I'll let you know when America was ever a "breeding ground for 'punk'" in the late 70s. There were a few good things, but for the most part, Britain OWNED the New Wave. The Ramones were good up until they released their capitalist, sellout 3rd LP, but even then the likes of The Damned took the formula to entirely another galaxy. Name one USA band who could even touch anything like TG, or The Fall. I'm not British; I'm American, incidentally.

This is not to say that America had no part in it, but TOPY sounds like a wrong example to me. Or maybe I just misunderstood...
