I can't figure out how to have the drums pause or ad fills in song mode. You know what I mean? Like at the end of 4 bars sometimes you stop the bass drums or snare or even all the drums and then start them again at the beginning of the next 1st bar. How do you do this with the scenes? Of course I know how to mute different sounds, but I mean if u mute it in one pattern won't the other pattern end up like that one? I don't know! I want to record it like that.

Hey F Major, love your videos I've lost about 2.5 stone recently and have changed my diet and I'm enjoying music much more than before. I have the Maschine and really like it! :) Can't wait to try 1.6! How easy is it to use VST's inside Maschine now?
Hey F Major, love your videos I've lost about 2.5 stone recently and have changed my diet and I'm enjoying music much more than before. I have the Maschine and really like it! :) Can't wait to try 1.6!
I am a 15 year old kid that's played the piano for around 8 years and is starting with Reason 5 as a DAW. So far I have an UltraNova synth, and I want a set of pads. How easy is this to learn to use for a beginner in software usage?
Hi. I would really like to see what your workflow between Maschine and Ableton Live look like. Both these programs incorporate scenes and patterns (clips) concept. Do you make a beat on the Mashine and then export patterns as audio to Ableton into separate clips? Or maybe you export only midi clips and route them to play on the Maschine? Or after dropping the tracks to Ableton you mix it in the traditional linear way just like RealSylenceMusic wrote in his comment? Keep up good work. Peace!
@altruwest how do you think the transition would be comming from an mpc5000... i know you said your comming from a linear perspective but im coming from an complete hardware (mpc and fantom)?? Also how tight is the recording.. the thing i cant stand about computer beat making is that i can never get the tightness and accuracy that i get with my mpc.. so that why its so hard for me to switch to software.. i did very recently purchase Cubase 6 and how do u thing it will work with maschine..
@A100Drumz I actually come from using the MPC for years.....so I more familiar with that style than anything else. I would say that its easy to transition with Maschine 1.6 because the features make it very much like a workstation keyboard meets drum machine. The recording is tight enough for me, but Im not much of a person that relies on the sequencer, as long as it plays back what I played in exactly...im good! I think its about as accurate as any other hardware I have used in the past 10 yrs.
initial 8 or 16 bar loop. Any way you could show us your workflow for the programming of scenes .... in the way you define changing you "programming sensibility". You're on to something here and I know it's sort of an Ableton approach but coming from the linear school, I'd love a tangible example of what you are speaking about. If possible, you could finish the video with an export of the individual tracks (sounds) into Pro Tools so that it takes the scenes and converts to the standard linear.
@Altruwest Yeah, I'm probably asking quite a bit.... I think what it is is I'm beginning to see the potential of a complete production overhaul with Maschine far beyond my original purchasing purpose of basically adding another soft instrument to the arsenal. If it's easier for you to talk offline via email about this stuff, I'm fully down. I really appreciate your videos and any other form of information that you're willing to divulge. My email is sylencemusic@gmail.com if interested. Thx
Thanks for the video man. Just picked up Maschine a few days ago, learning how it functions pretty quickly. I'm a Pro Tools user and know my arrangement process pretty well but you spoke about something that I'd love for you to possibly demonstrate in a video if possible. I do the same exact process in Pro Tools... 24 bars - 8 for the hook, 8 for the 1st half of the verse 8 for the second half or for a breakdown but I struggle sometimes with the linear approach to finding new ideas beyond my
hey man imma big fan.. im from marietta ohio and im looking to become a producer. do u have any tips in making something in the producing business? i am using fl studios but am hoping to upgrade to maschine soon. i have a midi controler on the way so i can start the physical beat making process instead of inputing notes. is there anything i should be doing now to help out later... im almost 18 and have been with music my whole life. again thank you for doing what you do:)
whats good big bro its Trakz and after seeing this man, you have inspired me not only once but three times to stop bitching and get maschine. so I have 2x on the way, I'll call if theirs anything that catches me off balance. Peace n good luck big bro!
@theoutsideas I actually taught myself by just reading books, watching gospel musicians on youtube, and just really practicing what I saw. I want to eventually get some lessons to really solidify things.
Dope Vid Fam !!! Enjoyed the convo on there man and the beat is bananas. LOL @ 09:38 when the cameraman getting the shakes from trying to hold back from head noddin to the track !
Man i got some issues on mixing i dont have studio monitores & i use reason5 along with oxygen49 & a 16-bit audio card...i will get a 24 & studio monitores but untill that happen do u have any advice for me?from portugal...
@inspectorscratch definitely just learn your monitors/speakers. Reference albums that you really like now and compare your mixes on the same speakers. Also take your music to other places so that you can listen to your tracks and take notes on the mix. Mixing is a process, so dont be afraid to go back and change things once you have taken some notes on the problem areas.
