 for the Mortal Kombat movie soundtrack! ^_^ thanks. :D

  • Very good video. I hate all of these companies making money off of people who don't know what they are doing. Some companies charge £20 for a mini-jack cable successfully because they throw a load of crap on the label how this specific cable will let you do this sort of thing. You can find a decent cable in any electronics shop for no more than £1.

  • cheers mate! hey i have that microwave :)

  • @TPSNetwork Me Too!!! :-)

  • I have a HP dv6000, when i record, the recording is only mono and records only the left. I did all the settings show and the recording sounds horrible. What would you recommend?

  • mine ain't working, and the bands on the jacks are blue not black...and i can't seem to pick up audio from my stereo...help?

  • but i cant choose whether is it from a microphone or anything else >>(in the bar)

  • yeah when he says dont record radio its illegal, click the box he unchecks @ 3:39, if you dont the microphone bar wont be acessible. if you're recording cassetes its not illegal so you have to click it to work.

  • ^^ thank you very very very much

  • hey thx man u save me lots of money
