This would still equate to around 80 dips in a minute even with fully locked elbows which very few people could do. Not many athletes could match his performance so many years on
Brian Jacks is a one of the greatest strength and stamina athletes of all time and an outstanding Olympian and martial artist.
His dips are fine. There will always be two schools of thought.
In the video his arms are fully straight but not locked which is advantageous in terms of maintaining the tension on the muscles and for long term injury prevention as frequently locking joints may cause you problems in later life. It is visible that every rep is fully straight before locking. I'm a fan!
Back in 1968 and 1969, I was having a drink with Brian Jacks. I noticed that he was smoking a cigarette. We all smoked at that time. Looking for inspirational guidance, I asked him how long before an international competition he would give up smoking. To my surprise, he replied: "well, about two minutes!!" Great man. Great athlete.Used to throw me around like a rag doll.
This is from the Superstars DVD, released about 10 years ago. Well worth getting if you loved this show. You can get it from Amazon for around a tenner.
Brian Jacks used to do a bit of training where my Brother learnt Judo, he was amazingly fit. He used to warm up with god knows how many press ups and barely be out of breath.

If Jacks had been a footballer he'd have been the white maradonna. He was a complete and natural athlete with power, agility and a massive heart.