@Altruwest hey man, nice clip, good info, very helpful. Are those rokit 8's you have there ? if so what do you think of them? any other speakers for hip hop breaks kinda stuff you could recommend ?
@OzBoomBap86 hey whats up, Im using the Rokit 8s in conjunction with the Yamaha HS50s for monitoring and mixing. In terms of overall accuracy and flatness, I rely on the Yamaha monitors, however when im simply creating tracks and want to hear low end, the Rokit 8s are comfortable for that process. I also go back and forth between monitors and headphones frequently (Beyerdynamics DT770 headphones).
@soundasylum1 Thanks bro, I actually havent used an MPC for almost 2 years now. Maschine 1.6 now feels the closest I have felt to hardware/MPC style workflow in a long time.
the beat is fire... I'm also struggling with Logic and Maschine, want to use maschine more but the workflow is affected if I still have to bring it Logic to mix...
@mdotmusic Thanks! One thing you have to understand is that Maschine is a creative workstation, its not a console emulation, nor does it emulate a tape machine. Mixing is best done in a DAW because of the mixer/console emulation that is available, along with the routing possibilities(#of Inserts per channel, Aux Send/Return) along with the plug in delay compensation and overall visual layout. I understand why you would want to do everything in one environment, but there is always a compromise.
sorry bout all da quest., but last one, how can i import into cubase(track by track) to be able to mix? can this be done by the new drag and drop feat. in 1.6?
@diamondkavemedia hey whats up bro, Maschine 1.6 can run any Vst or Audio Units effects, but I wouldn't recommend mixing a track in Maschine since it has no real mixer inside of it. Effects can be place on sounds as an insert, as well as on Groups and the master Output.
Man, I'm a big fan.. I always check your vids and your site. I have to say though, that I'm a bit disappointed that you don't lease beats anymore. You had a whole collection on your old site, that are all gone. I love that 'My Struggle' track. You have to let me know how I can lease that.. Good work !!!
whats up f major i am a big fan of your work and because you know a lot about the music hopefully you can answer some questions for me. what is the name of speakers/ monitors your'e using bcuz i see them a lot. how can i sample internally using you tube, etc with the maschine. the beat was fire as usual. thanks for all the knowledge.God Bless
@Champ1on22 The monitors are KRK Rokit 8s, I bought them more so because the bump, I still have the Yamaha HS50ms for critical reference though. I will figure out how to make a video about sampling from other applications (ie iTunes, Firefox, Internet Explorer etc). Thanks for the support!
Mine should be here this week. Can't wait now. Linear programing has always been a problem for me because for some reason it makes my beats sound rigid. I like to songs that build and suddenly go somewhere else and but I have to work real hard to get that in the daw progs I have used. Beat was out cold homie.
in your honest opinion...do u think its best to just get maschine since you can control ableton live with it? i like the apc40 but realistically if i cop maschine which can control ableton the redundency would be buying the apc40 as well. i'm using reason/record and ableton live together but, like you said, if u don't have and hardware to use with ableton it gets limited. i'm leaning towards maschine due to more versatility and being able to sample and chop within it gives flexibility.
F MAJOR BEEN CHECKIN YO VIDS FOR A MIN. JUST GOT THE THE MASCHINE A MONTH AGO I LOVE IT ALSO. THE BEAT WAS KNOCKING KEEP BRINGING THE HEAT FOR THE WEST BRAH. WHEN YOU GET CHANCE MAKE A VIDEO SHOWING HOW YOU TRACK EVERYTHING FROM MASCHINE TO YOUR DAW OF CHOICE. RIGHT OWN WEST UP.
I'm diggin that track hard bro!!! Love the creativity let's me know I'm definitely in the right mind for what I'm doing with maschine you remind me of myself the way you vibe! Nice to see the westcoast keeping it real gritty with official hip hop sound dope...real dope kid! Thanks for the good energy, I'll be staying tuned for sure!!
I can feed my groups into Ableton using 'external instrument' and then configuring the midi and audio settings in the track and Maschine (as a VST).. what I can't work out is how to do the same thing with 'sounds' using 'Pad mode'
How do you move your Maschine concept into a DAW once you have it in scenes ? (specifically the 'sounds' )
@MigoiMusic I try to keep it as simple as possible, if I use Multiple scenes as in the track in the video, once Im finished with all my programmed parts I use Maschine's export "Sounds" feature to get all of my instruments and drums out of Maschine as individual wavs. This process takes roughly about 5 minutes max. Once I have exported everything I just drag the files directly into my DAW and continue developing the track. When I was strictly hardware, this would have easily taken me 45 minutes
@Altruwest thanks for advice man, that sounds like a much better way to move over to my DAW. I think I need to get into the habbit of devlopiong the track more on Maschine and worry less about sequencing Maschine with my DAW (the only reason I do this is so I can easily change any sound instantly and still have the midi notes to play around with). I think my mindset is still on software based sequencing and need to get my head into hardware sequencing... change my ways. lovin yoru work !
