i love how the lyrics that pinback comes up with can be so deep, but sometimes, if unexplained, it confuses the shit out of me. they've admitted to throwing ambiguously irrelevant lyrics into some songs just because they fit. it doesnt bother me though. i think i get more of a message from the mood of the song than anything.

@j0bzz I think it creates a mystery around their lyrics. It allows them to be free spirited, or fulfilling depending on who you are. It allows a broad audience to appreciate their music. Whether they throw in online gaming references like AFK (A Free Kill) or Penelope actually samples a bit from Sesame Steet (the beginning clap)... Pinback plays with their music and enjoys making it. It is up to you to decide how to perceive it... light hearted or profoundly deep?

This song is about Seville, which is a city in spain. It was a port town, but it sits inland a ways. It was no longer used as a port after the water way by it was filled wit silt. People were attracted to the city due to it being a trade route with Spain and America. The good from America brought lots of people there.

There was a time in the mid 1600's when a plague decemated seville and ended up killing about half of the population. A few years after the plague hit revolts broke out and bread became scarce and really expensive.

This song in particular is about a little girl whos parents probably died from the plague and she is left and will soon die also. Seville was also really into religoins and I would guess Sheena Bella is some sort of prayer.

This is my take on this beautiful song.

Whoooaaaa... Okay, NO ONE needs to do drugs to understand this song. "Seville" is one of the cities in Spain where several wars took place, including the Spanish civil war in 1936 which I'll bet that's what this song references. "Fetal" is just a word to describe just how incredibly young "beautiful Sheena" was. In NO WAY does "fetal" mean "pregnant." People tend to over-complicate songs... Pinback lyrics can be SO SIMPLE.

Lyrics are "weird" or dont make sense, because your not hearing them as their meant to be heard. Take some mushrooms, some lsd, some peyote, and youll SEE exactly what they were trying to tell YOU personally. Music comes from the otherside, not the artist themselves.
