That said, our government is mostly run by plutocrats through campaign contributions and buying out media. If you really want to support democracy, ask your congressperson to enact legislation to eliminate private campaign contributions, keep strict rules on lobbying, and fund independent media like PBS and NPR.
All this debate about Greens vs. Democrats is silly. We don't have a preferential voting system designed to elect a diversity of views to power; we have a winner-takes-all, rush-to-the-middle system. U.S. elections are designed for small, incremental steps along a single axis, not for fast-paced change or complex views.
If you really like the green party, then vote democrat and ask your congressperson to support preferential voting reform. Politicians will listen if enough people pester them.
The ultimate rationalist! Why don't people pay more attention to him. He presents his argument in a way that invites critique, unlike most "pundits" on tv. He thinks about every word, nothing from him is cheaply said. Why isn't he one of our national populist heroes. He is to me.
The myth that Obama brings real change, Oprah crying and so on, must be busted. It is very dangerous to hang on to optimistic delusions about the President and while Obama cannot be compared to former President Cheney, at least the bs was right out front.
I love Chomsky, but I can think of at least one issue I disagree with him on. Even though he is a strong critic of Democratic policy, he often advises that people vote Democrat instead of Nader. I think it is exactly that kind of apathy/ hopelessness that ensures the Democratic-Republican dominance. The same thing happened in '92 with Ross Perot who opposed NAFTA, which Chomsky so bitterly hates.
Chomsky does not oppose Nader; in fact, I'm willing to bet he voted for him. Chomsky suggests that in states which are up 4 grabs, that people should vote for Gore/Kerry/Obama because there's enough of a difference between them & Bush/McSame.
Seems to me like something closely related to "Stockholm's syndrome" , where the victim identifies with their abuser , showing incomprehensible loyalty and understanding.

Yes, I think I probably agree with that. But they both trace our current economic problems back to 1971 and the end of Bretton Woods, so there is clearly some overlap in the economic views.
It would be wonderful to have such a debate in Texas or better yet Newt Gingrich country... I don't know if those who love Ron Paul would understand Noam Chomsky.

when has he opposed Nader? He always claims elections in the US are a farce.

I was thinking about that today and yesterday.

i would love to see Ron Paul and Noam Chomsky have a discussion.
spartan2600 3 years ago 2
They would agree, by and large. What Chomsky is talking about isn't really "capitalism", it's "mercantilism" - and Chomsky acknowledges that often.
AntonBatey 3 years ago
no they would't

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Any disagreement they would have, Paul would be correct probably.
Chomsky is 100% correct on foreign policy, but is wrong on economics.
AntonBatey 3 years ago
except Chomsky applies the same analysis to both

Why would you say that?
AntonBatey 2 years ago
i lied. its just the kind of stuff people come out with . gibberish
i dont have a degree in Economics
neither is Economics hard to understand, so stop contradicting people.
this isnt theoretical physics ( its Economics )
try to be less patronizing--people dont like being contradicted.

um, ok