that beat goes hard fam! i'm on a MV88 and LogicExpress 8 but I been thinking about getting Maschine to cut out the step of dumping my audio from the MV into Logic. We'll see, but I have a request for a video on "analog summing." What are your thoughts on it? Do you do it? You think its needed? I'd love to start running my Logic beats through something analog to "warm" it up but I dont know how to do it.
@PeteGrime Good Topic, I dont use any outboard effects/processors in my home studio, but I will see if I can figure out a reasonable way to touch this topic.
@soundtrak00 Awesome Bro, good to hear its working out well for you! Thanks for the feedback on the track, I should go chop it up with Mr. Kendrick Lamar....
This is awesome F Major. Thanks for dropping the knowledge. BTW, where did you get your computer desk? I've been looking for something that compact with a keyboard drawer.
Dope beat as always. I think it would benefit a lot of beginning beatmakers if u could discuss music theory and composition. Having a solid foundation in those ares is key to music production. I know u have a firm grasp of those concepts. Just a thought. Peace.
Inspirational Beat....nothing but respect man...i love maschine. When I finish a beat I always drag my scenes in Logic. I just like mixing in Logic and using some logic sounds. What are some your favorite vsts?
@goodtimezproductionz I would definitely start with Komplete 7 if i had to just buy one thing....Reaktor is incredible and comes with so many different instruments, as well as tons of free instruments available for it
Damn bro! Beat is crazy! I'm always telling my mind, I can't let my mpc 3000 and all my hardware synthesizers behind but when I listen to what you're doing with mashine and software synths, I think twice! Keep up the good work and thanks again for all those great videos you send.
@Hidrissa thanks bro, I say if your stuff is working, stick with what you have first and foremost! but if you are curious about Maschine's capabilities.....definitely dont doubt the possibilities!
i dont kno y u not producing for snoop and dre seriously man we need more dudes like u with talent man that use chords progression melodys and good arangement ur shit alaways sound clean and tight man and knocks!!!
heyy!! wats good man. nive track as usual man loving it !!! i am interested in this maschine man i just wana kno wat u think of geting adjusted to this coming from software only and never had or use a mpc before right now i use reason/record and also was lookin at logic for me to incorperate some thoughts plese lol
Good stuff F. You are so right about having to change your mind about a few key things in order to fully get into maschine. I would always ask myself "Why can't maschine do this?" I started going to the forums and found the "work-arounds" I needed, until native-instruments came up with updates that addressed it. I love the show man. As far as an idea for the show, maybe you could get more in-depth with the Soul Treasures program. Show you chopping the wav-file and adding different elements.
I just have a simple request I have been following you for a while. Can you please bless a brother with a west coast/ jazz beat. Thank you and God bless continue to live healthy. U should share that health knowlegde to your followers.
Nice groove., Stay healthy,, I use to just lift weights, Now I diet and run at least 2 miles after I workout,, No more kool aid,,or late night eating helped me lean up some. peace and keep up the good work.
i loosely pay attention to the maschine out there, but hadn't really thought about copping it. can you make some vids perhaps showing the basics that translate from having used an mpc?
@theoutsideas Theres no set way to to that, its widely known that Maschine has no timestretch natively, however when using Maschine with say Ableton Live, or Kontakt it is easy to accomplish this. I dont use timestretch personally because older samplers that I used back in the day did not have great timestretching and I learned how to chop my samples better or make use of pitch shifting in order to speed up samples. I think if timestretch is important you will benefit from using Ableton also
@Altruwest Keep in mind though that you also can't "speed up the tempo on a chopped sample" in Ableton Live, as in slice a sample into Drum Rack and then try to change the tempo for the slices to match. I can do this in Reaktor though.
@skizmat When I have a chopped sample that I want to speed up what I usually do is put the chopped sequence into ableton as a bounced stereo/mono audio track and warp it so that is emphasizes the stretching on the parts that I need. I dont use Drum Racks in Ableton at all because I do my drum and sample chopping in Maschine most of the time. In general though if a sample is chopped/beat sliced, speeding it up does not require timestretch.
@Altruwest Right. I know you can do that. Was just replying to theoutsideas' specific question. I mean, you don't even need Ableton Live to do what you said. You can bounce a chopped sample in Maschine itself and then throw that in Reaktor/Kontakt/or whatever timestretching plugin of your choice is, WITHIN Maschine.
that is a fire track... thank you for coming back and i would love to see some of how you come up with the beat... like process... because i seem to fall into the drums then sample then rework drums then bass than anything else... so i just want to see your workflow : ) peace and nice work on the health stuff mange!
I can't figure out how to have the drums pause or ad fills in song mode. You know what I mean? Like at the end of 4 bars sometimes you stop the bass drums or snare or even all the drums and then start them again at the beginning of the next 1st bar. How do you do this with the scenes? Do you still use Ableton Live or Logic for the final mixing stages? or do you mix inside Maschine?

