I took on a black abandoned baby squirrel and fed him every 3 hours around the clock with an eyedropper. He was fed all fruits and pablum, and alternated with all vegetable & pablum. It dries like cement unless you wash it off. He grew and thrived and once he got his teeth he ate a lot of rodent things. I spent days grabbing various edible treasures for the guy and had a huge cage made for him with a solid branch inside and a sleeping loft. He has to chew hard things or his teeth overgrow.
@DakotahOutdoors Other way round, leucistic means lighter in pigment while albino means none at all. A quick engine search or dictionary will clarify.
@JDog5555545 I doubt he bought the squirrel. I have a pet squirrel that my son found in the back yard when she was a baby. She fell out of the nest, and the mother didn't come to get her, so we had to take care of her. We are keeping her now because she could not survive in the wild, because she was raised in a house. I have never seen a squirrel for sale in any pet store, and they shouldn't be sold for pets because really they are wild animals.
he looks hungry. squirrels need to stay busy foraging and burying nuts. There should be peat moss in the cage / habitat and a little enclosure so he can get privacy. I feel bad that the only nature was that one sad plant. I think he's looking for bugs, seeds, and nuts.
sometimes If I play with the pet squirrel, they will bite a little too hard, then they run back and kiss you where they bit you too hard to say they are sorry.
@jyewa116 I have a pet squirrel. She sometimes bites my fingers when I am playing with her. I think it is part of how she plays or she thinks I might have a nut for her. It can hurt sometimes but it's not hard enough to make me bleed. She is very sweet like the white one in this video (I have a much bigger cage for her than this one seems to have).
Are you sure he's albino? Albino means he would have no color pigmentation what so ever and would have blue or pink eyes. From the video it looks like he has normal black eyes meaning he is not albino just white.
Awwww, so cute. This is a leucistic squirrel, not albino. If you find one as an orphan, it's best to find a rehabber. They don't make pets. They make WILD squirrels that bite HARD and can be very, very unpredictable. Oh they love to play and can be sweet...and then turn on you. Once my girls began to 'wild up' I soft released them... they still come and eat at home every day - outside, where they are free, and belong. :)))
u guys should get this fellow a BIG cage like the one in the video Izzy the white chipmunk - u can see it in the background at the end of the vid - its a GREAT cage - and this little guy would probably be happier - i had a friend that had a squirrel in a tiny cage and he became MEAN - vet said he needed a bigger cage bc a small confined cage can cause aggression issues in climbing animals like squirrels and racoons and sugar gliders.
regardless - this little fellow is PRETTY & he looks like he's displaying some mating behaviours with your hand -u guys outta get him a mate & breed a baby back to this white one &you should get some white babies -u wouldnt have a problem finding homes 4 white hand raised pet squirrels &u wouldnt b contributing to wild animals as pets problems bc a white squirrel is an oddity in nature&most likely 2 get killed &eaten anyway -they have no natural camoflague colors so they usually die in the wild
That's NOT a true albino. Albinos always have pink eyes; this one clearly has black eyes.
I have three ferrets, two are white. One is a true albino with pink eyes and the other is a "DEW" - "Dark Eyed White", with black eyes. I think this squirrel is a DEW.
That cage seems way too small. It is actually unhealthy for him to not have a natural environment.. You should give him a cage outside with a tree in it so he can climb. But he seems to be a very friendly gorgeous squirrel ^_^
he is actually not an albino , albino's have red eyes, this squirrel has black eyes, which makes him a "white squirrel" which is actually more rare then an albino squirrel. white squirrels are found mostly in exeter, Ontario, Canada :) where albino squirrels can be found many different places.
@NecroVenomm actually he/she is albino, animals can have albino traits about them that don't affect other parts of their body. i.e. the squirrel's fur traits are albino while the eyes are not.
For the record, I dropped my cell phone in the toilet once, don't ask how. I want to know if he has a million bucks, why doesn't he just find out where you go your squirrel, and buy his own? And what does he want it for? Just as a novelty? A thing to show off? Or to love and take care of?
there is a baby squiril around my neighborhood it was in my garage yesterday, it was reliesed in my neighbor hood by my neighbor about two days ago... i dont think it has eaten... i threw some walnuts where it usually hides... my dad said i can rais it if i can catch it... how do i catch it... tools i have: cat cage/carrier
Yes I do, I can tell you that I own three of the Bakersfield's bigest car dealership. I'm also associated with Bank of America's financial institution...Just tell me if you are interested and I can mail you a check for the full amount. This is my final offer...

Yeah this one is rather gentle at times. As long as he's eaten his food his calm. BUT if you plan on losing a finger, try touching him while hes eating.
so cool! i wish the squirrels around my house would trust me enough to be my pet. ive always wanted a squirrel. anyone know if you could buy them at an exotic pet store?
I'm sure you may be able to find a place although I have no idea where. You;d have better luck finding a young squirrel fallen from a nest or lost or something and taking it in. Gotta be careful though, I wouldn't recommend having expensive furniture.
Sometimes I think of catching a squirrel and keeping it as a pet, but I was just wondering how hard they bite and if they do bite you, if you'll get some disease. I'd sort of like to domestimicate a squirrel.
Well. I will say first hand that attempting to catch a squirrel is hard. Only when they're young is it reasonably possible. I have caught a young one before and it didn't bite because I was handling it. However, later on I was walking past someones backyard while holding it, and someones dog barked at me scareing the squirell. It bit me enough to make me bleed at that moment and ran away. However, I did catch it again and it did not bite.
This is not the same squirell as in the video, mind you.
I named it braveheart.
Cause he wasn't relly afraid of me.
Also, a grade school teacher I know once witnessed a squirell being attacked by a house cat, and he ran over and shooed the cat away, consequently saving the squirrels life. He told me that story one day while I was near his house, and I witnessed that very squirrel hop into his hands and eat from his hands. it was so cool.
From the time he saved that squirrel, it trusted him completely and isn't afriad of him at all.
I wouldn't recommend catching an adult squirrel as they may die of the stress from the change in enviroment or being caught.
A baby squirrel that maybe fell from the nest, injured a bit is fine to care for. And...if it so chooses to come back to you after its better and you let it out side... then keep it as a member of the family.
Thanks for the comments. They've been interesting to read. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll come upon a lost baby squirrel that can become a pet. Other than that, I think I should let them just be outside with their own kind.
He (Snow ball) is a very pretty squirrel,do you have any ideal how old he is? and what kinda milk do you feed him?also what about "NUT-BALLS" see they really need these every day....
He said it was under a bridge. That he walked up to it and it wasn't even afraid, so he picked it up and played with it. Then he brought it home. Now he's had it for a few years.
I just got a squirrel but its not white? Where can I get a white one? Are they rare?
