I'm french mister bretzel, and I do confirm that for the morst relative nationalist freak you choose to be, you can't historically admit that "THE" UK wasn't the most clever empire administrator. France didn't manage so well, and Germany was permanently obsessed by expansion for that stupid lebensraum until it got defeated and decided to no longer give power to jerks!

Baaaaaaahhhhh I watch Garrincha and it's hard. ...If I could take a layer from that sort of era I think I'd chicken out and take Di Stéfano.. He seemed to have the right body and abilities to be a devastating player.
@imprezaver4 Football in 50's was walking pace, it lacked athletes and the defences lacked cohesion and did not work as well as a team. A full back could dribble to within 30 meters of an opposing goal barely challenged. Oh and by the way - cheating was so rife then that one player placed half of a lemon behind the ball when there was a penalty so that it missed. There was drugs, alcohol abuse and racism. Football from the mid 90's on was FAR better. Garrincha and Gento would be useless now.
@Christoffski Great players would adapt mate, no doubt about it. Garrincha is up with the top 20 players of all time. Football today is ruined by money, back then they were earning a decent living. I agree it's faster and a better standard, but the greats just of the english game would still dominate in today's leagues, Charlton, Best, Law, Dalglish, Keegan, Robson, Gazza, Lineker etc, in my opinion would be earning a fortune.
I just can't see it. Garrincha suffered diabetes, both his legs were bent and he was a raging alcoholic. I just can't look at him, how he beat players and his general IQ and say he is amongst the likes of Ronaldinho, Cruyff, Laudrup, Totti, Matthaus, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Maradona, Romário, Henry, Zidane, Raúl, Kaká, Giggs, Figo, Rummenigge, Messi, Savicevic, Djalminha etc. I see him more as being like Denilson, Le Tissier, McManaman and Robinho. very good to watch but not world class! Too slow/weak
@Christoffski Dejan Savicevic. Now that's a blast from the past. He was awesome. I remember him playing for Red Star Belgrade with Darko Panchev. I wind my dad up about how players from 50's-60's wouldn't make it today, saying, they were good when football was shit. But I stand by my earlier comment, I'm sure if Garrincha played for some modern day club, he wouldn't get away with the drinking, hence stopping his diabetes from spiking. Do you really think Kaka deserves to be on that list?
@SuperMillsta Yes!! Good ol' Dejan, Darko, Piksi etc. I loved that era of great Eastern Europeans! I am English so I had to really really hunt for DVDs and stuff but it was worth it. Dejan was an absolute wizard on the ball and I've always felt so sorry for Darko who never got to play that world cup. :( In that year he was unstoppable. :D It is definitely interesting about Garrincha and I will concede that if you're gonna pick someone from that era then he's a good one. Kaká?? Prob not.. Baggio?
yahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great footballer after all he inspired my dad to name me (linika) spelt differently thou....to all those who think its girly or weird - back off i've been graced with one of englands most accomplished names!!! in soccer
my favorite player in barcelona when i was a child , my friends call me gary winson, i dont forgot this hat trick in 50 minute Barcelona won 3-0 to real madrid but later the referee did madrid scored 2 goals... 3-2... a nice game.. Lineker great striker , great scorer and great human , thanks from barcelona
Yes, he can, though probably he was better at it years ago. He seemed a quick learner. According to other team members he had in Barça, he was also able to understand catalan, though I never heard him speak catalan. But he spoke a correct spanish.
@imprezaver4 Peter crouch is pretty consistant, although they are different types of strikers. Ones a poacher, the other plays a more supportive role but still poaches
people blast Lineaker for being a 2 yard striker and a gola hanger, he's a striker, thats his job, where most players bottle it and trip over thier laces, lineaker would score. he wasnt graceful or skillfull, but he knew where to be, and where to put the ball should he get it. and you cant ask for more than that.
I remember his last season in FC Barcelona he was placed as a winger, not as a striker (SOMETHING SIMILAR TO WHAT HENRY IS DOING RIGHT NOW) he didn't do a bad job. What is MOTD? sorry for my bad English I am a foreigner.
henry started his career wide left in italy, was picked out by wenger and wenger turned him into a center forward... BUT he was always most effective attacking the center from the left. pretty much what he is doing for barca, he only plays wide when they play 3 up front. wenger used to do that too. not the same as lineker out wide, lineker was a massive danger in and around the box and not much else ;)
you're wrong, it wasn't that season when he was placed in the wing, but the 88/89, his last one, ans it was Johan Cruyff who made him move there so that Julio Salinas could take his place.
@ohgoshdirector Alan Shearer was the same except for the occasional fearsome strike outside the box he was a goal poacher but nevertheless still one of the greatest strikers the game has ever seen.
@resilienceman and more importantly they were gentleman players, no point being a great sportsman if your personal life gets in the way. Look at Rooney, or Beckham or any number of other players who have natural talent and let it fall away in search of lust and money. Lineaker was a clean cut bloke, a good role model.
@resilienceman and more importantly they were gentleman players, no point being a great sportsman if your personal life gets in the way. Look at Rooney, or Beckham or any number of other players who have natural talent and let it fall away in search of lust and money. Lineaker was a clean cut bloke, a good role model.
yes she certainly was a great player, the auctioneering business obviously came post football career balanced alongside grandstand id assume. She had a great area.....and yes she has my sympathy too. Lastly inside the playing fields should be the groundsmans task but anyway truly marvelous...isnt it?.
She was noted for his scoring. Excellent auctioneer, both head and with both feet, he was a man of the area, which spared no opportunity to be present. She also won the sympathy of the fans for his outspoken nature and sympathy. He never received a yellow card in the 18 years of his footballing career, for which he was awarded the Fair Play award from FIFA in 1990. It was an example of sportsmanship and a gentleman inside and outside the playing fields.
Lineker was a great finisher, he didn't have an awful lot of skill but he was always in the right place at the right time. His movement and awareness was superb.
Him and Gascoigne were on 3 grand a week at Spurs, a lot of money back then in 91. Now some players in league one can earn that! Unreal
He was Carrasco, a skilful and creative forward who played for Barça from 1979 to 1989. His action in the second goal (with 2 consecutive and very difficult dribblings) gives an idea of the kind of player he was. He was irregular in some matches, with a tendency to abuse his dribbling undeniable skills, but in the other hand he could be very brilliant.
In Jimmy Burn's book on FCB, Lineker is quoted as saying that the 2nd goal of his hat-trick was only one of three times in his entire career that the hairs stood on the back of his neck at the sheer exiliration of scoring. The other two times were his 3rd goal for his hat-trick against Poland in Mexico '86, and his equaliser against Germany in the Semi's of Italy '90.
i would say he is brilliant, he can score any type of goal, header, volley, long range, short, lob etc but he doesnt run around like a headless chicken. He isnt very fast but he has strength and height, i think people view his patient style of play as lazy, but he is always in the right place at the same time
unfortunately the old fashioned number 9 is dying out of the game, look at england, they waited a long time for a player like Rooney in the second striker role but now they don't have a shearer or linekar to go along with his talents. How many van bastens and batistutas are there now in the game, all round center forwards
england used to have talented and skillfull players in the 80's and 90's like gary, hoddle, robson, hoddle, gascoign and many more but nowadays everyone hates englands players includoin me , no one respects them , they're overpaid prima donnas who dont care about football but their popularity and salaries , despite each of them being paid unbelieveble money they couldnt help their country qualify for euro2008. and lmost all of them get like 100 g per week , so sad and and funny lampard
i bet it's idiots like you who boo your own players. By the way it's not the players who choose these salaries, they are offered them so don't be bitter just cos they're rich and you're poor. Chelsea pay lampard his wages and he's the best prem player this year of any (and you're forgetting the fans' choice as best England player for 2 years). how sad it is that football has 'supporters' like you. By the way i don't hate them so enough of your "everyone" generalisations.
wrong wrong wrong!!! Lampard is not "the best prem player this season" Try Nemanja Vidic or maybe even Michael Carrick. What the other guy is trying to say is more of a reflection of how the game has gone, more money rather than loyalties. We all know is Chelsea who pay Lamaprd his 100k per week. But Gerrard pulling out with an injury, and all the others who have pulled up with "injuries" before an international game. That is down to the players and the players only!
You know nothing. Club football here is very competitive, to an extent where English players are unable to gel. However, over the years, England have never really had a commanding manager. Sven, Steve McLaren, the two most recent before Fabio Capello, were always 'too friendly' with club managers. Capello, on the otherhand, forced Steven Gerrard to attend the camp despite 'allegedly' being injured. Although he was, that's a bold move because it implies that you don't trust his club.
God save Lineker!!!
He's probably better than Torres even today.