I am a 15 year old kid that's played the piano for around 8 years and is starting with Reason 5 as a DAW. So far I have an UltraNova synth, and I want a set of pads. How easy is this to learn to use for a beginner in software usage?

purpleandbianco 11 months ago

A100Drumz 11 months ago
@A100Drumz I actually come from using the MPC for years.....so I more familiar with that style than anything else. I would say that its easy to transition with Maschine 1.6 because the features make it very much like a workstation keyboard meets drum machine. The recording is tight enough for me, but Im not much of a person that relies on the sequencer, as long as it plays back what I played in exactly...im good! I think its about as accurate as any other hardware I have used in the past 10 yrs.
Altruwest 11 months ago
initial 8 or 16 bar loop.
RealSylenceMusic 11 months ago 4
@RealSylenceMusic Sounds like a pretty in depth video, but I'm going to try to pull that off soon.
Altruwest 11 months ago

24 bars - 8 for the hook, 8 for the 1st half of the verse 8 for the second half or for a breakdown but I struggle sometimes with the linear approach to finding new ideas beyond my

inspectorscratch 1 year ago
@inspectorscratch definitely just learn your monitors/speakers. Reference albums that you really like now and compare your mixes on the same speakers. Also take your music to other places so that you can listen to your tracks and take notes on the mix. Mixing is a process, so dont be afraid to go back and change things once you have taken some notes on the problem areas.
Altruwest 1 year ago
@Altruwest hey man, nice clip, good info, very helpful. Are those rokit 8's you have there ? if so what do you think of them? any other speakers for hip hop breaks kinda stuff you could recommend ?
OzBoomBap86 1 year ago
@OzBoomBap86 hey whats up, Im using the Rokit 8s in conjunction with the Yamaha HS50s for monitoring and mixing. In terms of overall accuracy and flatness, I rely on the Yamaha monitors, however when im simply creating tracks and want to hear low end, the Rokit 8s are comfortable for that process. I also go back and forth between monitors and headphones frequently (Beyerdynamics DT770 headphones).

