@DunklinDonuts I agree entirely. I'm a big fan and I've seen Rob many times. This song is one of my favs but I've always felt like it got too predictable. Viva the first 60 seconds.
can somebody "like" a comment at least 3 times so we can get this bitter bastard off the top comments?! This is my favorite Pinback song, and I refuse to let any one defame it with that kind of filth.
i love how the lyrics that pinback comes up with can be so deep, but sometimes, if unexplained, it confuses the shit out of me. they've admitted to throwing ambiguously irrelevant lyrics into some songs just because they fit. it doesnt bother me though. i think i get more of a message from the mood of the song than anything.
@j0bzz I think it creates a mystery around their lyrics. It allows them to be free spirited, or fulfilling depending on who you are. It allows a broad audience to appreciate their music. Whether they throw in online gaming references like AFK (A Free Kill) or Penelope actually samples a bit from Sesame Steet (the beginning clap)... Pinback plays with their music and enjoys making it. It is up to you to decide how to perceive it... light hearted or profoundly deep?
@cbrudder84 afk is away from keyboard but translates into about the same thing anyway lol. and i didnt know that about Sesame St. thats cool. It just depends on the song, whether it seems profound or jaunty.
there are so many ignorant people concerning music if you dont like it dont listen stick to your mainstream bullshit that you hear everyday on the radio i dont listen to the top 40 and never have keep up the good work pinback
I don't know what this has to do with Seville - Seville, Ohio, maybe - but doesn't matter, it's just great. The calm in his voice makes things make sense.
i am so SICK OF HEARING PEOPLE SAY music is bad these days and talk about justin bieber for gods sake just leave him alone and also ill like to see you write a song do you know how hard it is?
@narcissasexy The problem is he doesn't write his songs. Somebody else called a lyricist makes the terrible filth that he then sings....I mean squeaks. That's not music, it's basically shit, but in sound form.
@TheN2D I find it hard to belive that lyrics as original as this were created by a lyricist. If I'm worng than the maker of the lyrics makes it hard to tell that they're not Pinbacks Lyrics
yea no drugs needed here (although theyre always fun to take lol)...very simple yet poetic lyrics about the tragedy of this young girl being taken away too soon by presumably her elders or by sickness perhaps
This song is about Seville, which is a city in spain. It was a port town, but it sits inland a ways. It was no longer used as a port after the water way by it was filled wit silt. People were attracted to the city due to it being a trade route with Spain and America. The good from America brought lots of people there.
There was a time in the mid 1600's when a plague decemated seville and ended up killing about half of the population. A few years after the plague hit revolts broke out and bread became scarce and really expensive.
This song in particular is about a little girl whos parents probably died from the plague and she is left and will soon die also. Seville was also really into religoins and I would guess Sheena Bella is some sort of prayer.
we dont need drugs to find a meaning in music, life and pretty much anything else, you just need to want to understand how it affects you and not be forced into a realization by altering your state of mind
Whoooaaaa... Okay, NO ONE needs to do drugs to understand this song. "Seville" is one of the cities in Spain where several wars took place, including the Spanish civil war in 1936 which I'll bet that's what this song references. "Fetal" is just a word to describe just how incredibly young "beautiful Sheena" was. In NO WAY does "fetal" mean "pregnant." People tend to over-complicate songs... Pinback lyrics can be SO SIMPLE.
Lyrics are "weird" or dont make sense, because your not hearing them as their meant to be heard. Take some mushrooms, some lsd, some peyote, and youll SEE exactly what they were trying to tell YOU personally. Music comes from the otherside, not the artist themselves. The bands are just "tools" for the messages to be delivered. You just have to open your third eye to see the real messages.
Did you ever see the part on "half-baked" with the Jeneane Garafalo character? You know, the one who didn't think she was creative unless she was high? Yeah... There's a reason those people are made fun of.
their lyrics are very weird. they say "Oh, fetal Sheena counts off her last days." but then later they say "She was only 4 years old. She was barly 4 years old." which doesnt make sence. how can she be pregnant and 4 years old? its just one of those disturbing parts of pinback songs(: but i love pinback with all of myyyy heart.
Actually, I removed my last comment. I think they mean shes fetal; shes just a child. Not pregnant. Its a way of saying shes so young an innocent like a fetus. COULD be "fatal", but not sure.
I think they meant she was aware she was going to die in a couple of days . And as it was already said i also do think she is a child :( that's why it makes this song so sad and makes you wonder : life is so short and we miss the most beautiful parts of it.
Missed the word "they're" in the lyrics, right before "gonna kill us all." :P It's about a war in Seville, Spain, and Sheela is mourning for the lives of the people that are all going to die, as far as I can tell. I'm guessing it's referring to the Spanish Civil War.
Reply to bigrussthefuss: (my reply button usually don't work, even though I've clicked it..?) ...
I think it's about a disease that this young girl, Sheena Bella, have. That's why she knows about death, because her disease maybe can't be cured..? I mean "she counts the last her days".. ? oO
Indie is just short for independent/non-mainstream, hence indie-rock, indie hip hop etc..... But Pinback is not rock, its not folkish.......I'm just trying to classify them accurately.