Worthless player.
Just a fucking tap in striker
Pavsovfrance 3 years ago
some of the greatest sides in the world need a player of his type. When the games were tight, he was inevitably the difference
mauriceoas 2 years ago 2
what just like £30m Dimitar Berbatov?
thats all united bought berbatov for as well, jus to score tap ins
thats all united bought Van Nistilroy for as well
how are they worthless 1 tap in = 1 goal which leads to many victories in football, prooves how much you watch the game
spanner121212 2 years ago
is berbatov a really good player?? cuz i heard a lot abt him but i never seen him play
yuya2689 2 years ago
i would say he is brilliant, he can score any type of goal, header, volley, long range, short, lob etc but he doesnt run around like a headless chicken. He isnt very fast but he has strength and height, i think people view his patient style of play as lazy, but he is always in the right place at the same time
spanner121212 2 years ago
unfortunately the old fashioned number 9 is dying out of the game, look at england, they waited a long time for a player like Rooney in the second striker role but now they don't have a shearer or linekar to go along with his talents. How many van bastens and batistutas are there now in the game, all round center forwards

Its what called a poacher dickhead, GERD MULLER 68 goals in 62 GAMES, HE WAS A POACHER.

What a goal hanging bastard! Inzaghi must have watched him when he was a kid and copied his style.

england used to have talented and skillfull players in the 80's and 90's like gary, hoddle, robson, hoddle, gascoign and many more but nowadays everyone hates englands players includoin me , no one respects them , they're overpaid prima donnas who dont care about football but their popularity and salaries , despite each of them being paid unbelieveble money they couldnt help their country qualify for euro2008. and lmost all of them get like 100 g per week , so sad and and funny lampard
amm00008 3 years ago 2
i bet it's idiots like you who boo your own players. By the way i don't hate them so enough of your "everyone" generalisations.
tiananmenkwanju 3 years ago
wrong wrong wrong!!!