the beat is fire... I'm also struggling with Logic and Maschine, want to use maschine more but the workflow is affected if I still have to bring it Logic to mix...
mdotmusic 1 year ago
@mdotmusic Thanks! One thing you have to understand is that Maschine is a creative workstation, its not a console emulation, nor does it emulate a tape machine. Mixing is best done in a DAW because of the mixer/console emulation that is available, along with the routing possibilities(#of Inserts per channel, Aux Send/Return) along with the plug in delay compensation and overall visual layout. I understand why you would want to do everything in one environment, but there is always a compromise.

Mine should be here this week. Can't wait now. Linear programing has always been a problem for me because for some reason it makes my beats sound rigid. fadatiko 1 year ago
in your honest opinion...do u think its best to just get maschine since you can control ableton live with it? i like the apc40 but realistically if i cop maschine which can control ableton the redundency would be buying the apc40 as well. i'm using reason/record and ableton live together but, like you said, if u don't have and hardware to use with ableton it gets limited. i'm leaning towards maschine due to more versatility and being able to sample and chop within it gives flexibility.

MigoiMusic 1 year ago
@MigoiMusic I try to keep it as simple as possible, if I use Multiple scenes as in the track in the video, once Im finished with all my programmed parts I use Maschine's export "Sounds" feature to get all of my instruments and drums out of Maschine as individual wavs. This process takes roughly about 5 minutes max. Once I have exported everything I just drag the files directly into my DAW and continue developing the track. When I was strictly hardware, this would have easily taken me 45 minutes
Altruwest 1 year ago
@Altruwest thanks for advice man, that sounds like a much better way to move over to my DAW. I think I need to get into the habbit of devlopiong the track more on Maschine and worry less about sequencing Maschine with my DAW (the only reason I do this is so I can easily change any sound instantly and still have the midi notes to play around with). I think my mindset is still on software based sequencing and need to get my head into hardware sequencing... change my ways. lovin yoru work !

Show you chopping the wav-file and adding different elements.

how do u speed up the tempo on a chopped sample in maschine
theoutsideas 1 year ago
@theoutsideas Theres no set way to to that, its widely known that Maschine has no timestretch natively, however when using Maschine with say Ableton Live, or Kontakt it is easy to accomplish this. I dont use timestretch personally because older samplers that I used back in the day did not have great timestretching and I learned how to chop my samples better or make use of pitch shifting in order to speed up samples. I think if timestretch is important you will benefit from using Ableton also
Altruwest 1 year ago
@Altruwest Keep in mind though that you also can't "speed up the tempo on a chopped sample" in Ableton Live, as in slice a sample into Drum Rack and then try to change the tempo for the slices to match. I can do this in Reaktor though.
skizmat 1 year ago
@skizmat When I have a chopped sample that I want to speed up what I usually do is put the chopped sequence into ableton as a bounced stereo/mono audio track and warp it so that is emphasizes the stretching on the parts that I need. I dont use Drum Racks in Ableton at all because I do my drum and sample chopping in Maschine most of the time. In general though if a sample is chopped/beat sliced, speeding it up does not require timestretch.
Altruwest 1 year ago
@Altruwest Right. I know you can do that. Was just replying to theoutsideas' specific question. I mean, you don't even need Ableton Live to do what you said. You can bounce a chopped sample in Maschine itself and then throw that in Reaktor/Kontakt/or whatever timestretching plugin of your choice is, WITHIN Maschine.
skizmat 1 year ago
that is a fire track... thank you for coming back and i would love to see some of how you come up with the beat... like process... because i seem to fall into the drums then sample then rework drums then bass than anything else... so i just want to see your workflow : ) peace and nice work on the health stuff mange!
