I think you're thinking of the interface (SATA II).

It's only rated to reach a max speed of 220MBps I believe.

thing is... i never actually have to boot my laptop... rather i hit the F3/ sleep key... and uhm coming out of sleep takes about .7 seconds and im back in windows 7 (w7 kicks ass btw) and if i have to restart my computer for some reason it takes about 30 seconds, i can wait 30 seconds... my laptop has 500gigs of hd... im not paying for sdd right now, i will deal with the 30 seconds boot time, and 1 second resume time. maybe thats just me =D

However, Samsung SSD is definitely one of the best SSD drives on the market... I have the Summit SSD (Samsung OCZ)... and it writes and boots faster than the other Vertex SSD's I have in my other macs. Probably because of it's huge cache.

I picked up the 60GB for $150. Like I said before, Samsung doesn't make the chip for OCZ anymore, so you can't get OCZ Samsung drives, but they are FAR from crap.

Hard drives also have a limited life span just like everything else, but the very best SSD's availible on the market (like the x25 by Intel) shouldnt degrade in performance for a very long time due to wear leveling
